When I was young, I loved old school punk rock and old metal/trash. My dad always struggled to relate to me and it was a struggle for a long time to even have a relationship with him. The turning point came when I was 16 years old, dad took me to the Jewish Mother in VA Beach to see Todd Snider. We watched the show, he knew the owner really well so he pulled a string and got Todd to come have a meal and a few beers with us after the show. He told Todd I was an aspiring musician and Todd immediately loved the idea, asked me if I wanted to jam with him after the venue cleared out. I begrudgingly accepted knowing this old hippie was not at all going to like the kind of music I played. Todd and I played together for about a half hour, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Dude really dug what I was putting down and it opened my mind to music I wasn’t really into. He recorded an album that night, at that show. He sent me a free copy in the mail a few months later. At the end of the night, he shook my hand and told me I had a bright future and he believed in me. After all was said and done, dad and I were riding home together and he broke the news to me that his father, the grandfather I spend most of my childhood traveling the country with, who taught me how to build a log cabin in the Montana wilderness with just tools and hands; was terminally ill and didn’t have much time left. It absolutely broke my heart, and really opened my eyes as to how little time we really have on this planet. Now I have that album, and any time I listen to Snider, I think about that night, those men, and all the time we shared together. I became a man that night and didn’t even realize it until much later in life. Thanks for everything Todd, no matter how old I get; I’ll always buy tickets to your show and I’ll bring anyone willing to come. You never know how life will go and it’s best to spend it with people who genuinely make it a good time.
I just heard of Todd today. I went to a lakeside beach here in central PA, and there was this fellow that goes by the name of “Redwood” playing his guitar, and singing this song.
I saw him about 5 years ago. He was pretty funny. This guy in the audience was screaming at him to play Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues to close. He scolded the guy for being rude then said he was going to play Freebird instead.
Just found out about his music this weekend, can't stop playing Can't Complain and Sunshine over and over. How did i not find this sooner! Great music.
i love you todd. seen ya at the castle theater in bloomington il and you were awesome and when i saw awesome i mean you moved the whole bunch a folks. hope your trails are clear and full of generouss people. hope to see you again soon -peace brother!
discovered him Freshman in HS. Songs for the Daily Planet. Missed out since. Enjoying the shit out of getting caught up. Talent like this is understood by the few. ..and I like it that way.
Welp. Took about 35 years, but this song just replaced U-2's song " Still haven't found what I'm looking for", as MY song. Thanks bro. ( And I hate people who say bro)
@afterglow2020 ... is cribbing another word for stealing? i'm sure he gives much credit and respect to prine... but you can't fault an artist for having similar style to another artist who came first... todd has a lot to say too... and i'm sure john prine likes todd as well
first todd song i ever in a cab in colorado i said turn it up who is that? now about three hundred songs later i just look forward to the next 300 with hope i got that in a colorado taxi over 10 years ago a little out of place a little out of tune play one more....
why does everyone say he's like John prine? he doesn't sound like him, Todd Snider songs are way more laid back with a more humor in them.. don't get wrong I love prine and Snider but not seeing the resemblance
Todd has a talent for songwriting he learned from the best of the best songwriters. Many of his songs can be traced back to other songs by the artists he admires with great respect. He has no reservations in admitting that and you will hear him say it himself on live recordings. in my opinion, the recognizable familiarity contained within his music is part of what makes his songs so instantly held dear to the hearts of such a large audience. So heres to Todd and Townes Van Zant, Robert Earl Keen, Joe Ely, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Bob Dylan, Steve Earl, Carl Hayes, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, John Haitt, Leon Russell, Lyle Lovett, Neil Diamond, Michael Nesmith (and also include all the others not mentioned here) who write songs we love so much.

this song keeps me going at work
I wish I could double triple thumbs up. Best ever for work.
They say his wisecracks between songs is worth the price of admission alone.
I saw him about 5 years ago. He was pretty funny. This guy in the audience was screaming at him to play Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues to close. He scolded the guy for being rude then said he was going to play Freebird instead.
I have seen him twice live although it has been years, he is phenomenal, great at reading the audience and making sure everyone has a good time.
The Good Fight.
Thanks.
He's a legend live. Buy a ticket to see this man. Don't pretend you've got anything better to do on a Wednesday night.

Looks like 23 people do nothing but complain. He has a verse in there for them... probably hit too close to home.

@afterglow2020 ... is cribbing another word for stealing? i'm sure he gives much credit and respect to prine... but you can't fault an artist for having similar style to another artist who came first... todd has a lot to say too... and i'm sure john prine likes todd as well
58 people are full of crap!
1 person has no idea what musical genius is!
Republicans. That's what scares people these days. That and, uh, democrats.
This comment highlights the year 2022....God damn it brandon
If it wasn't for John Prine, and google play my girl and I would have not heard of you.
See him in concert before he's dead. We're fortunate to live in such a time
I'd love to take a trip and not leave the farm with Todd
@jodiehays 0 dislikes. looks like err body agrees
How is he not finger picking?
Chris Yeomans glad I'm not the only one wondering this. Heard this on the radio and assumed it was finger picked
Not sher if it got handed to him, but somehow this dude ended up with John Prine's torch.
Gosh, I didn't mean to duplicate ... I really wasn't laughing that much :)
first todd song i ever
in a cab in colorado
i said turn it up

a little out of place
a little out of tune

hate his politics but he is a talent..it happens.
why does everyone say he's like John prine? he doesn't sound like him, Todd Snider songs are way more laid back with a more humor in them.. don't get wrong I love prine and Snider but not seeing the resemblance
Might be time to look at your politics brother
He can't carry a tune, but I like it.
This guy is cribbing straight from John Prine

Leftist? More like realist...
@bennoyes05 One dislike. Find us a tree, I've got the rope.
@DenneyR Pretty cool comment, but good Lord man, become less tone deaf.
You. Dont. Get. It.
@johnsstime let's locate him and send him hate mail
love the way he sings...just wish his mind wasn't in the leftist gutter.he may still grow up some day.
Jim gravell Todd can stay firmly in the left lane!!!
@@rodneygilbertson2231 this song is in no way political, at least not as I can see.
