Been following you for years. Best plumber on RUclips by far. Always come here when I have a plumbing problem💖
Wow, thanks! All the best Paula.
@@dereton33 🙂thanks Dereton you too💖
Really helpful mate! Ty! With this my heating sprung back to life and saved me a fortune! The pressure advice was spot on.
No problem.
Brilliant Video. Had no idea what I was doing until I watched this ! Followed your steps and sorted my whole house ! Thanks Buddy.
No problem James
Thank you al for yet another great video! I’d be lost without all you’re help over the years :)
That is very kind of you Lyndsay. Thank you.
Hi Al,and Jan ☺, thanks for the tips , look after yourselves, stay safe, best wishe's, Stuart Uk.
Thanks, you too!
Great information as always, much appreciated, regards, Chris.
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Chris.
What can I say!? In my humble opinion, your presentation in this video is exemplary. Very simple process to understand and execute.
Certainly one for my diy arsenal.
Thank you
You're very welcome!
Thank you explaining very well I managed to bleed radiators on my own
Great job! Well done Ann.
This saved me a lot of money, thank you!
New subscriber
Thanks for the sub!
Al thanks again for your videos always liked them and again without mustache you look younger. Miguel
Glad you like them! Thanks for the younger bit. Ha ha.
Simple issue but well explained - thanks!
You're welcome!
As per usual, great videos.!!!
....straight forward and to the point.!
....an important aspect of these videos is that we don't have to suffer the usual RUclips faff.
Thanks Frank.
I have an F&E system.
Never knew about venting the air with the boiler off.
Am about to start reusing the two rads in the conservatory. They've been shut off for years.
I'll do the bleed as you say. Hopefully they come back on with no problems.
Good luck with it.
Good advice, not many people mention this on here.
Thanks.
Great video man, very detailed 👍.
I have got a separate tank in my cupboard and the boiler is in my garage. Just to confirm would that be a pressurised system?
No an F and E system.
Nice one pal
Thanks for the visit
Great tutorial Al. I need to replace the filling loop on our combo as it leaks really bad when you top up. Is this a water off and drain down job.
No, so long as both valves are shut on the loop.
Another good, helpful video thanks. But what if you bleed your radiator and its still cold at the bottom 🤔
Sludge in radiator.
Good vid Al, wish I had a combi boiler sometimes, you've reminded me I have some preventative maintenance to do on my f&e system like tank cleaning.
I need a lid for an expansion tank, do you know a good supplier I could get one from?
Cheers..
A local plumbing shop would be best for that Dave.
@@dereton33 I just bought a lid from Toolstation; p/n 67700 Storage Tank Lid £3.78
Thanks
No problem
Another great plumbing video as always. I got alittle lost at 6:51in regards to adding inhibitor. Why would you need to add inhibitor if you are just bleeding out air? Or do you mean if you start making water come out of the bleed nipple?
if you take air out, then you'll need to replace that air with fresh water via the filling loop. That fresh water won't have any inhibitor in it, so you need to add some inhibitor along with that fresh water. As he seems to imply though, it's a bit of a finger in the air process.
Thanks Richard.
@@richardjames712 Well explained. The inhibitor needs to be at the correct level to work effectively. In a former life, I was a water treatment for 40 years. The inhibitor is in there to reduce corrosion in the system, chiefly the steel radiators.
my combi boiler works as intended , domestic water the pressure goes no higher than 1.5 bar from 1 which is expected due to heat expansion, but when CH is engaged the bar pressure goes way past 3 which when i realised made me poo a bit ,thank god the release pressure external valve works outside , i bled all rads and very little locked air escaped , if its a buggered vessel surely itll do the same for domestic hot water heating too ?
No because it is probably the heat exchanger that is gone.
Thanks for this, BUT, can you advise me, regarding a Radiator in a spare bedroom, that hasn't been used since the day it was installed, except for testing for leaks, 25 yrs ago. I'd like to now make use of it. It might possibly be full of air. What should I do? apart from call in a Plumber, Treat it like any other RAD ?
Yes just like any other rad. Check it for air. Check the valves both sides turn on. Maybe system balance too.
so to get past the jargon, I have a megaflow tank + filling loop - is that a combi or F&E system?
it also has to be 'recharged' 2 - 3 times a year - is that normal? Thanks
A pressurised system. Treat the same as a combi.
Do I turn off a combi boiler by turning it off from the fused spur socket that gives it power? If so, my Worcester Combi has an LCD main screen which won't work if it doesn't have power.
No, it just needs to be, not calling for heat .
great video but on a different note, what is the, best way to clean a copper pipe under a floor that's be there for 30 years plus, for soldering
A bit of wire wool. Scrub and enjoy the delight of seeing a black old pipe suddenly go copper coloured again. Until it starts to tarnish again of course.
Thanks Richard.
Thanks Al 😊
Very welcome
How come if it is a sealed system air gets into it? Or is it actually air or just some sort of gas caused by a chemical reaction between the water and the material of the pipes
adiators?
It is a chemical reaction.
I put inhibitor into my system and two radiators pin holed a few days later, I have no idea why except a bit of corrosion was loosened by the adding of the inhibitor and caused the pin hole.
Humm might have to make a video on that one Thanks Birdie.
Hi appreciate some advice. I have an oil boiler for the central heating and hot water. The boiler stopped working and was off for a number of weeks before I got an engineer to fix it. Turned out it was a faulty photocell. Once replaced it worked again, but I noticed the water wasnt heating up quite as well but the radiators were hot. Now, a few weeks later, the water is hardly heating at all just tepid. I also noticed the small radiator in the bathroom, which is the closest to the hot water tank, is tepid too though all the other rads are hot. Any idea what could be causing the water not to heat up properly, and how to fix? Many Thanks.
Might be worth checking the three valve is operating properly. Also the pump.
I had a similar issue which turned out to be a stuck diverter valve
@@gencouple Thanks, though I dont think it's a combi boiler as there's a hot water tank, and Ive read only combi boilers have a diverter valve?
Bob thank you. But am stuck my radiator dont get hot ( hot water;boiler Navien instAnt hot water )
I changed the control valve no leaks it's in the on position. I bleed the air out of it I set the thermostat to 78 and all radiator get hot but that one. I moved that radiator from one side of the room to the other side .I went in the basement the feed and return lines to the radiator. they start of hot but when I get to about 5 to 8 feet from that radiator the lines get cold
Shut off all the rads except the one not working. When it gets hot just turn on the others a small amount.
Morning Dereton 33.
I've got a Baxi 22yr old system and appear not to have a pressure dial.
How do I know about the pressure 🤔
Is it a combi boiler? If not then you do not need one as you have an F and E system.
Is the green growth on copper pipes a concern?
Yes. Rub it off with some wire wool.
Big al i dont know if ur still taking questions but il try...
Radiators bled while combi boiler on
Boiler stopped working properly
Fault codes coming up;;;
[ Temp rising to fast. Pump error and sensor error ]
From what i read and im probably wrong but each of these seem to be caused by the water pressure being to low
But the issue is iv never had gd pressure in the boiler its always sat low..
Iv not got a clue but i think theres air in the boiler or something
Any ideas ???
All the best
First re-pressurise the boiler to one and a half bar. Bleeding while the boiler was on would pull air in on some systems. Go around and check all rads are clear of air. Recheck the pressure and if necessary re-top it to one and a half bars. Any more error codes mean you will need an engineer to take a look at it.
If you got too much water in your radiators what do you need to do bleed It Out or wait for a somebody else to check it
Bleed it out.
Al', does the wife know you used her best saucepan during the making of this video ???...lol
Well, he'll soon find out when the soup tastes a little funny.......🤣
He'll probably get the saucepan over his head when Jan finds out!😱😵😂
You all seem to have the measure of Jan. Ha ha.
What would happen then if you put too much inhibitor in? I thought too much is better than too little.
Can lead to radiator and pipe corrosion.
I was wondering the same. I tend to just slosh it in with fingers crossed. I'm worried now!
good
Thanks 😀
How do you add inhibitor to your system ?
Through a radiator, if it's a combination boiler
Or in the small F and E tank in the loft if it is not.
I thought the Mrs was doing this video 😊
She said she had done enough ha ha.
Me too 😂😂
I just changed my boiler, All raditors in the house are hot except 1. The plumber bled it until water came out a a couple of times. It gets warm, then it goes cold again. No one can figure out why its happening! its a Burnham boiler we just installed (Im located in NYC)
The system needs balancing
no air in the radiator only water comes out straight away but doesnt heat up
System needs balancing, see my other videos on this subject.
If the system is pressurised where does the air come from?
The boiler as it is used.
@@dereton33 But I thought the boilers were sealed - if not how is the system pressurised?
@@Lyndalewinder nothing is 100% air tight , and the combustion reaction creates air as well
I have a radiator in the bedroom every 5mins or so I can hear gurgling noise. What do I need to do
Bleed the radiator. Check the locksheild valve is fully open. Also that the TRV is fitted the right way round on the flow pipe and not the return. You can check this by seeing which pipe heats up first from cold.
@dereton33 the lockshied value to know if its fully open what do I need to do its on the right side of the radiator and the tvr valve is fitted on the left side. I will bleed the radiator whilst heating is off.does the boiler need to he switched off aswell? Do I bleed it until hissing noise is off or bleed it until hissing noise and water is out? Thanks
Or use two people to do it, one on bleed and the other on pressure monitor 😊
Yes so long as it is not the one miles away. Shout louder Effel, ha ha.
