    Unless i missed one, you've only looked at their first album, that being tracks 4,5 and 6. Always happy to see more NeO on here. If you want a more classical 'beautiful' song from them then i would of said track 3 off their second album as it's a shorter instrumental song with pretty much all acoustic guitars and violins.

    • @1tslilly
      @1tslilly 2 года назад

      i would only listen to that one if youre gonna listen to the whole painters of the tempest trilogy, its more of an ending that works way better after listening to part 2 of painters

    • @ryanschindler923
      @ryanschindler923 2 года назад

      @@1tslilly i only said that one if someone was just looking for a single "beautiful" song and it's all soft instrumental stuff and doesn't have death metal trappings. But of course it's supposed to be included in the 3 part structure.
      Of course i think it's all beautiful but most non death metal people would be put off a bit.

    As always a great analysis. I'd love to see a similar breakdown of Intra Venus, a track that I think is more dynamic yet even more technically and melodically impressive.

    i just wanted to say i appreciate your informative and critical but not cynical approach to music. I think i'm learning something and maybe going forward it'll be easier for me to understand what are the elements i like in music, and discover new music, also thanks to you :)

      It's kinda a huge umbrella term, but my goal here is to expand music appreciation. So you learning more about music and how to articulate your thoughts regarding music is 100% one of the reasons I do this. It makes me so happy that people are getting that out of my videos!

    Love this track from them. IMO, it's about global warming for sure. As you got to in the lyrics analysis, the icicles falling is glaciers melting. Listen back to the drum lines ending in a crash in the opening: that's the big chunks of ice breaking off glaciers into the ocean. Sanguine glaciers are those that are part of the lifeforce of the planet, they give life and act like veins carrying blood. As the vocals go from clean only, to clean with harsh backing, to harsh with clean backing, to harsh only, and the instrumentals gradually increase in tempo and aggression like you say, this is ultimately expressing the frustration and anger that Mother Earth is dying

    Saw Ne Obliviscaris some years ago and Dan, their drummer, also filled in for the opening band Virvum (technical death metal). He played two sets almost every evening for like a month with only one band in between as a break. He's an amazing machine...will be hard for NeO to replace him

    You gotta check out the newer albums how haunting Tim can make the violin sound it really sets the mood for the upcoming track usually on the intros of multiple part songs (devour me colossus black holes) and (painters of the tempest pt2) (Urn) have huge swings heavy to soft and awesome IMO

    I think Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise, Pyrrhic or Eyrie would be a better choice for "beautiful", but, as you mentioned, in the end is all subjective. Nonetheless, thank you for checking out NeO again, I hope you delve more into them. They have a new album due for sometime this year, I can't wait! As always... Thanks Bryan.

    Ne Obliviscaris is one of the bands from my home country that I have always wanted to love so desperately, but I've never been able to. I don't know why, but something about the music fails to grab me, alienates me even turns me off ... even though aesthetically, it has all of the traits that I normally gravitate to in metal.

    Check out 'Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise' by NeO as well.
    And try some songs from their other albums. They're also releasing a new album later this year.
    I recommend checking out Painters of the Tempest. It's a 3-parter, but the meat is in Part 2 (named 'Triptych Lux').
    It's a longer one, but it's one of their best.

Too clean too well executed I just shake my head and want to listen to some Little Tim 🙄 Little know fact☝️ Diamanda Galas Litanies of Satan is the most beautiful thing you could ever hear 🤔🙏

    NEO are a band that I want to like more than I do. I really want them to be the next generation's Opeth, and I think they have the talent to do so, but whenever I listen to their music I find myself hearing its excellence but wishing there was more of a WOW effect. Perhaps most of that is just my own way-too-high standards given that, eg, I found Opeth at a time when I didn't have nearly as much similar music to compare it to; as to where as a veteran metalhead I'm listening to NEO and comparing them with all the bands they're influenced by, and most of what I hear is an excellent mix of metal sub-genres but nothing that I would categorize as mind-blowing original. It probably sounds like I'm being more negative than I mean to, but that's just because NEO are good enough to withstand that kind of judgment by super-high standards.
    All that said, this was still an awesome listen, and I do think NEO tends to work better in single isolated tracks rather than on the albums where the sound/style gets a bit monotonous after some time. Also, only extreme metalheads would have a song like this in mind to suggest for "beautiful music" week! LOL I mean, if we were going with metal bands that make beautiful music, then Alcest would've gotten my vote over NEO.

      They are so much better than opeth already. Opeth died at the same time as Mikael lost his harsh vocals.

    • @jonathanhenderson9422
      @jonathanhenderson9422 2 года назад +1

      @@GregDineen Even if Opeth died when Mikael lost his growls (which I don't agree with, despite not being nearly as enthused by their retro prog phase), Opeth from My Arms Your Hearse to Watershed still is one of the best metal bands that's ever existed, and I don't think anything by NEO has reached that level yet.

    • @VermillionGates
      @VermillionGates 2 года назад +2

      @@jonathanhenderson9422 I dunno man. I also grew up on Opeth stuff in my early teen years, but I think NeO has 1-2 tracks every record that completely wipes anything Opeth ever put out. Even their EPs are amazing. Painters of the Tempest 2, Pyrrhic, Intra Venus, Eyrie, Upon the Tongue of Eloquence and All the Scarlet Tears are all 10/10 tracks with that "wow" factor you're looking for.

    • @guitar_noodle
      @guitar_noodle 2 года назад +2

      Tbh at least for me, I get bored listening to Opeth. After two songs I just want to listen to something else or my attention just dissipates. On the other hand NeO manages to keep my attention the whole time and keeps me excited to hear what’s next. I’m able to listen to their albums from start to finish.
