Refreshing look of the tank bro..whenever I use to watch the video I also thought the same thing mbunas were hiding behind the rock..😄 Glad now all the students can watch them swim freely..

Great vid, gave me some inspiration for a re-scape I’m about to do on my 90 gallon mbuna tank, love the dragon stone👍 Out of interest, do your students get distracted by the tanks during classes? I know I would! 😂
Hi I just looked up mbuna tanks after feeding watching mine in the basement for awhile. My scape is heavily rocked and the fish used to hide whenever anyone would get close to the tank there were a couple braver ones but they were really fraidy cat...fish. I have had it set up for about a year now and about 2 weeks ago I started to notice a change in there behavior before when I came to feed them or went near them they would run and hide and come out and get the food after we moved away from the tank. I guess they finally figured out that people mean food because now they are always out feeding time is an active frenzy and when we aren't feeding they are looking to be begging. I am not sure what triggered the change but the tank although I enjoyed it from a distance before is great fun to watch now from close up. I have yellow labs cobalt blue ones red zebras (which are orange except one which is orange and black mottled) and rusty cichlid the cobalt blues and rusty have bred havnt seen babies of yellow labs or red zebras yet. I too also had some demasonii originally but alas.
Looks good. I keep yellow labs, yellow-tail acei, and maingano in a 75g. My only suggestion is you will probably want to increase your filtration as your mbuna grow bigger. I run two AC-110s and a canister filter on mine.
My personal experience with my all Mbuna tank is, Demasoni have been a challenge for me to keep.. I level out my sand and rearrange my rocks every water change to keep them occupied on the new layout.. It has helped with the aggression.. One thing for sure is, Mbuna love to dig under and swim in and out of the rocks...
Yeah demasoni are definitely tough. I had intended to get more to have a big group and diffuse the aggression, but they picked each other off before I could even do that
Wow that is so cool. I want to get some of those yellow tail acei where did you get them at? Awesome setup. I love you guys channel. I have a 90 gal myself I am loving the African cichlids I have in there.
@@CichlidBros do you find the one in Bolingbrook better? The one in Schaumburg always seems to be either over priced with african cichlids or they’re sick.

I do have a question : im not new to the hobby....however i just recently got back into it...u have had my tank setup for over a month now....keeping up with water changes...not over feeding...water is crystal clear....fish are happy....etc. However....my tank water smells musty kinda like creek water....any reason for this....any suggestions on a fix....??? Thanks in advance
Thank you for watching! I would see if your filters need cleaning. Might want to see if an food or debris is on the lids of the tank as well. And if nitrates are high, that's a common cause
I have a 55 gallon with 10 mbuna 5 yellow labs and 5 powder blues how many should I go for I was thinking 16 is that to many or not . Love your channel keep up the good work 🇬🇧
I've always been a central American cichlids man as well I'm starting a mbuna tank in a 75. Currently have 15 fish stocked. What is a good number to keep in there? 20 gallon sump filter with 400 gph pump.
I had a leak in my older 75 gallon tank. Pain to say the least. I drained it. Took out the sand. Everything. I scraped off the old silicone from the corners and the bottom. Then I resealed it with new silicone. Two days later I filled it to test for leaks. None. I left it filled for a week to make sure. Wala, tank was like new. I put new sand and a new rocks in. Then moved my fish over that I had put in a 40 gallon tank I had. Worked out fine. Mayor Pain in the butt! But it's been fine ever since.
If my tap water is naturally high in PH and with cichlid sand its even higher, Does it matter if i have inter stone like Seiryu or dragon stone? Should i use Texas Holey Rock to maintain the high PH?
Side corner leak. We answer all those Q’s in this video! TWO NEW LARGE AQUARIUMS IN THE SAME DAY! Over 500 Gallons in One Classroom! ruclips.net/video/v-x6g3xR1A0/видео.html
Thank you! I went and watched that. Most of the “instant cycle” videos I have watched have you use used media and stability but still wait a month or so 😫. Glad to see it can be done sooner.
@@kristiwhite5394 I haven't watched the video myself yet, but I think it's worth mentioning the good bacteria that consume nitrite and ammonia won't live forever without food. Worth cycled media you must give them some form of ammonia. I have successfully started tanks in a day by taking biomedia from other tanks.
I think that sounds about right. Mine is a male and I put a longear sunfish and a red tailed shark with him and they were circling each other fighting and I took the shark and sunfish back out because they were all beat up. The sunfish is about 3 times the size of the flowerhorn and the shark is about twice the size of him. All I have with him now is a catfish and a senegal bichir. And do flowerhorns do good with convict cichlids, I've seen it done before and the flowerhorn didn't mess with the convicts at all.
I've just got into the hobby back in August and I have African cichlids and Some South American cichlids and I do notice a difference in their personalities.. Unless it's just me but the American cichlids are way more timid and very quick run and hide at the slightest movement or attention that they get..And they're not as fun/active in the tank like My African cichlids... They're waiting for me at the edge of the tank greeting me as soon as I get home from work or wake up in the morning.. They interact with me way more and have way more activity in the tank.. I probably won't be getting anymore American cichlids in the future, They seem to be more laid back and lazy..But maybe it's just me
Is there really anyway to keep Mbuna in a 75 without overstocking the tank to the point where it is exhausting to view the tank? I mean they are some of the most beautiful fish in the hobby. But isn't the continuous agitation, constant overt and micro aggression and the continual darting behavior an indication that these fish are not being maintained ethically? I find it hard to believe that these fish are continually darting around in the wild, always trying to escape predation and territorial aggression. I am sure I will get hate in response to this, but sometimes you have to call it like you see it.
