Love the RX8 content! Bought 2010 S2 RX8 for $6,500. Immediately (within 3 days) put in new coils, spark plugs, spark plug wires, new battery, new oil change with 10W-40, put BG-44K tank, changed trans fluid, changed diff fluid, air filter, cabin air filter, replaced LIM vacuum lines, flushed radiator, cleaned MAF, cleaned SSV, cleaned Wet Air Jet, cleaned Barometric sensor, cleaned ESS, cleaned all connectors with electrical cleaner, cleaned power steering cables under airbag tray, changed brake pads, greased steering joints, reset ECU and PCM, and ran good ole Sunoco Premium through it (daily) and it was good to go. Since then the Cat melted so melted it with Racing Beat Midpipe, di 3 Marvels Mystery Oil treatments to clean carbon in rotor housings and apex seal springs, replaced 75% of all the electrical relays and fuses, replaced the tires, installed new motor mounts, and detailed the car inch to inch 🙂
@@exoedge6322 much more than most people would admit to spending on an RX-8. But it's a hobby, and I salute Unix1913 for going through all that effort. By the sounds of it, he's got a really nice car now.
Excellent info. Great description and contrast between mechanic specials and turn key. I am in the market for a rx-8 myself. Living in ground zero of the rust belt area, I have been looking south for that diamond in the rough for under 10k. My passion started with my first rotary purchase back in 2004, with my 81 rx-7 GS. Got mine for 1000 180k miles - fresh rebuild with fresh housings and seals- just a few cosmetic issues and a few sensors needing replaced. Not bad. I love the car
Hi there. I'm doing a lot of research at the moment, in the process of looking for a good RX8. I came across one of your videos, and have now watched a number of them. Congratulations on some really good and informative videos, all very clearly explained! You obviously know your stuff, and are very good at communicating it. I'm located in the UK, and it's interesting that RX8s are quite a bit cheaper here than in the US. I'm looking at 2 R3s, both series 2, one 2009 with 52,000 m at £7500 ($8900), and the other, 2010, one owner with 26,000 m at £12950 ($15400). Both look in excellent condition, with no mention of any engine work having been done. I'm thinking the cheaper one might be a better bet on the basis it has been driven more. I look forward to watching more of your clips. :) :)
That paint is original colour, same colour as my now no longer daily RX8 as I detonated the clutch doing 1 of them there burnouts. 1st gear perfect, second gear rear suspension hop, change to 3rd, clutch remains on floor.....oops so now for the rebuild. I am going to be taking in a lot of your library on how to take apart and put back together, but I want to chase a 350hp output, how I'm going to go about that is still up in the air. Love your stuff keep it up.
So, i got my driving license in 2021( I was 18 yo). After 2 months a found one with 105 000 km for 1700 euros with no obvious problems. After about 7 000 km I wanted to test its limit and I blew the engine😅. I found a used engine with 50 000 km for 1500 euros and I bought it, a couple weeks later I needed a new clutch so I bought a racing clutch for 750 euros. After 3950 euros in total for my rx8(2004), it runs perfectly and it has 117 000 km. I just wanted to share my experience. I love it
These videos are a massive help. Currently looking at an '05 that a buddy of mine has for 6500. He claims the engine was rebuilt semi-recently and it's only got 88k miles.
Just sold my series 2 rx8 with 113k miles for $6500 unfortunately it was an automatic but I did spice up the sale by offering a full series 2 manual swap to go with it. Trans/4.7 Fd rear and manual ECU, key fob, and matching abs unit to go with it. I feel like I hooked them up. Needless to say I paid $1000 for it originally and it didn't run so I still made plenty :)
Nice video. I have been stalking marketplace for about a year. Seems anything decent in the 4-5k range is sold immediately. Over 6k and it really has to be a clean body and healthy motor. That 9k black is on my saved list just to see when/how much it goes for it’s a great specimen of smart mods.
Been loving your videos, you really know alot and learned alot from you. I had an rx8 10 years ago on a 04 that was in the 5s on compression. No issues and was told to save for a build. Unfortunately I killed it before the engine had time to give me trouble by crashing it into a lamp post 🤣. Recently bought another, a pz edition in pretty good condition. Enthusiast owned and all the common issues have been sorted. I plan on storing it and see if it goes up in value. It's low miles and the pz edition that only 420 were made in brilliant black. Its on the original engine and after a build in 10 years it will be quite desirable.
Great info ! The 2008 dark blue you mentioned you have the question about is the stormy blue, the same colour as mine. it was a Mazda colour here in Australia, & it does have a beautiful sparkle in the sunlight, but at night it almost appears as black …. Keep up the great channel .
Is it Black Mica? Just got mine and Black at Night or with Cloud Cover but Sunlight? Looks like someone dumped a can of Gold Dust into a Can of Brilliant Black.... I have the Window Sticker that came with the Car and no uncharge on this paint BUT it is NOT the Brilliant Black I have seen in a Gen 1.
Got mine for 1500 from a friend that botched his rebuild(he let me do payments) so I just threw in another engine 20k miles daily/track and its been handling the abuse like a champ not the best cosmetically, but great dont feel bad if something happened to it.
I'm with you on the autos but since I already have a 2009 and the NA and NC Miatas as manuals I sometimes think about rescuing an auto for giggles. There's a white S1 parked on the street in a neighborhood behind my Church. I saw some folks trying to jump start it 3-4 months ago and it's been sitting in the same spot ever since. But when I drive by it I see the shift paddles so I know it's auto.
In my LS swapped RX8, all it took was two wires and everything works in the car. Gauges, electric power steering, even cruise control. You just have to wire up the CAN BUS!
It's ironic that you chose the "Shinka" mazda RX-8 as your pick on "Marketplace FB!" It so happens I own a 2005 Shinka with parchment colored upholstery. It has 146,000 miles, had been running excellent, but lately feel as though the synthetic oil Castrol has gummed up my oil supply lines and SSV intake components. Man this is so good! I'm sitting on a caged and stitch welded FD and thinking about how to go about actually building it. I've spent months studying the Audi 5 cyl. platform (picked up a cheap 93' S4), Honda K-swaps, Fiat Twin cams, RB's, and the funny thing is I'm right back to the rotary and specifically the RX-8 Why? Well cheap of course but also the weight to power of the 13B/options for the better oil pump, fbw, and a shell that I can thrash on instead of the FD- rally, drift, track. So stock FD five speed, FD block, RX-8 front cover using a modified 12A counterweight balanced with the rotating assembly. The key is tricking the factory RX-8 ECU to run on the FD block. My question to you is I've heard that 06' and above manuals have 6 injectors and 04' and above autos have 6 injectors. With that in mind could I still use the 6 injector auto front cover and accessories with the FD block or does it need to be the 6 injector manual? I apologize for the long post
I believe the only difference between the 6 port automatic and the 6 port manual engine blocks will be the rear iron and it's provisions for the starter. But I could very well be wrong and there may be more differences
@@RADPotential Thanks for the reply RAD potential! I actually edited my post I meant the RX-8 front cover using a modified 12A counterweight. Good to hear about the 6 ports both auto/manual having no difference on the front cover. Once again I think adapting the fbw, electric power steering pump, better oil pump of the Renesis to a 3rd gen. block makes a lot of sense for a budget builds- any thoughts?
Thanks for the video!! This is the video I didn’t know I needed, but I definitely needed! Same color, one owner cars, GT trim. I am leaning towards the second gen, but I am not sure it is worth it if the engine is failing already, but the first gen that hasn’t been used can have the fatigue issues you mentioned. Any advice?

Or is it due to very poor maintenance? If that’s the case, is there a good way to tell how well the car has been treated aside from maintenance records? I’d appreciate some feedback.
