The Executioner past his prime but still on top form! When Bernard Hopkins lost a decision to Joe Calzaghe many fans and experts wrote him off but he proved all of the doubters wrong when in his next fight he absolutely schooled the undefeated 34-0 Kelly Pavlik in one of his finest performances. Hopkins' defense and accuracy were exceptional on this night and Pavlik simply stood no chance. What he was able to do at 43 years old in this fight was nothing short of incredible. Guys like Hopkins and Foreman remind that age isn’t a death sentence. I’m 32 and sometimes think I’m “older” (lol) but watching Hopkins and Foreman fight into their 40’s is so motivational for me.
It was Bernard's discipline that played a significant role, even at his old age. His clean diet, maintained even outside of training camp, was crucial. He never took a drink or ate anything remotely unhealthy. But Foreman had many genetic gifts, including his strong chin, immense power, and large size.
You finally released it! Many call his fight against Trinidad his greatest performance when imo this is his best. Trinidad was coming up a bunch of weight classes but here in this fight Bernard at a even older age and against a arguably bigger opponent completely shut out his opponent
Bernard showed just how integral to the game that true skill and effort are. This is the kind of shit that shows how capable we can be if we keep our mind and bodies in shape as we age.
Hopkins showed how far skill can take you if you take care of your body and do everything to maintain it. He never drank, smoked, ate fast food, wouldn't even drink seltzer because he worried it would lead to him getting hooked on soda. He'd rest up for a week and get back to training when other fighters would be partying for a whole month. Hopkins mastered self care and preservation.
God I miss HBO boxing. This crew really understood Hopkins, and his quality - the calls of his fights were so appreciative of his skills and his efforts. This is a great edit, thank you for the work.
@Mitch_Feral Max wasn't perfect, but his passion for boxing couldn't be faked. He lives for the sport and even when he was just the kid put on commentary to entice younger viewers knew his stuff.
@fantasyboxing71 it was still a tough and close fight. It's not like Calzaghe styled on Hopkins the way he did guys like Lacy or Kessler. Hopkins and Calzaghe pushed each other to their limits.
@@fantasyboxing71So he doesn't deserve credit for his best wins🤷🏾♂️, you do know that if you don't give Hopkins his props then you mean to say that Calzaghe beat a bum that night, right🤷🏾♂️??
I saw this fight as a kid and only knew Hopkins through the Knockout Kings games. I felt like the only one besides B-Hop who thought he'd beat Pavlik. My dad knew Hopkins was great, but he thought Pavlik would kill him given Hopkins was 43. He was surprised at how great Hopkins looked at that age.
@@drinfernodds Yea. He had a mindset that most of us strive to have. Hopefully I can be fit and able to move the way he does for his age. Keep being GREAT man! Hope blessings come your way.
I dont think Ive ever seen someone more completely defeated than Pavlik was in this fight; and when Hop comes up at the end, and does the 'you did a good job' bit? I think it broke Kelly. He only fought 3 more 12s in his career, and sort of just faded away. This fight by Hopkins is one of the most complete bouts anyone has ever fought. He annihilated him.
Pavlik got out the game at the right time. Dude still has his brains, and also was smart with his money. He's always represented Youngstown well. Now he is a promoter, there.
Although I couldn't stomach the man's character and he beat up my guy Tito, I could totally respect his ability as a fighter, so much so, that if I could of chosen to box like anybody on the planet it would have been in the same style as Hopkins. His run at LHW was the stuff of legends.
Unfortunately the general media only started focusing on how great a champ Hopkins was after he defeated Felix Trinidad back on 2001. The problem with that was Bernard was already 35 years old, he had other more impressive performances under his belt by then, such as the the first fight with the hard hitting Antwun Echols & the then undefeated challenger Glen Johnson. ruclips.net/video/vGuApmdZy8U/видео.html
no natural talent but had skills and fundamentals which made him good but not great which is where compensation for just being average was his dirty tactics and without all the dirty stuff he wouldn't be nothing
Completely disrespectful...you don't dominate the middleweight division for years then move up to light heavy well past your prime and beat the next generation of up-and-comers by being an average, dirty fighter
@@deduderi5795It’s probably a troll comment. No average Joe can just dominate a weight division like Hopkins, he’s just rage baiting you by making a laughable post.

Roberto Duran vs Davey Moore when he was 5-2 underdog by oddsmakers or Winky Wright vs Tito Trinidad! love this vids btw
It’s hard to believe he learned how to box at age 20

Bro lol you’re only 32 relax you ain’t old
32 is not old. Why have people been thinking that being in your 30s is ancient nowadays
Watch Roberto Duran too.

Great one of his best wins I think pavlik had just beaten Taylor also
Twice, which really added to the feeling that Pavlik would tear through Hopkins since he'd lost to Taylor twice and also a close loss to Calzaghe.
Actually Hopkins really won both them fights against Taylor
