Nice little lists. I don't know why I like jaipur as it is so basic... But I still like it. Other 2 players only that are working well over here : -Targui -Crypt of sedlec -Hive -Codenames duo -Jekyll VS Hyde -Splendor duel -Star Wars the Deckbuilding -Mindbug Cheers from belgium
Hi you two. Just a message to say this: I discovered your channel recently (this weekend in fact) and I am particularly pleased with it. As I judge (let's say, enjoy) each game through its mechanics AND its theme, I find your "editorial line" perfect. And it is sublimated by your energetic duo and your unfeigned complicity. I'll be sure to check out what you've done beforehand. Thank you for your work so far :)
Welcome to the channel! Thanks so much for taking the time to give us this feedback... it's lovely to have you here and we look forward to talking about games with you ☺️
Maggie's face when she couldn't wait to talk about the Jaipur camels :) I watch you two a) for the great reviews and b) cus you just cheer me up after a hard day at work!
Love this, so many great 2 player games! Some fun things I was thinking about: - Fox in the Forest: Not sure if you’ve played the app, but it is really beautiful! I love pulling it out if I want to play something calming while I try to decompress - 7 Wonders Duel: Maggie, there is a print and play solo variant apparently. I’ve printed it but not played yet. Super curious to see if it can come close to creating a similar experience! - Lost Cities: I think a couple things that may draw themers in are that the concept of paying for the expedition up front at least makes thematic sense, and that the cards of each expedition make a panoramic picture when placed in order. It’s the little things I guess 😂 Love your content, I really appreciate all the thought you put into each video!
Hanamikoji is such a small, but tense and super strategic, little game with beautiful art. It's easily one of my favorite 2 player games especially when traveling. I was sad to see how low you two rated it.
Yes, but sometimes it does feel a little too rules, light, no? Its perfect for the beginning or ending of a two-player session, but not enough for a full evening, I think.
I thought that your breakdown of Haven was both extensive and precise. It's a complex little game with dependent mechanisms that could intuitively seem unrelated. It's a tricky one. Very glad you were able to get a copy.
I have to say I just recently discovered your channel and you both have such a great presentation style that really plays well off each other. You both just talked for over an hour, no script, on 10 games, and were way more articulate than so many other board game channels. Really appreciate your insights and all the work you put into these videos!
Thank you so much! That is really lovely to read. 😄 we've never used a script but over the years we've certainly learnt not to drift too much... so maybe don't go back too deep into the archives heheheh. Thanks for watching!
Yahoo! Jonah and I mostly play 2 player games, and have a vast collection (almost all of these), and I've been waiting for this! Thanks. Wonderful, as always.
That is a perfect analogy, Maggie! I don't like area control because of that feeling of kicking over someone's sand castle or having yours destroyed. I can take area majority okay, in games like Blue Lagoon. Another great video as always!
Still adoring this series, loving the occasional themed episode. I work in a board game cafe so 2 player games are our bread and butter, this had out a couple of new things on the list - thanks Maggie and Amy!
Absolutely loving this series, the variety is presented in a very informative way and certainly helps choose the next game to add to my collection, Thank you Amy and Maggie..
Hanamikoji and Pandemic were two of the first games I bought that brought me into the hobby. For that reason, Hanamikoji will always hold a sentimental place in my heart. We enjoy Canopy too. (Did you know that that push your luck style of card drafting in Canopy is called a Winston draft?) And Radlands! Maggie, I knew you were going to give it a 9! It's a great game: high replayability, solid mechanics, and oh my, the art... 😍 (Manny Trembley, who also worked on Wonderland's War, is one of the artists on Radlands as well.) This is a game where having the playmats really makes sense because they help you to organize things and you'll learn the game faster too. I've played with and without playmats and will definitely be using the playmats from here onwards.
Haha love the difference in opinion with regards to Kahuna, very relatable :'). Me and my partner are trying to get into board games but deciding is quite hard as we both have such different preferences XD. Thank you for the great wholesome vids!
Thank you very much! It was very interesting episode, full of games which I find appealing and wanna play. Your discussion on some of those make me so eager to get and play them as soon as I am able, even some that I wasn't into before until hearing your thoughts. Great job! And keep doing this series and all other video they are very enjoyable and relaxing. They are definitely useful in me learning about games.
Thanks for this kind feedback James! So glad the series is helping you discover new games. 🙌 Thanks for watching and look forward to hearing your thoughts on the ones you get a chance to play!
My brother has really embraced the hobby lately but is away for school. Just got him 7 Wonders Duel for Christmas thinking that'll be a great little first addition to his "collection" 😊
I really enjoyed this video because my husband and I play a lot of two player games. Of the ones you mentioned, these are also our favorites: 7 Wonders Duel, Fox in the Forest, and Jaipur. All of them stand the test of time and can be played over and over. Fox in the Forest is our favorite travel game. I cannot wait to hear what you think of 7 Wonders Duel Agora. I think it will blow your mind! So I guess I have to give serious consideration to Radlands. It doesn't look like a game that I (or Maggie) would enjoy at all! However, with the two high scores from both of you, I definitely want to give it a try. Thank you both!
Kahuna is so good... I was surprised, actually, how in love with it both Rich and I have fallen with that beaut. It's like a fancier Backgammon in a way, but oh boy is the tension in that game something else. I don't blame Amy for being breathless XD
I like Kahuna but it has a very niche appeal. It has weird combination of mechanisms. It's almost the poster child for "BGG 6.5" -as in "anything rated between 6 and 7 on BGG will be meh or worse to 85% of people but will be a great fun game to about 15% of people and you might be in that 15%, but maybe play the odds and try before you buy". Hanamikoji is in my top 10 2-player games and I think Jaipur and Lost Cities are overhyped junk. But I'm keen on Radlands and Fox and the Forest. Keep up the series, I really like it!
Yeah that's true. I (Amy here) lost to both but always seem to be more aware of the science cards. The military track I'm always thinking smeh it will be fine... then BAM. Not fine. Lol
Ahhh.... Pantheon is SUCH a great expansion for 7 Wonders: Duel. I always play with it; adds a great and fun dimension to the game. (As always, love your work! Where is Star Realms in this list???)
Is this an incredible example of a Deep Fake video or is that really Maggie giving those scores??? You'll need to be careful or you could lose your "Themer" accreditation! Nice video and was great to see Maggie's surprising enjoyment and rating on a lot of these games. Least surprising -- Kahuna. Most surprising -- Radlands!
I'm a huge fan of 2 player only games and have a nice little collection of them. Canopy and Unforgiven are the only two I don't own. Unforgiven is too similar to 7WD a fav of mine that I don't think I'd ever choose to play it over that. Canopy looks interesting though. Will have to keep an eye out for a second hand copy. Thanks for another great video.
Hi Amy and Maggie, Canopy looks gorgeous. Is this still available? Love Hanamikoji, Radlands and 7W duel. Can't wait for the next episode of 2-player only episode. The Gipf-series (visible over Amy's shoulder) must come up for sure. Maybe Onitama? I know for sure that we don't have a cross-over with my no.1 2p-only game!!
Ahhh, we did not align so well here. Hanamikoji is one of my absolute favourite 2 player only games! Up there with Lost Cities, Raptor and Paris: City of Lights. 7 Wonders Duel was a flop for me, eek! Granted I've only played it on BGA and it there I felt like I was just going through the motions making the obvious choices. Maybe if I played it in person it would be better.
Hanamikoji is my favorite out of those. In the similar small 2p card game category, my #2 is Schotten Totten. I still can't get the love for Jaipur, I found it rather boring.
Hehehehe Amy here and I can completely appreciate why that would be!!! Maggie will be happy to know she's not the only one (actually based on its quite low BGG rating there might be more who agree with you than not!!) Thanks for taking the time to comment ☺️
Well we own them so that brings the ranking up overall, and then if you applied a normal distribution to the top of the scale I think it makes sense they would mostly be in the 7 range. Plus we try to align to what we'd expect to see on BGG which tends to be similar (a 7 usually means good and an 8 means great). I hope that answers you question!
Amy! You're wearing more than two colors! And yet Maggie is still quadrupling you haha
Hahahahahahaha so true! 😂
Nice little lists.
I don't know why I like jaipur as it is so basic... But I still like it.
Other 2 players only that are working well over here :
-Targui
-Crypt of sedlec
-Hive
-Codenames duo
-Jekyll VS Hyde
-Splendor duel
-Star Wars the Deckbuilding
-Mindbug
Cheers from belgium
I love on FitF where Amy says "or maybe you're getting worse at it" and Maggie says "Maybe! I'm open to that!" 🤣
No wonder you love her, Amy. 💘
She's undeniably the better half Anne 😂🥰

Fantastic episode of this fantastic series 😍 Thank you so much 🙏☺️
I love Canopy. Also, placing the animals on the finished tree is so satisfying and makes it so beautiful.

Pantheon 7WD expansion makes the game even better! It’s so worth adding
I cannot play regular 7WD without the expansion. The Pantheon expansion is so good
This is a consistent theme in the comments... I guess we better escalate this to the top of the pile 😀 thanks for the advice!
@@ThinkerThemer thanks! It is so much fun!

I agree completely, it's fantastic
I wish i could come up with some sort of strategy on this game.
Yes, but sometimes it does feel a little too rules, light, no? Its perfect for the beginning or ending of a two-player session, but not enough for a full evening, I think.
I'm really surprised at the low scores for Hanamikoji! I'm amongst the lovers of that game.
I WANT TO LIKE IT MORE!!!! 🥲
So many people liked it. For me it is pure trash.

Funny you should mention that Dwayne... Maggie was quite good at Blue Lagoon when I taught her recently!!! Hope ur both happy and well ❤️
You should try Botanik if you are into tile-laying. It is my personal favorite in this category.
Ahh interesting that is one we've seen around a lot but never played! Thanks for the recommendation!
Nice! Radlands is my favorite 2-player game, even though I lose 95% of the time
It's so great isn't it?? So much game in a small box 🥰
Yes! Radlands!! I still need to challenge you sometime, Maggie!
Yesssssssssssssssssssss

We need a shirt that says "10, out of 10 (the comma is important)" on it.

Thanks girls! 2 player board games are my favourite. Since my wife is also my main second player hahaha
I had tons of fun with the Joey 7 Wonders Duel tournament. You mentioned military a lot but that science victory seemed to be what I saw the most!
Yeah that's true. I (Amy here) lost to both but always seem to be more aware of the science cards. The military track I'm always thinking smeh it will be fine... then BAM. Not fine. Lol

Thanks for watching! 🥰
I own and like 7 Wonders Duel 🙂 I'm interested in Jaipur and Lost Cities.... 🤔
Radlands! We loved it so much we upgraded to the deluxe edition. Although, like Maggie, I am yet to win a game.
Thanks for this 2 player list!

Really want to try out Radlands! Thanks for the overview

Same. I really don't care for Jaipur and I love Hanamikoji.
Also love Radlands! Add it to the list! haha
I love this series.
You all have to try Caper
We own Caper Europe and it will definitely be in an upcoming episode! Thanks for watching Brent!
How many games are in your collection?
Haven - huh? I'm so confused! lol
Sorry about that 😅
Are you gonna do PART 10 ( COMMA! ) OUT OF TEN hahaha
Hahahah we will get there!! Quite the title... part 10 comma 10 comma out of 10. Lol 😆
I'm 100% with Maggie on Kahuna. Can't stand it. Keep trying to like it but really do not.
Hehehehe Amy here and I can completely appreciate why that would be!!! Maggie will be happy to know she's not the only one (actually based on its quite low BGG rating there might be more who agree with you than not!!) Thanks for taking the time to comment ☺️
You two are way to expensive for me. Are you sure you're not on Gameology's payroll? 😉
I apologize that I have not properly been calling this series "10 comma out of 10" 😛
Gasp! The comma is essential! 😂 hope you & the family are well ❤️
