I have made the Peppermint Magazine Wide Strap Maxi dress, but made a mini version. Very cute and easy to wear. I watched a few reviews that said to size down and shorten the elastic for the back. I followed these recommendations and glad I did. I am going to make another one with skinny straps.

I love Mary Quant being pronounced that way! For what it’s worth though, it’s pronounced like quantity. I also don’t care who “invented” the mini first, Quant MADE the mini! Especially in the UK, the 60s wouldn’t have been the same without her. I’ve managed to go all this time and never heard of the other designer you mentioned lol (edit to add, I’m also quite forgetful)

😆😆 thanks for help with the name. In wanted so badly to say it right but knew I was off. Also, I’m the opposite LOL. I guess it’s all about the fashion designers who are prevalent where you’re from. Regardless, she is forever a legend!

@@thecuratedcurvyI did a bit of a deep dive afterwards. Of course I’ve heard of Courrèges, don’t know how I forgot, but I have ADHD so most names have a habit of not sticking lol What I’m glad about is Quant never claimed to have invented the mini. Typical of a man to claim to invent something that was, really, an inevitable next step in fashion. Hemlines were rising in the end of the 50s anyway. Courrèges said Quant commercialised it. Well, sir, that sounds like sour grapes to me! I’ve always been a fan of more wearable fashion too, on the glam side, so Quant just works better for me, and I think she had a lot more influence on the American look than is realised. Though it’s all moot because I have entirely the wrong body type, I didn’t take after my mother. Who had a Quant dress, which was her prized possession when she was 16!

@@thecuratedcurvyI forgot to say, if you ever get a change to go to the V&A don’t pass it up. Obviously there’s a lot of very iffy colonial things there (par for the course in a Victorian founded museum, I’m ashamed to say it’s not changed and doesn’t look like it will anytime soon) but there’s always an amazing fashion display on.
