Trex Deck Post Solar LED Hack - 18 Lights under $150

- These Solar LED lights on Amazon cost $46.99 for 6 lights. Take apart your Trex Transcend Post Caps (they are 2 snap pieces), use the bottom portion and put the Amazon Solar LED Lamps on top. PERFECT FIT ! You can add a #4 stainless screw 1/2 inch to secure it if you have high winds. I did my deck of 18 LEDs Solar Lamps for less than $150.
Had Trex Posts recently installed on my new front porch, one Trek post light is now $110, OMG! Anyway, found this video, tried it, received 8 lights for my porch for about $50, look amazing, thanks for video!
You are a genius! I can't thank you enough. After spending a lot of money putting up a new deck I thought there was no way I could ever get light up posts. Tricky treks... $100 a piece. I tried what you showed. Works perfect!!! Thank you so much again.
You are welcome. A really inexpensive workaround. We have high winds here in Virginia and at no time did any of these fly off the Trex post. Oh, check out the Colored Version.... Holiday on Steroids.

This was great! Another option is if you purchase the Trex Post Base Trim - it's the exact same size as the bottom portion of that cap. If you want to save your caps, just purchase the Trex post base trim ($3 - $6) to use as your connector to the solar light.
Great idea, John! After looking high and low for solar powered post caps for Trex deck post sleeves, I was about to give up. Then I saw your video. I was able to get the original Trex post caps apart pretty easily with two flat head screwdrivers. The lights look good and work great for little money!

Yeah..... really easy hack. Trex made their post proprietary so no off the shelf Solar Light would fit. Well, we showed them. Can't wait for the holidays as I have the changing colored Solar Lights up ......... can't wait.

Yepper……….easy, fast, cheap and looks great. If you have trees or shade that does not recharge batteries enough, just rotate those every 5-7 days.

how to separate out the cap to base/top parts, having a hard time - pls help
What works best is a thin spatula where you make a tiny space between the tabs and place a painters razor blade or thin guitar picks between the locking tabs and do this to 2 or more sides.
I have 3x3 aluminum post. Can't find anything.

I took 4 butter knife placed on all side, pushed one side up and all came out easy
Is there a way to turn the lights off so that they get used on-demand only?
Scott, these are automatic, thus they come one late dusk almost dark and go off at sunrise. There is no way to toggle these to the Off position except by removing the battery. Hope this helps.
