Pandit Tejendra plays without those plastic stick-on nails, which I really appreciate as they change the sound and the plastic tends to click on the fingerboard. Apart from this technical detail I love this raag and the playing is superb.
Lovely performance and recording! Does anyone else feel as though the stereo panning of the two tabla pieces subtracts from the performance? It is hard to hear the tabla as one instrument when it has been mixed with half in each ear.
The mic used is a stereo mic We are very much used to hear the tabla as a mono instrument and that’s the way it needs to be Stereo works sometimes but most of the time the mono imaging is suitable
The best aspect I noted was Tejendra maintained the separate "identity" of TilakKamod - the gat...emebellishments were distinct..not much Overlap with Desh - also the MadhyaLaya Tintaal selection was appropriate suiting to the Raaga tethos
Pandit Shubhankar Ghosh is in the audience. He is no more with us. It has been around two years since he left for his heavenly abode. So definitely older than that.
Tejendra Narayan ji has played many quality pieces of music but this was not his best concert. It would seem that he is just not in the right frame of mind here. 😔
