Watkins Glen State Park | Gorge Trail

- Next on our Fall Break 2021 road trip, we visit one of New York's most popular state parks, Watkins Glen, in the Finger Lakes region. We hike the famous Gorge Trail, where the stream drops 400 feet over the course of 2 miles, cutting out 200' cliffs, with 19 waterfalls along the way. If you're a fan of streams, waterfalls, cliffs, bluffs, rock formations, & geology, you will love this park. For my midwestern friends, it's like Hocking Hills' Old Man's Cave trail, but more water!

I have family that lives in that in NY state and every summer they go there to camp. I'm in Ontario Canada and hope to go there next summer!
It's not a big park, but that gorge is awesome, and there are a lot of other parks and forests in the area to explore as well. Would be a great place to camp!

wow, what a place, this one has been on my bucket list for a long time. Definitely stunning, so many waterfalls along the way, yes, so green and mossy. That less crowded trail at the end it so well worth it. Just beautiful!! Happy Bday to you!
Thanks Nicole! We loved this place, it had been on my bucket list for a long time too. The park isn't big, doesn't take too long to explore the gorge, but there is LOT of other natural areas nearby, including state parks, state forests, and national forests. Had the weather not turned on us, we would have camped in the nearby Finger Lakes National Forest that night.

Yes, same! My intention had been to arrive here a couple hours earlier in the morning, to avoid the crowd. But, things don't always go according to plan, LOL. Still worth it!

Yeah, it had been on my list for a long time. So when we made plans to go to the Adirondacks, I checked to see how close we would be, and it was practically right on our way!

That is pretty awesome. Looks like you needed a swimsuit for part of that trail that went behind the falls. Super cool area. The bridges and narrow canyons were pretty unique. Awesome video. Have a great day.
We definitely got wet! So worth it though. They closed the trail for the season the week after we were there, I can only imagine how icy it gets in the winter!

@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions I use a Garmin Oregon 700 and track all my hikes. You can upload it to basecamp on a computer. I like seeing the tracks superimposed on the map it clarifies a lot of things you should try it and it will journal all your hikes for you that way. Additionally you can add notes if you’d like to.

Did Cellphone service work on the trail,in case of emergency?
Good question, but honestly, I don't remember if it did. I wasn't too worried about it since the trail isn't all that long, and was constantly busy with people.
