**"The Screwtape Letters"** by C.S. Lewis is a satirical, epistolary novel that explores themes of temptation, morality, and the nature of good and evil. Here's an overview of the book:
    *Structure and Format*
The novel is written in the form of 31 letters from a senior demon named Screwtape to his nephew, a junior tempter named Wormwood. The letters provide advice and guidance on how to best corrupt a human soul, referred to as "the Patient."
    ~Main Characters
    - **Screwtape**: A high-ranking demon who serves as the mentor and advisor to Wormwood. His letters are filled with cunning strategies and insights into human psychology.
    - **Wormwood**: Screwtape's nephew and an inexperienced tempter, assigned to lead the Patient away from God (referred to as "the Enemy").
    - **The Patient**: A young man who becomes the subject of Wormwood's temptations. Throughout the book, he undergoes various spiritual struggles and growth.
    - **The Enemy**: Refers to God, from the perspective of the demons.
    ~Themes
    1. **Temptation and Sin**: The primary focus is on the various methods demons use to lead humans astray, emphasizing subtlety and gradual corruption over obvious evil.
    2. **Human Nature and Psychology**: Screwtape's letters delve into the complexities of human behavior, emotions, and thought processes, illustrating how these can be exploited.
    3. **Christian Faith and Morality**: The book explores the dynamics of faith, the challenges of maintaining spiritual integrity, and the power of divine grace and love.
    4. **Spiritual Warfare**: The concept of a constant battle between good and evil forces over the soul of every human being is central to the narrative.
    ### Key Points
    - **Subtlety in Temptation**: Screwtape advises Wormwood to use subtle distractions and seemingly minor sins to gradually pull the Patient away from God, rather than obvious and overt temptations.
    - **Human Weaknesses**: The letters frequently discuss exploiting human weaknesses such as pride, gluttony, and vanity.
    - **Role of Suffering**: Screwtape points out that suffering and adversity can either drive a person closer to God or away from Him, depending on how they respond.
    - **Community and Isolation**: The importance of community in strengthening faith is highlighted, as well as the dangers of isolation.
    - **End Game**: The narrative ends with the Patient's death during an air raid in World War II. Despite Wormwood's efforts, the Patient dies a believer and is taken to Heaven, resulting in Screwtape's disappointment and anger.
    ~Style
Lewis uses wit and irony to present theological and moral insights, making complex ideas more accessible and engaging. The inversion of moral values, with demons considering vice as virtue and vice versa, adds a layer of dark humor to the work.
    ~Reception
"The Screwtape Letters" has been praised for its imaginative approach to discussing Christian theology and ethics. It remains one of C.S. Lewis's most popular works, widely read by both religious and secular audiences.
Overall, "The Screwtape Letters" offers profound reflections on the human condition, the nature of evil, and the pursuit of spiritual truth, all wrapped in a clever and entertaining narrative.

Letter 7 is pretty wild. I was raised as a Christian and ran from it as a young adult. Here I am 20 years later and was on the brink of fully embracing the New Age movement and did a 180 turn and am now truly starting my journey as a Christian. Still seems odd to say that. Anyways letter 7 was pretty eye opening.

Same here, peace be with you. I spent 15 thinking that there was no god because how could there be. My mother died when I was so young and she was so young. Which looking back sounds selfish but I forgive myself. Anyhow one night after 58 hours of not sleeping I prayed for the first time since my mother died and asked for help sleeping and to see my mother again and that’s exactly what I got right away. My soul left my body. Time and space were irrelevant. Then I saw a single cell, and heard a voice say “look what I did” and it divided and kept dividing. Then I talked to my mother for the first time in 15 years. Something that I’ve been asking for in vain for a long time. All I had to do was let go and ask out of a place of love and need instead of anger and resentment.

Millions are embracing New Age. I believe this is one example of the end times satanic religion. But more specifically, the new satanic religion, that Anton LeVay predicts, I believe can be found in many pagan religions, and it is the religion of being good enough in and of yourself.

Everything CS Lewis wrote is amazing. But something that strikes me as exactly spot on and is so relevant today is to show such kindness and care to faceless strangers while being a jerk to those in your everyday life. I see this being played out all the time. Right now we are seeing these protests on college campuses where some of the students are just going nuts “caring” so much about Gaza meanwhile they are screaming hate speech at their fellow Jewish students?!? This is exactly what CS Lewis meant.

I liked reading "The Screwtape Letters" written by C. S. Lewis. Now I can take it as a compliment if any Wormwood type physician ever threatens me with being put away in an insane asylum for the rest of my life only because he didn't like a poem I wrote only because he is cynical and being very determined to prove himself superior to his teacher so he could maybe devour another church by devouring its foundation through its roots.

That’s just…not true though. There’s really no mention at all of the medieval/modern conception of Satan in the bible. In the book of Job some modern English translations use the word Satan to describe the member of gods counsel called the accuser in Hebrew. The idea of an evil anti-Christ version of Satan is modern non biblical conception.

    • @1Corinthians15_1-4
      @1Corinthians15_1-4 6 месяцев назад

That is not true. The k j bible has become into satanic scriptures (Amos 8:11-12). The devil says that God is a jealous God, this is not true at all. God is very protective, He is not jealous. However, satan is jealous of God and His children (born again believers in The Lord Jesus Christ).

Day 142 of reading the bible this year. Really not helping me in a spiritual way. Growing to dislike god more and more. I look up articles to try to delve deeper and get context but it doesn’t help. It all just seems like too much of a stretch to believe this being, this creator, to be benevolent and loving.

Hey friend, not sure what book you started reading with in the Bible.. It’s recommend you start with the New Testament (or else the beginning will frustrate or confuse you). With the New Testament, I would recommend starting in the book of John, then James, then Roman’s etc.
there’s plenty of videos on RUclips for beginners but some tips that I can tell you is to first start on the New Testament. Another tip is to Pray before you start reading the Bible. The Bible is completely new to you and with all our pride in our hearts we expect to understand every word and so when something doesn’t make sense we get confused and want to throw in the towel. we cannot expect out finite minds to understand unless we humble ourselves and ask God to show us His glory through His Word, to bring you revelation while reading, to help you understand. Another tip while reading is come in with the mentality of “What is God trying to show me about Himself?”. Often times people read the Bible like it’s a regular book and get confused or “turned off”. Or another mistake is that they will read it from their own eyes instead of from God’s perspective, He is the author of His book, it’s not about your interpretation but what he is trying to reveal to you about Himself. Ask yourself while reading … what is He trying to tell me? What is He trying to reveal to me about His character? Etc
Don’t let the devil trick you into giving up on the Bible. Another downfall from people starting out reading the Bible is their PRIDE. Ohhhh how low key and destructive is our pride. Always getting in our way from accepting the truth of God, making us offended and frustrated to the point we think that God is the problem and “this is dumb”. Oh how the devil dances when he get us to think like this towards God. Our sins and pride make us blind and hearts heartened towards God and ahis word. We are always the problem, not God. Humble yourself and pray for understanding and guidance. Before Jesus ascended to the Father, He left us the Holy Spirit as an Advocate and Helper. Invite the Holy Spirit into your quiet Bible time.
Don’t give up on your walk with God.
He didn’t give up when things got hard for Him on the cross. He kept on.. until death for you.

@@Ruth_1_16 Hi, It isn’t the very first time I’ve delved into the bible, I’m 59. It’s the first time I have committed to reading the whole entire thing which I think all Christians should. If they haven’t been through the fire that is the bible and come out the other end a believe and advocate of Yahweh then they aught not call themselves Christians in my view. I will keep up the reading as I would like to end up as a Christian believer (always have been in a way though very disappointed with the whole experience sadly). The thematic reading program I am using does take you chronologically through the Old Testament but also delves into related books from parts of the bible such as gospels, psalms, proverbs etc. I have also prayed for understanding 🤷🏼‍♀️ Can you tell me what god was trying to tell me about himself when (apart from the many atrocities he has Israel inflict on other people, men, women, children, suckling babies and animals by the hundreds of thousands) apart from all that, he also orders Isreal to hamstrings a peoples horses, despite having killed all the people so who’s escaping? I read that, I cried for 2 days, I implored to know why. Why not just kill those poor innocent creatures rather than inflict the most horrible pain? Can you ask for me? I look forward to a plausible answer. Thank you for reading and responding to my first post.

I think one thing that always helps me is knowing that there is an answer to every question in the Bible.

    • @michaelmichael2121

@@MsDamosmum I believe that the pathway The Lord led the Israelis was to ensure that Jesus Christ could be born into this world. Satan was trying his best to prevent this by using the enemies of the Israeli people.
Without the birth, life death and resurrection of Jesus we would all be lost. If there was damage God deals with everyone whoever lived fairly and justly according to His everlasting and unchanging word AND their activities according to His word. God is infallible. True understanding of The Bible will only reinforce this truth.
And don't forget that true benevolence must be see through the truth of our eternal soul's fate, not by what happens in the transient few years we have on this earth.
Many times bad things happen for a good reason, i.e. bad things on this earth which is only a transient illusion for a good thing in the true reality which is The Eternal Realm-an eternal realm which the human condition prevents us from fully understanding.
The Old Testament is largely descriptive of human behaviour whilst the New Testament is prescriptive though the teaching and life of Our Saviour Jesus Christ.
You have to remember that God tries to tell us about himself purely through what Jesus Christ did and what Jesus said, both of which are perfectly consistent with each other.
Jesus told us to love our fellow man, to forgive and to behave in correspondence to those sentiments.
When we submit to His will and do these things will will be given all the wisdom and peace and fulfilment to not only do them better but to love God himself above all.
This happens because when we see the Lord through our forgiveness and selfless love of others, The Lord will fill us with his Holy Spirit which removes the veil of misunderstanding, confusion and mis-interpretation from which many of us suffer and which keeps us away from Our Lord and our place, with Him.
I think that C.S Lewis is a great teacher and what I've picked up from him is that we come to God through Christ by our actions not our intentions.
After all someone once said that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
What I write is out of humility and limited understanding but I sincerely hope that it can help you draw closer to God. Ultimately only humility can bring us to where we belong.
We belong with God but I fear ending up in a place I wasn't designed to be.
Sometimes even fear can drive us in the right direction.

@@MsDamosmumit's a huge macro story, over 6000 years, describing many differences in cultures and beliefs. We have to come to the point of trust God requires of our soul, even in the face of the stumbling blocks. If these are studied in their historical context, usually warning against disobedience, it helps us to see the macro, whereas the NT is a road map of the micro😊
