Incubus has been around far longer than Linkin Park. 'Pardon Me' was off of their third album, 'Make Yourself'. It was released in 1999. Their first two albums , 'Fungus Amongus' (1995) & 'S.C.I.E.N.C.E.' (1997) were considered funk-metal. If you get a chance to check out another one of their songs, I would suggest 'A Certain Shade of Green' (the first single off their second album, 'S.C.I.E.N.C.E.')
I saw them both co-headline a concert back in like 2007 at Jones Beach Amphitheatre in NY. Not gonna lie, as good as Incubus was, LP was better. When it got dark, it started raining and if you look up the theater, it's outdoors right on the Atlantic Ocean and there was lightening hitting the water behind the show. It was far enough away that they just kept playing and doing all of their pyrotechnics and lights...absolutely crazy atmosphere. Everyone was soaking wet, and NOBODY cared.
@willvr4 When I bought LP's " Live in Texas" DVD back in the day, I remember thinking that it was one of the best quality sounding live performances that I had ever seen/heard. The alternate version of 'A Place for My Head' that they played during that set, is probably the best LP has ever sounded. Regrettably.. one of the few bands I never got to see live. The concert you described sounds pretty sweet. If it's on RUclips, I'll be sure & check it out.
@@Lateralus46and2 Yeah, I have that as well. They sound just as good as they do in studio, which is rare. Not just Chester's voice, but the audio engineering is perfect. That's one of those things that gets overlooked, but it can make or break a concert.
Fun Fact: Incubus performed this song rather memorably on a 2001 episode of the sketch comedy show Mad TV. Each member wore mullet wigs; drummer Jose Pasillas put pillows in his shirt to make him look fat, Brandon Boyd pulled off part of his pants, and Chris Kilmore had a really long goatee.
Incubus predated Chester, Korn etc by quiet a few years. Possible a full decade. “PARDON ME” was their first huge single off of their wildly popular 3RD album entitled “Make Yourself”. From which came the release of probably their biggest song ever - DRIVE.
Once again Hollywood not even close, they were out before Korn out before Slipknots first album they were way before Linkin Park. This was their third album and it was dropped in 1999
My second-favorite band of all-time!!!!!!!! A big hit, but not as big as their other hits including Warning, Talk Shows on Mute, Adolescents, Stellar, Wish You Were Here, Love Hurts, Anna Molly, Megalomaniac or Drive. Brandon Boyd is just incredibly gorgeous!!!! And his vocals don't get nearly enough credit when in comparison to other vocalists at that time.
The old guy is Brandon Boyd's father, known by fans as The Mustached Mystic, whose face adorns all the early albums. You could buy a sticker of his face.

An incubus is the male version of a succubus. I also have 2 song recommendations for nu-metal Monday. Filter--Hey Man, Nice Shot Monster Magnet--Space Lord FYI--the Filter song is about an actual event that occurred on live tv regarding Budd Dwyer. I'm not going to say much more than that so I don't get cancelled but you can google it. I have 2 song recommendations for alternative or post grunge. Originally Incubus was a Nü Metal band. Their second album "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." (1997) and their third "Make Yourself" (1999) are both Nü Metal albums. They were part of the Nü Metal scene and they even participated in Korn's Family Values Tour '98. With their fourth album "Morning View" (2001) they started to drift away from Nü Metal.
I'd consider Make Yourself alternative before I'd consider it nu metal. They were pioneers of the genre for sure, but this album marked a huge shift in their sound, which has continued to this day. The biggest shift though was definitely the one between this album & Morning View. I've never listened to an album before or since that could evoke the sort of emotions that record did. It completely transcended space & time & put me on that beach in front of the house where they made the record.
@xx3astmanxx928 I partially agree with you. However, Make Yourself still has a lot of Nü Metal in it. The first two singles "Pardon Me" and "Stellar" are both Nü Metal. This song "Pardon Me" is one of the best Nü Metal songs imo.
This song was my intro to Incubus and I have stuck around since. Love this band. Saw them front row back in the early 2000s. Such a memorable show. Love the Tribe!! ✌️ n ❤
Got to see them for free in Austin in 2018 & I can say, without a doubt, that they're just as good now as they were back then. Absolutely phenomenal show.
I highly recommend their songs “Warning” which came out around this time, and the “Megalomaniac” which came out in the mid-2000’s. Both are great lyrics and so under recognized unfortunately. However, both are BANGERS!! One of my all time favorite groups.
Every girl in my high school who was into rock/metal was in love with Brandon Boyd I get it, he's a handsome mofo with a great voice. Although I think I could knock him over with a sneeze haha. This song was my ringtone for like 2 years back in 2006ish era. Back when people had songs for ringtones for some dumb reason.
Their biggest hit was definitely Drive by far. This was the song that broke through the mainstream mostly. Stellar off this same album as well as Drive bothe eclipsed this song. Drive transcended genres and was on almost every radio station at the time for a very long time.
You can’t really put a comparison with a lot of Incubus, their first two albums were definitely funk metal/nu metal inspired by way of Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers, maybe some Korn but they mostly just did their own thing
Great reaction boys. Love me some Incubus, seen live 2x! They came out around Deftones & Korn era and were quite funk metal/nu metal for a bit until switching to more alternative. This song was in Little Nicky when Adam Sandler falls out the building. They also played Be Quiet & Drive live w/ Sandler acoustic and it’s badass!
Incubus is one of my absolute favorite bands, there are a lot of great songs you can get into with them. Pardon Me was probably the song that put them on the mainstream map but they were around for a while before, and they are still putting stuff out and touring regularly. Would love to see more Incubus reacts by you guys!
Incubus has always been amazing. You could react to the whole Make Yourself album and I think you'd love it. I still haven't seen them live and really want to!
Not a lot of people know it, but Incubus are heavily influenced by Primus. Can definitely tell if you listen to Fungus Amungus or SCIENCE. I used to proper love Incubus man, Havent listened to them properly in years. Stopped listening after the Light Grenades album. Drive was their biggest track i think.
Niiiice!!! This song is a timeless classic, I would say this is their most popular hit. I highly recommend checking out "The Warmth" next if you guys haven't done that song yet, such a banger! Great reaction as usual guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Incubus is just the male equivalent of a Succubus. A demon that tries to have sex with women who are sleeping. It's most likely just sleep paralysis that was misunderstood hundreds of years ago. Still a cool band name, despite it being kinda rapey lol
They came out around the same time in the Southern California music scene and were friends with Linkin Park and all of the other bands because they were playing clubs together coming up
This is one of those songs you can't help but sing along to every time you hear it! Great song! You should check out Ill Nino's Liar, they don't get enough nu-metal love. You're gunna love them!
Incubus was around before Linkin Park and Slipknot. Korn featured them on the Family Values tour along with Limp Bizkit, Powerman 5000, Ramstein. When this video hit MTV, all of their shows became 50/50 female/male. Not complaining at all, just a stating a fact. The lead singer, Brandon Boyd cut off his dreads and became a sex symbol. Incubus has matured musically. I remember them saying that they don’t want to 60 years old playing the same music they did when they were 20.
Incubus were done dirty by being lumped into nu metal...and I love nu metal. They were much more than the genre though. The depth of soul, the emotional intelligence, the fusion of elements like ska and punk in their sound. The unyielding sincerity and earnestness of Brandon Boyd. They are still touring and still rocking but don't get any attention since the radio world used them up and spit them out.
‘Drive’ is probably their biggest hit, ‘Pardon Me’ might be second. They are from California, except for Chris Kilmore (the dj) who is from Pittsburgh (he and I talked about this lol.)
