    Not many people are willing to actually share this side of their channel.
    Hats off to you for sharing this with us.
    Glad that people are able to make a good living doing what they love!
    Now to push this to a 6 figure channel.

      Thanks! Yeah most people are very sensitive about money and understandable so. For me, it doesn't bother me to share this type of stuff and I remember when I started I was looking for this exact type of video but nobody was doing it in the gaming space (that I could find) and it would have been very helpful. So hopefully this helps someone or is at least interesting to watch

      It's a tough business for sure and the scary part is views/income can dry up at any moment. Jobs usually have a guaranteed income so there are pluses and bonuses for both. The only reason I feel comfortable doing it now is because I have other businesses that generate income that are stable so if RUclips fails, my family won't be homeless lol I'm glad you were able to figure it out! COVID was a rough time

    Always amazing to see people make their passion financially viable or even exceeding in that, you have put a lot of work into this channel and it's paying off. What I enjoy and probably most of your subscribers is that you have more experience and a calmer attitude, unlike most lets players and such, still the videos are engaging and I never felt the need to click off. I have been watching for a while and don't intend to stop any time soon. Keep it up!

      @Strat-Guides  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! Lol there's definitely a ton of space to grow still for "competing" channels. The thing I've noticed is that good video ideas will always do well. The trick is to figure out what a good video idea actually is. I've seen small channels (less than 1k subs) make a video that gets 500k views or more in a month, then all their other videos are 1k or less views. It's all about those good ideas :D

I just hope it works out in the years to come, what with RUclips being kinda chaotic and you feeling pressured for doing one type of content that brings in more money as opposed to another type that doesn't, and you start asking yourself: "Is this really worth doing?" I also hope you can also keep answering this question with: "So long as I'm making a decent amount of money and I really want to do a video, it's worth doing period." Really enjoy your content and I hope you keep at it.

      Yeah that's usually the biggest issue. It's sad that a lot of the best performing videos are usually click-bait or regurgitated formats that have been done 1000x already. It's okay though, just gotta keep trying to find that format that works that's also enjoyable.

    The thing with shorts, if you want to keep growing at a faster rate, you need them. This is from what I heard, not doing shorts will almost completely cause new viewership to grind to a halt.

    • @Strat-Guides
      @Strat-Guides  3 месяца назад

      If you have a chance, take a look at this channel: www.youtube.com/@ReggieGames I think he posted 1-2 shorts this year, but focused on heavily edited challenge videos with a lot of satire and comedy. He went from 10k subs to nearly 400k in a single year. He's definitely an outlier, but I could tell you 3-4 other creators who didn't make shorts and are still growing as well. I think there are some channels that grow fast with shorts, some that don't and I'm not sure why. It also feels like the algorithm is connecting long and short form together effectively yet. I've seen some massive channels that grew in 1-2 years from shorts, but their long form videos get 10k views (with +2M subs) and it's pretty sad to see. All this is to say that I don't know what the right call is either way lol.

    • @DannyCapM8
      @DannyCapM8 3 месяца назад

      @@Strat-Guides I know about Reggie, I first found him through one of the few shorts he's done. I was bound to find his channel sooner or later at the time since I was heavy into Kenshi content less than a year ago. I won't deny the short helped me find him earlier. People from both sides give good reasons of why shorts aren't worth it or why they are worth it. I honestly think it's just YT's pretty confusing algorithm. But people can't deny the growth of channels that thrived off of shorts (IShowSpeed and PirateSoftware to name two). So from my prospective YT Shorts can heavily influence someone's growth on YT, but the Shorts System from the creator's end is pretty underdeveloped and throw to the side by YT. Creators should be getting more from 2mil views on shorts. But i can see why YT believes why they think ~100-200$ is good enough, but they need to add more incentive to become a better competitor to TikTok from a creator perspective.
      Overall do what you believe is best, I enjoy your content and plan on sticking around. I'm not into the shorts content to begin with and rarely scroll through it. I believe it was by chance I found Reggie through the Shorts when I did.

      Yeah I've got a Robert the Bruce campaign with a ton of mods coming up soon! Banner Kings is amazing, but I run into a lot of crashing issues so I tend to avoid it for long campaigns.

      Understandable, i do however have like 15 hours in it without any crashes yet, and those who stream Banner Kings really don’t know what they are doing, that’s why i suggested it. good luck with your new endeavors 👍

    It makes sense why your shorts fall flat. They kill your algorithm. Unless you do only shorter videos, shorts lower your average watch-time. Noticed it several times with my and other peoples channels. Besides...the short-money is....meh. They are useful to gather 1k subs quickly or for some specific kind of channels (knitting showcases speedcuts etc.), though.
    That said, a question: Why do you seperate Guides and Let's Plays? Does it REALLY effect the algorithm so much?
    Guess you could explode so quickly thanks to Bannerlord. Found you searching for Guides for the Game. From there, it is only logical that you switched to a more general game audience. I guess the transition period was not easy, though.
    Best Regards! Keep up the good work.
    Sincerely,
    another Mid 30 Gamer.

      I haven't noticed a drop in my long form since the shorts were getting picked up - it seems like a completely different audience. I could see there being a short term blip maybe, but the aglo generally knows who will watch which type of content. For example, when I go live, not everyone will see it since not everyone watches live. I'm not 100% sure, but from the data I've seen with my channel it seems more like a decision of "is this worth my time".
      I separate the channels because they are different formats and I'm trying to put specific types of content on the same channel. If I spam let's play episodes, it can make the feed clogged up. It also makes the homepage look awful lol I much prefer to separate them. With that said, I think all videos would still do okay if they were on the same channel, but I like to think there is some benefit to doing this (especially for the viewer)

      Thanks for the extensive reply. It makes sense. It seems the more "data" RUclips has about a channel, the more precise the targeting works, which gives you more leeway to spread out and do complimentary stuff.@@Strat-Guides

    • @Deathelement53
      @Deathelement53 4 месяца назад +1

      Im interested in your opinions on RBM. Personally i find the vast majority of changes to be negative and only good for set battles to put on youtube. Maces and spears are the only good weapons and armour is way to strong. I do however love what they did with cavalry and wish there was a submod just for the cavalry changes @Strat-Guides

    • @Strat-Guides
      @Strat-Guides  4 месяца назад

      @@Deathelement53 I prefer combat with RBM, but it definitely needs some balancing. Cavalry are a bit too strong IMO, but I prefer them that way and they should just make them a lot more expensive.
