Evan (Ashton Kutcher) saves the mother and her baby, but ends up in an alternate reality where he is crippled and Kayleigh (Amy Smart) is now with Lenny (Elden Henson).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Final Destination 2 screenwriters Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber make their directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller The Butterfly Effect. Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher with facial hair) wants to free himself from his disturbing childhood memories. As a kid, he often blacked out for long periods of time and tried to detail his life in a journal. As a young adult, he revisits the journal entries to figure out the truth about his troubled childhood friends Kayleigh (Amy Smart), Lenny (Elden Henson), and Tommy (William Lee Scott). When he discovers he can travel back in time in order to set things right, he tries to save his beloved friends. However, he finds out that relatively minor changes can make major problems for the future. The Butterfly Effect also stars Eric Stoltz, Ethan Suplee, and Melora Walters. The title was inspired by the story A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.

This is such a great scene, the horror of realizing his arms gone, and the sadness that everyone is perfect except him.
Thing I loved about his character was this timeline. Even barely able to live with his new life, he never even considered trying to change it until he realized his mom was so much worse. When it looked like his friends were finally living their best life he would have rather died than tried to fix himself and risk it going wrong for them again. Some nice foreshadowing there.

That is literally what I was thinking the whole time or if Evan went and tackled the lady instead of Tommy and Tommy stayed back everybody would’ve been fine except maybe the baby would’ve had a few bruises
And they probably would’ve spent a little bit of time in Juvy For property damage or had to pay charges or do community service

He can't go back to when the mailbox exploded because he had no arms to write that down. He wrote down what happened afterwards but since he has no arms he didn't continue to write the diaries, this is why he only had 1 book the next time he goes back.
When I watched this movie for the first time and saw Tommy acting so nice and being such an angel, I was so shocked! Because in most timelines, he's a psycho, but one incident changed his life completely

I remember being just 10 years old watching this and thinking this movie was amazing and then this part happen and I could not stop laughing 😆🤣😂 still a classic though.
I loved them movie when it came out. Admit it shows it's age and some parts are definitely more cheesy than I remember. But it is still a brilliant movie.

In early versions of the script, the character of Evan was originally Chris Treborn. When the "T" is moved over, it becomes "Christ Reborn". This was changed to Evan Treborn, which is a play on "Event Reborn".

Sometimes I clap, cause Evan found his way through a big maze that seemed impossible. (Be that the theatrical ending or the original sad ending.)
But I understand this film is not for everyone and has flaws.
I found a book version (based off the movie rather than the other way around), and it is good cause it has more time to develop everything.
I always felt bad for laughing at this scene🤣🤣

2019 and still love this one like the first time. I watch this movie and try to convince myself that at the end all ends well with him still being friends with Lenny the way it's 'suppose' to be. When in reality, it's ALL in his head. It's HIS reality. Realistically, the dr and/or security broke into the office, probably sedated him and took him back to his room. Depressing. Someone convince me I'm wrong and it all worked out in the end! Lol
Tbh. Even though it would’ve literally cost him an arm and a leg, I always felt like this was probably one of the best outcomes for him and his friends. Especially if they had a good life and still stayed together.
Then you didn't watch the movie. This is one of the worst outcomes for Evan because his mom started chain smoking since he blew off his hands. She has lung cancer and can barely talk

I never realized how sad this movie really is! I felt so bad for Evan 💔 he really loved Kayleigh. “No one can possibly love anyone as much as I love you?” He did everything he could to be with her, to save her until he realized they were never meant to be and that they were always bound to be doomed! And that the only way he can ever save her is by erasing their entire relationship. He loved her that much that let her go if it meant she was better off! 💔💔😢 that’s real love 💕
It was better than the planned ending. Initially, he was going to prevent the relationship by choking himself to death in the womb, but test audiences hated it.

Tommy was bad as hell but when I saw him save that lady and her baby really made me admire that character because for one second he turn to good and became good in that shapter I mean thumbs up for the boy.

+Martin Rodriguez I don't think he was doing it to be good. He was doing it because he wanted an excuse to tackle a lady with a baby. He knew the bomb wasn't going to go off in her face so he did the next best thing to have fun while under the guise of doing something good.

Why not just go back to that moment and just take like a couple steps away from the mail box? Like you can still wave your arms at the lady and not lose your limbs if you just go like 10 ft to the right.
If the writers weren't so lazy, they would have made the mother closer, or already at the mail box. Give her headphones so she can't hear them. Then it makes sense they'd have to risk their life to run up and grab her.

To be fair people were azzholes in the early 2000's, espeically people their age. BUt yeah, would hope at least a few less people would have done that if nothing else. But not 100% unbelievable sadly.

Nobody would stare and laugh at him falling over. So either this is a projection of Evan's embarrassment or the film's universe is something like a Flannery O'Connor novel wherein everybody is a monster.

Rotten Tomatoes are iditots. This movie is great, and Amy Smart made a fan out of me. I truly thought she was just another pretty face in Hollywood until I saw this movie, she gave a brilliant performance and it is a shame she didn't get more recognition for it.

His blackouts let him change timelines in this life. But they change ending out comes.
His journals were useless and barely used after this event occurred in this timeline. I think once he tried to write his mouth with Lenny holding the book papers for him.
