  • American pilots filmed their airstrikes on German freight trains, vehicles and factories in 1945. In their cameras they had color film material.
    At 6:00 it comes to a massive explosion, probably after fuel tanks have been hit.

      Similar story with my grandma on my moms side. As a child she grew up in Austria Hungary when the war broke out. Witnessing her Jewish neighbors and friends being slaughtered in the streets outside her house by the nazis. When the Allied forces got to the area she lived in she was forced to flee with her little sister. She was running and pushing her sister in a wheel barrel through an open field when a fighter dove down and started firing on them. She as well suffered from extreme PTSD.

    Let me quote directly from the book "Yeager, an autobiography" , by Chuck Yeager himself (Page 63 - "On the Deck"):
    "Our seventy-five Mustangs were assigned an area of fifty miles by fifty miles inside Germany and ordered to strafe anything that moved. The object was to demoralize the German population. Nobody asked our opinion about whether we were actually demoralizing the survivors or maybe enraging them to stage their own maximum effort in behalf of the nazi war effort. We weren't asked how we felt zapping people. It was a miserable, dirty mission, but we all took off on time and did it. If it occurred to anyone to refuse to participate (nobody refused, as I recall) that person would have probably been court-matialed. I remember seating next to Bochkay at the briefing and whispering to him "If we are gonna do things like this, we sure as hell better make sure we're on the winning side." That's still my view." (end quote)

    Watching those tracer bullets ricocheting high into the air reminds me of a news item I read back in the - I think - mid/late 1960s. The Australian Air Force was flying Mirage fighters back then, made under licence in Australia and fitted with two 30-mm Aden cannon.
    A pilot from Williamtown Air Force Base was making ground strafing runs at the range one day when his engine went clang and suddenly lost power. He ejected and when the wreckage was later examined they found a cannon shell inside the engine. He had made a strafing run and, as he flew over the target, scooped up one of his own shells as it ricocheted off the ground.

      The spacing and building size makes that a munitions storage facility, maybe a factory, I can't see the main target well. All those little buildings are set a calculated distance apart to prevent sympathetic explosions, and probably with secondary concrete walls to a) make sure any explosion mainly goes upwards, and b) make sure the building is shielded from any blastwave from elsewhere. You can see the blastwave from the main building when it hits those walls, but the buildings still stand.Ok, looking at the thing frame by frame, I think that might be a prilling tower standing up next a pair of explosive or propellant manufacturing buildings. It is the smallest building in the cluster of 3 that goes up first.

    • @billyboy3031
      @billyboy3031 4 года назад +11

      A lot of people ask the same questions.
      First, think about the time. We were at war with a vicious monster army doing terrible things to civilians and military personnel. Then take into account they were ordered to shoot ANYTHING that moves! This for two main reasons:
      First, even horse drawn wagons and cars near the end could and very often did carry war materials such as ammunition and even German army personnel hidden under hay or other things. Second, was to demoralize the German population. That was often argued by the pilots themselves, but even so, no known incidence of any pilot not following orders occurred.
      As for the few villages that were randomly fired on, they were abandoned by the residents and German soldiers were suspected to be hidden there. Again, take into account the era and how things were looked at. It was war! As we all know..
      War Is Hell..
      I hope this helps you to understand a little better. Remember, the German army were killing indiscriminately men, women and children. It was a terrible time in history for everyone! Just think if the Axis had won the war! You might be without many rights you enjoy today. You might very well be speaking Japanese and you would certainly have no Jewish neighbors!! Also, and maybe of more interest to you, Hitler started the war by invading Poland on trumpt up charges!! I repeat..
      War Is Hell..

    A couple lessons for the ignorant and uneducated. The Wehrmacht was HEAVILY dependent on horses from beginning to the end. The Nazis liked to give the impression they were totally motorized and armored juggernaut but that is totally false. IMO their excessive dependence on horses really choked the capabilities of the Wehrmacht. A horse can only move so fast, plus horses tire out and need rest breaks. They are maintenance heavy along with being slow.
    Also they stole every thing they could from the occupied countries. In Holland they had to go to great effort to hide horses from the Germans, otherwise they'd have stolen them all.
    In the last year or two of the war there was no reason for farmers to be transporting products. First, everyone knew the Allied planes were attacking anything on the roads. Second, anything of value to the German war machine was taken from the local people and transported by horse since trucks were at the most critical areas of fighting. Locals did not have anything to trade or sell that required two horses to pull, so its only logical the horses/wagon were German supplies.
    Civilians moved by foot and at night to avoid contact with any German forces. Civvies also stayed off waterways like canals or rivers because the only goods being transported were either German supplies or stolen by Germans for their war machine. Civvies were in FAR more danger of being murdered by SS or other Nazi enforcers than by any Allied aircraft.
    Pretty wild how stupid some people are to not figure that out.

    I'm a Brit and although I can thank my forfathers for their bravery during the 2nd world war I find this extremely distasteful and pretty pointless. The majority of country dwellers probably had little knowledge of what was going on. Eye for an eye? NO thanks.

      simon fuller It is not just 'distasteful' as you call it. At Nuremberg it would have been called 'war crimes'.

      I'm guessing that you're O.K. with the thought of total submission, speaking German and saluting everyone with a raised arm and a snap of your heels. Way things are going, maybe you'll still get your chance...only you're gonna bow to the east five times as day.

      @@henryseidel5469 it's a war mate kill or be killed!!! It's not a game of tiddlywinks ya know. They started the war and we finished it by any means possible... In fact I felt sorry for them, but I'll never forget the bitterness my grandfather had for German soldiers and people. He did not like anything Germans right up until the day he died... Lest we forget...

    At this stage of the war it was a turkey shoot. They were literally firing at free will. The war was lost for Germany. I sometimes think of this as an overkill.

    Two things I don't like about this video.
    1. Apparently random machine gun bursts into villages and city areas. No specific, clear target. Not cool.
    2. Farmers on wagons with horses fuel the war effort. Reluctantly, these are legit targets.

      Mike Miller yes but you must remember that they brought it upon themselves by initiating total war and by doing those exact things to Britain, Russia, and any city/settlement the Germans went after. It was total war and we hope it never happens again

    This is quite sad. Was there not a front somewhere where these fighters could've attacked enemy soldiers and help win the war? Instead they are 'demoralizing' horses and a handful of civilians in some random small and completely unimportant rural villages?

    • @billyboy3031
      @billyboy3031 4 года назад +3

      That WAS exactly what they were trying to do. Demoralize the German people. Under orders. Remember this was a different time and a horrible war. German army were killing civilians of all races!
      Most of these villages were abandoned by the population and soldiers and ammunition were hidden in these small villages. Horse drawn wagons and cars were often used to carry war material near the end. At this point, concentration camps had been discovered and war atrocities were found. It was a race to end the war as fast as possible at all costs to save as many lives as possible. It's been said by more powerful people than I...
      War Is Hell..
