I feel like the term "AI" is being thrown around a bit too generously nowadays. This is pretty much just a shuffle feature with a few parameter constraints (sticking to genre labels and making sure the scales match).

“making sure the scales match” that’s where the AI is :) The tech is real and it doesn’t look at Key or anything like that, only at the audio itself and scans millions of sounds in milliseconds. And if you play with it, you’ll realize it matches sounds that develop coherently in time with each other. key matching can’t do that. We would not be using the term “AI” if it wasn’t the real thing. Sincerely, one of the inventors of the tech behind!

@@alejandrokoretzky146 Hey, good to hear it's not just another use of AI as a buzzword. So does "develop coherently in time with each other" mean melodically and/or rhythmically? So that it picks sounds that could have actually been played together?

@@danatello8489 correct, it finds sounds that fit best together harmonically and rhythmically at the same time. if you play with it enough, many times it finds sounds from the same original arrangement (like a string orchestra) without knowing they were part of the same ensemble

Surprisingly, I could see it also being a fun toy to help break writers block; and inspire sample users to mix in their own work through DAWs like Ableton.
It's a good concept to encourage a simple point of entry to the hobby. We all fell prey to gatekeeping at least once getting into music production. More points of entry means more new blood.
I see people being absolutely juvenile about it on all the Splice AI ads, and honestly, their music probably sucks, if they're worried about others. 😅

I think AI/or sublimated algorithms can be detrimental to music in general. At first it looks like a new toy in his toolbox, but then he is either disgusted or possessed, depending on one's understanding of music. These algorithms don't create music from scratch, they meaningfully combine existing materials with pre-existing materials and styles. A kind of recycling of used materials.
Less and less talented musicians appear and are promoted as "stars", indirectly imposing what is "good music" on people. The audience is conditioned. They manage the understanding of music by increasing the listening numbers with the reserved places in the playlists of their artists and similar tools available to them, and then they call it modern music.
In the old days, if you couldn't carry a tune or play a melody with instruments and couldn't distinguish one chord from another, you'd end up as a listener, not a musician. Now with these new toys, listeners can feel or simulate something like creating music, sort of. As long as it stays in the personal space, that's not a bad thing.
As an analogy, consider an imaginary person (let's call him Joe) with an AI speech box hanging around his neck. Someone asks Joe about his worldview, Joe presses the button on the box, and suddenly the box plays/speaks a unique mix of meaningful sentences from pre-recorded ideas of the world from leading thinkers and philosophers. Good, but those aren't Joe's words.
Music exists because someone imagines it, dreams it. No dreams, no music. More AI, more artificial food for the soul.

Just to let you know if you cancel your splice sub.... when you do re subscribe you will get your previous unused credits back along with your new ones.... so you don't lose them as such, I've done this plenty of times with large gaps in between
As for the tool I think it's nice to get you started with an idea however I don't think anyone should just be grabbing loops from splice and should be switching then up anyway....as ai can't replicate the feeling and thought process of humans to make unique creations in the same way.... I kinda view arcade in a similar way.
I would love though to be able to upload a loop of my own and have it analyse my loop and then suggest for instance saxophones that can fit the tempo and key (with pitch shifted options) just to save time digging ..... but I also guess that's the fun
I also think rappers and singers still need a producer as there's a big difference bergen a 4 or 8 bar loop and a fully structured song with transitions.... also we still gotta mix it
Could be handy though for rappers and singers though to find a stack they like to show you there idea if they can't articulate for you to make a full structured beat of something similar
Just my long 2 cents 😂

You really need to make a sample your own, or its just the same as everything else. I am not talking just chopping it up, but literally arranging up the chops, repitching, resampling, etc., otherwise what's the point? Making music is bringing your idea or creation to fruition, not someone else's. We live in a world of movie and TV show reboots, as well as music I guess, these days. Nothing wrong with remaking something, with credit where credit is due. 49,000 songs uploaded to Spotify per day. What's the percentage of good to shiite, like less than 1%?

"Making music is bringing your idea or creation to fruition, not someone else's" - That's only true for artists. For many people, "making music" is about making whatever people will pay to hear, and if they can do that by gluing together pieces from someone/somewhere else with little to no effort, they will. We also live in an age of entitlement where people think "if I hear it, I can take it and use it as my own", without regard to copyright or to the effort (and cost) someone went through to create it.

I just feel that it just means the world will be flooded with more loop based music and real musicians will be more difficult to find.
I'm torn. It's not that it's a bad thing. It's a tool like anything else, but the more time savers and shortcuts we have, the less human touch there is. It means lesser musicians will have their game seemingly brought up, good musicians will have more starting points and inspiration.
For example, I am terrible with drums, but everything else is pretty good. It could help add good drums to my work.
The vocals on splice are cheesy and terrible. But that's not surprising. If someone wrote great lyrics and sang them, they would make it into a track! Splice users are left with second hand leftover lyrics.

My view on AI in general (in the context of music generation) is pretty much the same as my view on using loops -- using it as a minor part of the creation process or as inspiration is perfectly acceptable, but using it as a major part of the composition is unacceptable. Anyone can tap a few keys and glue pieces together; that doesn't take any talent. Actually composing, on the other hand, takes real talent and creativity. Sadly, given the dumbing down of society, the push to make everything sound the same, and people's overall laziness and greed, I have little doubt that AI will be a major part of the creation process for tomorrow's "producers".

It´s a clever toy for beat-creation ,and of course, beats and trap have become the trend, so I can´t argue with success,.For me, if some robotic app does all the work it would be of course, time saving and one can whack out beats at 10 per day, but for a genuine musician who enjoys the process of actually, composing from scratch, playing and learning, where´s the challenge? I mean... come on! How hard is it to come up with an 8 bar cadence? Most people are lazy and will do the least amount of work possible to achieve their goal. Additionally, most people are very sheep-like and want to be told what to like and what is "good".
I have no doubt that "producers" and big-name artists will use this as well as the next generations of AI to generate the music for them, then aggressively market that music so people will think it's "good", effectively forming a feedback loop of generating crappy music that becomes popular because people are told its good (and people will fool themselves into believing it's good because they want to be "cool" and accepted).
