I agree with your choices for the Yankees of New York Radio but you are missing the Greatest of all times, Herb Oscar Anderson who actually passed away 3 years ago yesterday. I did listen to Harry Harrison and yes he was good. My only issue with him is that he usurped the title of "Morning Mayor " which actually was bestowed officially upon Herb Oscar Anderson by Mayor Robert F. Wagner during his administration. Other than that Harry Harrison was one of the best. He will be missed. We only have one of the Radio Greats left with us, Cousin Brucie is the last of the day group.

My mom is in his Housewife Hall of Fame, a giveaway he did daily on WMCA (I still have two Good Guy sweatshirts!). She received a bouquet of roses. He was always a class act.

WCBS-FM sign on message: "Each new day should be unwrapped like a precious gift. That's why it's called, the Present".
WCBS-FM sign off message: "I wish you the very best, because that is exactly what you deserve".
I remember hearing both, every time I listened, as well as everything in between. I also looked forward to the airing of his "May You Always" message during the Christmas season.

I remember Harry Harrison on WMCA. He was great then and remained the best DJ on the radio throughout his career. His back and forth banter with Mr. G on CBS-FM was hysterical. I listened every morning on my drive to work...a great way to start the day. He will be greatly missed!!

Loved listening to Harry Harrison on WABC in 1976. Harry made radio come alive. His is the best voice I've ever heard on radio.

As a kid in jersey in the 70s with.a transistor radio in hand it was Harry Harrison in the am and Dan Ingram in the afternoon top 40 Rock and Roll. 77 NYC radio.
The echo chamber audio on a single speaker transistor AM radio made work. Even after the speaker crackled from cranking up the tunes. It still sounded great.
Hey thats all we had in the early 70s.
This is way before walkmans and cds.
If you wanted portable music outside you had your transistor radio with the cream color ear plug and usually a ripped speaker and a floppy antenna that never stayed up staight.
But damn that was great radio growing up the soundtrack to many a great summer.
If you ever wondered why the music commentary of both Harry Harrison and Dan Ingram as well as others was often heard as if it were delivered with a yell. I believe besides showing enthusiasm its also so the millions of fans can hear them on their transistor radios.

Recall hearing him very early morning in 1963 as the convoy left Fort Jay and moved across New York in the dark until the dawn broke. We were headed for the rifle range on Long Island.

Radio once had great personalities like Harry Harrison. Then garbage like Howard Stern came along.
