    Thank you, do you perhaps know how to create a non-metal flat pattern in SW? I need to create a silicone extrusion with a oversized pressure/friction fit into an extrusion. I can't seem to find this information anywhere on the SW help or tutorials.

    I just quit a job after 3 days being a design engineer for a very small company that made sheet metal parts. My choice of software to use is sold works. For some reason, the parameters entered into Solidorks for bending allowance did not match the press brake machine. If the flat panel produced by solid works gave a bend line that was 1.112 from the edge of the flange for a required 1.25 flange, the machine would make a part out of spec. For some reason, this press brake required an extra 0.03 takeoff, which seemed odd My question is the bend line given in the Solid works flat pattern the bend centerline, and do press brakes require an additional takeoff on the stop to produce this?

      Solidworks by default uses a K factor for bend allowance, and that default is pretty generic. You can set up gauge tables with corrected K factors or bend allowances.

      For best results it is a good I practice to test your bend allowances with a sample part to make sure your designs are matching your physical parts.

    Why do you have the radius lines? Is it possible that they will not be?

      Sharp angles are not desirable for bent metal products. They often cause cracking and fracturing of the material. Along with being unsafe to handle.

    how to create flat pattern of spoon??

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  3 года назад +1

      Flattening a “Formed” part like a Spoon is not considered a “Sheet Metal” function. Sheet Metal covers Straight Bend sheet metal design and a few Swept features as well, but is not for a Die formed type of part.
      You can use the Flatten Surface feature in SolidWorks Premium to get a flat blank of a formed part like a Spoon.
