- None of this is mine! Enjoy :)
She lives with an orange tree
The girl that does yoga
She picks the dead ones from the ground
When we come over
And she gives
I get
Without getting anything to me
Like a morning sun
Like a morning
Like a morning sun
Good good morning sun
The girl that does yoga
He lives in a little house
On the side of a little hill
Picks the litter from the ground
Litter little brother spills
He gives
I get
Without giving anything to me
And the dogs they run
And the dogs they
And the dogs they run
In the good good morning sun
Side of a little hill
The litter little brother spills
The side of a little hill
Oh and she's always dressed in white
She's like an angel and she burns my eyes
Oh and she turns she pulls a smile
We drive her round and she drives us wild
Oh and she moves like a little girl
I become a child and she moves my world
And she gets splashed in pain and turns away and leaves me standing
She lives with an orange tree
The girl that does yoga
Got a wolf to keep her warm
When he comes over
She gives
He gets
Without giving anything to see
And the day ends
And the day it
And the day ends
And there's no need for me

When you wake up in the morning and for some reason this song is the first thing you think of.
Wow. Just... wow. The bridge at 2:00 is just... just gorgeous. The entire song is superb but damn that bridge took my breath away.
it's breath-taking
Damien Rice, you are an angel.
Everytime i listen to damien i am like "wow, hard to top that song" ... then i look to the right, see a song with a name i don't know yet, click on it and discover the awesomeness just once again (:
Probably my favourite song ever so many memories
So simple .. yet so captivatingly beautiful
i come here everyday too.
Just a little thought, I read a reply to one of Lisa Hannigans songs, 'Little Bird' about the possibility of it being about Damien. In it she mentions 'a house by the side of a hill', Damien mentions, in this song about a guy who 'lives in a house in the side of a little hill'. Also, he mentions about this lady being dressed in white, resembling an angel and being 'splashed in paint', anyone seen Lisa's video for 'Knots', she's dressed in white, angelic looking and being splashed in paint! ;D
This is cool, thanks for this, 8 years on :)
The song goes so many different places it's a little gem
He is a genius! Damien Genius Rice
This song was stucked in my head today morning.. dunno how I remembered it.
People watching poetry, finest teenager est . Great song
beautiful lyrics about doomed love ..like so many tunes i guess if love was always good and life long we would all go insane with boredom..
Disagree, ...think about guy's visiting thier mates an its the girl that lives over there... Never meeting.. just admiring.. " she gives I get without giving anything to me" Realy beautiful lyrics.
Doomed love or unrequited love both lend themselves to great art like this song.
they should add another definition of dogs in the dictionary: a song so amazing that you can't describe it.
Superb song.. stating that Love and Want are two different things :).. Want is violent Love is not
this song gives me so much hope
I come here when I feel alone
Me too
The bridge of this song led me to the gardens of Babylon...
Before this album came out, I thought his next album couldnt be as good as O. I guess he proved me wrong.
People are asking the meaning of this song. I think it is open to interpretation. I am a yoga girl. I wear white a lot. My friend goes through the dump for jewels. We have a sweet relationship without really giving or getting much. It just happens effortlessly..I believe most music is wonderful because WE get to hear the words and apply them to our lives. Basically music is a healer. Love this song. Makes me feel like the world is ok.
Mary Sather I'm pretty sure that this is his dog singing about feelings for girl's dog and how he sees things through dogs eyes and feel everything with good dog's heart
This song is morning itself sometimes
I came across this song on a Obadiah Parker albulm was just so moved .. it's a beautiful song which I think is made even more beautiful by Obadiah Parker ....their rendition is amazing
Ohhhhhh and she's always dressed in white, she's like an angel and she burns my eyes...
Oh and she turns, she pulls a smile, we drive around and she drives us wild.. Ohh and she moves like a little girl, I become a child and she moves my world..
And she gets splashed in paint and turns away and leaves me astounded

@infinitecanvas11 I think it's about a girl who he really likes but who loves someone else and he's excluded from them. I think the title refers to the two lovers being faithful to each other like dogs are faithful to their owners.
That bridge...

Dude .. Exactly !
baprejmer high five to you two lads.
Damien rice is beautiful
this was always so weird.I'm a huge Damien Rice fan and when i was studing,i lived in house with orange tree benath my balcony and i was doing yoga for a while.so when i've heard this song it was funny.but when i consider the emotional part of the song,i can relate with Damien.I'm the one who always chase somebody.:(
Beautiful.
Love
This is a great song
I think of dogs, and i think of the most common position in yoga. something about the upper ward dog or somethin? ..the girl who does yoga..iunno. i like how all damien rice songs are so aloof & mean something different to everyone :)
My interpretation of this beautiful song:
The first verse of the song is about the girl that the protagonist of the song love. The word "we" refers to the protagonist and his older brother. "She gives I get without giving anything to me, like a morning sun": just the way she is, the way she lives gives the protagonist joy and warmth without really giving him anything.
The second verse is about his older brother. The verse just describes the protagonist life with his brother. The same "He gives I get without giving anything to me" like the first verse. "And the dogs they run". The dog here may refer to the protagonist but I don't understand the meaning of the usage of plural "dogs" here.
The bridge is about the time all 3 of them spent together. And she turned down the protagonist love.
The third verse is about the love of the girl and the protagonist's brother. "Got a wolf to keep her warm": this is why I think the dog is the 2nd verse is the protagonist, now this verse has the "wolf" to refer to the protagonist's brother. "She gives he gets without giving anything to see": they are in love but don't show it when the protagonist is around, or at least they think so. "And they day it ends, and there's no need for me": now the lovers has each other and the protagonist will just be the third wheel when he's around.
Just my interpretation though.
damien loves a girl. she loves another guy. damien is turned down put in the friendzone (And turns away, and leaves me standing ). in the end, the girl and the guy got together and damien is forgotten (Got a wolf to keep her warm When he comes over) and (And the day it ends And there's no need for me)
This is it, nailed it
Has anyone ever noticed a similarly with The Grateful Dead? 'Friend of the Devil'?
bonsai tree. solid.
ooooooohhh okay. :)
...ah rádio Oi...!
Ok, now we know your youtube account, Damien..:)
He sings about one dog he loved so much
It happens the same to me...
I like to think it's written from the perspective of the dog whose owner loves the girl that does yoga. They visit the girl and she would often give him (the dog) her affection. Their relationship gets exclusive and there's no need for the dog =P
nope
this is an el treato
is it 'splashed in pain' or 'splashed in rain'?
@CroppyBoy1798 i think it's splashed in pain? :)
i'd sure like to meet this yoga girl... :)
Actually he is singing about dogs...not humans. :)
I understand that too!
no hes not lmao
You can mean more than one thing with one statement. You can even say more than one thing at once by expessing phonemes that fall between multiple words creating sounds that sound like multiple words - where the listeners auditory prejudice selects the meaning the listener takes. Put the 2 ideas together and you can start to express the human condition in a condensed 3.5 minute song.
What does this song mean? That question implies it has one meaning...a sad limitation to project onto art and onto yourself(seeking the safe confines of others interpretations).
shame on u for moniterising copyrighted content.
it's about the generosity that exudes from your being when you pursume e something that you love....like the girl who gives without knowing, like the morning sun...if we do what we love it's not only ourselves that benefit but a lot of people would be inspired. that's how i feel about this song for the longest time now.
