They are VERY protective of their owner and will let you know it. They are my favorite breed of dog and I have a plush toy one that looks really believable.
I had a chow mix german shepard, Momma was a german shepard farm dog. I grabbed the only girly in the liter and named her coach. She was a protector and she loved to hunt! She was an outside dog loved her independence. She was raised on acres of land and would roam for hours then make her way back home every night. The chow barking here reminds me of her lol She lived almost 20 years, and practically grew up with me! I got her at 4 years old (Crazy!) Unfortunately we had to put her down for health reasons... Miss her everyday
People have confused aggression with protection. Chow chows were bred to be guard dogs thats what they do and if you don't want a protective dog don't get a chow.
True…especially they weren’t socialised enough in early days. The chows is VERY vigilant about everything that goes into the property, and willing to fight a bear if one chooses to enter the yard. Loyalty to the family is everything about their personality.
Wel...one just came into my yard and has been growling at my family and I not letting us come out So Idk who hes protecting in my yard, but animal control is on the way thankfully
I miss my boy. I grew up with a lot of different dogs. I read every book I could find on them. My chow went to college with me as a puppy. We spent the next 7 years traveling and living together. I was living back at my parents' house when I decided to move into an apartment with my then girlfriend. Unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to come along. He spent his last 5.5 years on 14 acres in rural Pennsylvania with my parents. I only live about 25 minutes away, so it was easy to visit. Even once my girlfriend and I could take him again, it wasn't worth it. He'd been with my parents for about 3.5 years, and his arthritis was getting worse. My mother has sworn off getting another dog "unless it's just like him." He never snapped at another dog who aggravated him. He just had a very stern bark that did the trick. He loved the cats and would even lick them as they layed against him. He wasn't that fond of being pet, but he loved a good back scratch/massage as he got older. He loved being the sentinel, always watching and scanning. His feet might not have moved much, but his eyes were always following something. I'll never forget him. My "then girlfriend" is now my wife and gave me a beautiful memorial plaque for him.
Chows are very protective but not really the biting type. Mine only barked when there was a doorbell ring or knock on the door. People would be scared and I had to explain how they panic easily but once they give you a sniff and you invite the person in, they just go lay back down lol
Some do bite. My neighbors had a black one and a cream one. The cream coat one was super laid back and not interested in you really but the black one was so aggressive and so mean that if they ever got out of the enclosure the whole block was notified. It was because the dog would attack anyone that wasn't immediate family. It was scary. I had to walk past there house after school and he would try to get you through the fence. 🤷
I have 2 chow chows and they are the best dogs ..but if a stranger comes in my property they turn into very aggressive dogs ..they are not out of control they have a job and they do it very good ..when we leave to go to the store or something we don't need to lock our doors it's in their breed to be very territorial and they will protect their home and I'm good with that !!!!
Bet the owners have no clue who are these dogs related to give u all chow chow a clue one of the deadliest dog breed of the world i own to this chow chows funny looking compare to their true from
They're cute but i hate one thing about them they are not like huskies i mean they're not caring and friendly for toddlers they can bite if they feel insecure about owner or about their own blind spots but Huskies or many other breeds even Kengal Sheppard never bit toddles they have sense of guardian for small family members
@@B6DOGTRAINING I'm not wrong they even have more aggressive nature than rottweiler, you can try petting another dog and compare their behaviour around toddlers
what you put in is what you get back with dogs in regards to training. We train so others can't complain. Only irresponsible people would allow a toddler and dog to interact "to compare behaviours" a kid is not a test subject. If all dogs were trained, there would be 0 issues
@@B6DOGTRAINING you're not wrong about that , but I was talking about their behaviour that's natural instinct, no one is going to test on toddlers, i said that because i had a very bad experience with chow chows , whenever i go somewhere my husky never mistreated or tried to scare a kid or toddler but a chow chow of my friend tried to attack his own family member kid unprovokely and husky was the one to step in and protect their kid....now you're getting why I'm saying that

@@southernbelladonna78 yup, that’s why I said “not ‘really’ the biting type.” I’ve seen some awful chows, but mine was chill. Lol

@@B6DOGTRAINING what I'm saying they are related to a wolf killer
I didn't know that, makes sense.
@@B6DOGTRAINING yea chow chows are killers it runs in their blood line
