Thank you for posting this. 30 years, this video has haunted the dark corners of my brain. I can finally watch it again and close that chapter of my life.
me 2, I have had no idea what this was called, another one that is in doing that as well, looks like to be an hourglass, a bunch of brown round like guys tumbling and screaming then they stack up on top of each other and it starts again.
Remembering back when this used to play after old 90s Nickelodeon shows, this is an early example that showed children how karma can get to you when you least expect it.
I was listening to a pop quiz on the radio earlier and found out that the title of Paul Simons 'mother and child reunion' came from the name of a chicken and egg dish on the menu of a chinese restaurant, an hour later I'm listening to a podcast that mentioned this animation and I had to come and check it out.
When I was little, my sister and I used to pile up pillows and couch cushions between the wall and the end of the couch and then we'd re-enact this scene verbatim. One on the inside reciting the lines and one on the outside ready to push the makeshift "walls" down. We'd switch back and forth until we were sick of it or became distracted by something else.
When I first saw this as a kid, I thought it was great and I couldn't help but wonder if the egg the guy crushed had crushed another egg and so on and so on
Nickelodeon used to play this very very early in the morning like between like 5 and 6 in the early 90s. Totally at random. Imagine you’re a kid waking up when it’s still dark outside , running downstairs to turn in the tv while everyone else is still asleep. And alone, in the dark, without warning or context, this comes on. Creepy lol
You have to wonder what's wrong with this guy. "Wow, I've discovered a tiny talking entity! Should I share this knowledge with the world? Nah, I'll just massacre the evidence. And ruin my breakfast." And that's before he fails to notice the parallels.
Suffering's fun if it isn't you, then it's terrifying. If anything this little viddy is about empathy. I remember it vividly from Nick and MTV years back.
I used to always love seeing this is a kid. It was like a special treat that was only on sometimes. Also, I never understood why the egg guy has an Italian accent. lol
Been looking for this for yeeeears!! only one other person i know understands the "hey a who ees it? i'm a comin!" bahahaha! i was beginning to think i dreamed the whole thing lol
I definitely remember this disturbing me when I was kid. But I also kind of loved it too. I loved the way spoon sounded on the egg, the way the house crunches inward, that nightmarishly grey scene that shows the outside of the house, yellow asscrack! I can't believe I'd forgotten about this until now.
This scared the beejeebies out of me when I was a kid. I always changed the channel whenever it came on. I am so glad to see I'm not the only one who was freaked out by it.
@@beauwalker9820 I do as well. I very vaguely remember a short animated short that was an hour glass with the sands of grains being alive and they were screaming. I do not know if there was a Nickelodeon or on some of the channel but that animated short it's stuck in my brain and it's driving me nuts
For some reason this was on Nickelodeon one year in my childhood. It terrified me and has taken up space in my scarred memory. It frightened me so totally.
I was just thinking about that. Everybody would just throw a hissy fit about and complain that it "promotes violence", "it's offensive to eggs (sarcasm)", etc.
I remember seeing this on American television when I was a kid. Instead of a million commercials, they used to have short animations in between shows. This was one of them. For years I didn't know what it was called until now, thanks for sharing.
Man, after close to 30 years, I finally found this! I remember seeing this on Nickelodeon way back in the very early 90s and it's popped in my head on occasion leaving me always wishing I could remember what it was called. Now here we are!
This was my pinwheel clockman for years. I used to wonder if this was real or just something made up in my dreams from my early childhood. I finally found this video about 2 years ago and always rewatch it every few months. Not nearly as creepy as I remember but there is something kind of disturbing about it
I remember seeing this in Greece 25 years ago. It was so obscured in my little child mind that it became nightmare fuel to keep me up at night on several occasions. I'm glad to be able to see it today as a story of karma and irony.
I remember this cartoon well. The phrase “Hey, a-watch it!” has stuck with me for years, since I first saw this. Neat if somewhat unsettling cartoon, lol.
Why is this so very familiar. Was this part of the insanity that was Nickelodeon during the 80s or 90s? Been hiding in my brain for decades, only to be brought out now.
The memory of this cartoon randomly popped into my brain while I was cracking open an egg, I never realized as a kid how messed up it was, but the second I remembered it nearly 3 decades later the only way I was able to describe it to my partner was "that really fucked up cartoon about a guy cracking open an egg."
I remember this one and the called dog brain when the dog is sleeping and also the one with the cat with the song the cat came back the very next day.. there’s another one with a creepy looking girl talking or something but can’t find it it was a cartoon but it was odd and a short but they played it a lot of Nickelodeon like this An the others I mentioned as well in the early 90s
I seem to remember this being on Nickelodeon back in the 80s/90s, and I still have no idea WHY it was. It was during the era when the black dude with the bee pen was hosting the 'younger' audience timeslots.
i've been looking for this forever. and like everyone else it creeped me the fuck out as a kid. id always hide or look away when it would show on a short on Nickolodeon.
I never thought I would see this again! I just remember him praying in the beginning of the video. I saw this so young and didn't know the concept of it. I might remember the "snowing" part... Still creepy. Thanks a lot, Nickelodeon and Paul Driessen :P
25 years since I've seen this... add the ones from International Rocketship Limited and Lamb Perlman's sports cartoons... I think I'm really satisfied with the treasures I've seen.
My wife was talking about how British people eat boiled eggs by putting them in egg holders and eating them with a spoon. It's like she woke up a part of my brain because I immediately remembered this video even though I had completely forgotten it ever existed. Man I miss old school nickelodeon lol
I'm sure on liquid tv version where I first saw this, I don't recall him saying grace before eating his egg at the beginning. Perhaps saying grace isn't something they want to promote at liquid tv so that bit got cut.
I saw this when I was a kid (im 25 now) i remembered the scene as in what happened and the concept but I completely forgot the yellow and seeing it again I just now got that he's the yoke being all round and yellow. At the time I first saw it I just thought he was some guy who did unto others and others did it unto him, This short and Your Face by Bill Plympton stuck with me in the back of my mind for a couple decades now until I googled a description of them both one night out of the blue.
I had been searching for this, or anyone who vaguely remembered it, for years. I started to think that my sister and I had invented it in our imaginations. This makes me happy.
Holy crap, I haven't seen this since I was a wee lad, prolly around late 80s, I think. Weird cartoon, but it remained in the trenches of me brain since then... 👻
@RatheSunGod001 But guess what? If he hadn't been so merciless in killing the egg, he wouldn't have died himself. It was his own actions which killed him. He thought it was only a good joke--but the very violence he delighted in, killed him exactly sixty-four seconds later. As soon as he smashed the egg for the final time, he made his own death inevitable--because it had already happened. He was his own victim--and never realized it. OH THE IRONY!
Damn.... this takes me back. I always thought this cartoon was completely screwed up and twisted.... Now that I see it 10 or 15 years later..... it's still pretty screwed up and twisted....

+twist58 Glad I'm not the only one who picked up on that!
The Karma never seemed to register because the dude never realized the irony.
I remember this, and it always unsettled me when it came on
How many years has this haunted me and I just now realized his body is a yolk?
😮 [mind blown]
This is the first time I noticed after years of the occasional rewatch. Should have seen this comment sooner!
I kinda noticed as a kid he kinda looked that way.
I just watched this for probably the first time in over 20 years and I was like holy shit he's a yolk

I like how the yellow colouring with the white frame foreshadows the outcome.

Me too! I interpreted it like that too. Especially, because his yellow body/outfit looks like a yolk.
For whatever reason, the memory of this popped into my head last night. This always freaked me out.
It's nice to come to a place of solidarity and meet other people who were haunted by this as a child.
I oddly loved it as a kid. Even had it recorded on VCR.
This was apparently what made Stephen Hillenberg want to become an animator. Witnessing history!

Good to see that I wasn't the only person who Nickelodeon traumatized as a kid in the late 80's/early 90's.

And also how playful he is when he decides he's just gonna crush it 😂 Similar uneasy laughter vibes 😳
I can't believe I had the audacity to be nostalgic for things 12 years ago. I wanna bully this naive child.

Remember seeing this on Nickelodeon! Doesn't seem too kid friendly haha
For some reason this was on Nickelodeon one year in my childhood. It terrified me and has taken up space in my scarred memory. It frightened me so totally.
I Remember Seeing This on MTV! Ya Know, Back when it WAS a Music Television Network!
Was it during the "liquid television" program?
Mostly music except for when it wasn't. 😉
Nickelodeon used to play this at intervals. Can you IMAGINE the furor it would raise today?
I was just thinking about that. Everybody would just throw a hissy fit about and complain that it "promotes violence", "it's offensive to eggs (sarcasm)", etc.
Parents would go on strike lol. Bunch of softies these days!

Heh, yeah... At the time, the reason you paid for cable was so you wouldn't have to watch commercials! How things have changed...
I remember seeing this on the HBO 'short takes' along with other shit that damaged my childhood. That's why I'm fucked up NOW
I remember seeing this in the late 80s and it freaked me the fuck out, but in a good way.
