  • The Alto de l'Angliru is one of cycling's iconic climbs. Since its 'discovery' and inclusion in the Vuelta a España in 1999, riders have struggled up its fierce gradients, and fans flock here from around the world to witness the drama.
Ex pro cyclist Conor Dunne returns to this beast of a climb for the first time since crawling his way up on Stage 20 of the 2017 Vuelta. Joining Conor is David Millar facing his own demons, after his 2002 Vuelta when he crashed twice in heavy rain and fog. These horrific conditions led to his dramatic protest, refusing to cross the finish line. Ex pros Chechu Rubiera and Samuel Sánchez also explain what the notorious Angliru means to them.

A truly awesome climb in a magnificent decorum! The last few kilometers are relentlessly beautiful, intense, unforgiving… and the fog, which often envelopes those who want to conquer this mighty mountain, adds to the magic.
Not to mention the great company of the horses, cows, sheep and goats, with whom one has the privilege to share this piece of unreasonably steep tarmac…
I had the pleasure to climb the Angliru this summer and loved every second of the challenge. Wonderful memories indeed!

Inspired me to go up it virtually this morning. Unlike Connor, I changed my gearing to give my knees a sporting chance, but it was still an absolute beast.

      I checked. It's stage 17.
First, 2 category 1 climbs, and then the Angliru.

This needs to be a downhill ITT. It should be held during the night and in a rainy day.

I'm from Asturias. Angliru starts 20km away from my home. It's hell. I'd only climb it if I were a pro and I was paid to do it 😂

21% is something I’d do easily. In the winter. On snow.
On a pair of ski, downhill. 😂😂
    Easy.
