- A recent detecting trip with my mates Anton and Colin scores us some extremely good gold including a massive 2.5 ounce nugget.
This is an extremely rare piece of gold for modern day prospecting within Tasmania. I hope you guys enjoy this video and thanks Colin for keeping the dream alive.

Absolutely sickening... I'm in Central Western NSW, Ive been detecting for about 18 years and found many ounces ...quite a few over the half ounce mark. I'm out 2 or 3 times a week but never broken the ounce mark...bloody well done !!!

That nugget is absolutely mental! Love the texture, I have one just the same sort of wafer type texture, nowhere near as layered as that one though, mine came from mid western Australia

Was wondering if you were gonna do a little vid on that nug buddy, he's done for now though jinxed himself with beginners luck, won't get anything for ages now hehehe. I do like some reefy looking gold but there's something about the really water worn stuff that just looks awesome.

bloody brilliant find you can also tell he is over the moon. I am getting into it myself just don't really know any locations to pan or even detect for some.
james your best bet is to get on mineral resources website for the state you live in and check the map for where the old timers found gold that’s how I’ve found a lot of the gold I’ve gotten 👍🏼

@tassie boys prospecting rare find. to me that looks like many placer pieces that cold fused together under boulders. so likely ancient glacial waterfall pockets, moved later by overburden landslide.. so i would follow whatever geological glacial valley direction you can find, up and down from the location alone those trends.

Yeah....I prefer to pan flour gold. You know, 10,000 to the ounce. Fits in the snuffer bottle better.

I claim to be a Prospector because years ago,I bought 2 rolls of pennies at the bank, to look for precious dates. The first roll contained an Indian Head in good condition. About 1953 when found.

They have no preconceived ideas or thoughts on where gold is "most" likely to be, & as we know....gold is where you find it. No rhyme nor reason as to just where a piece might be these days with all the land movement, faulting & folding & land upheaval/subsidence, glaciation etc over the years.
I always comment to myself how much the Tassie landscape ,bush & creeks/rivers are identical to across the ditch here in NZ. It could so easily be in the West Coast bush of the South Island or up in the Coromandel. Love your stuff. Thanks for the effort in doing & putting the footage up. Take care, stay safe. My understanding is that type of "popcorn" or "honeycomb" gold is worth more to a standard nugget, due to its make up?
