- Hi everyone Rho here! Today we're asking the question which Primarch would Russ underestimate in combat? Who of all the Primarch's could give Russ the biggest surprise?
General Spoiler Warning to begin as the events we're discussing today are from across the Warhammer 40,000 universe. So you have been warned!

The Khan would surprise Russ. As Khan said to Fulgrim, the Primarchs know little about him and his abilities, which would give him an edge, as they would underestimate him.
I think in terms of Russ it would make him very careful of Khan rather underestimate him, do not forget his appearance is all but a mask. Knowing of his role he most likely had a plan to take on any primarch
Quite true, but I wonder how many Primarchs actually knew Russ and his style and not the bestial barbarian he played at. It seems not many caught up on his act, perhaps because he was so often alone, like the Khan.
@@Kurogane335 from what I remember that was the entire reason why he acted alone most often for other legions to only get rumours of those barbarians of Fenris rather than to see what they truly were. Probably also a reason why he didn't allow Remembrancers to accompany his legions
@@wilkor7643 he had a plans, but all failed. Even with magnus. But to be fair he had no autority to gather enough forces to actually try and kill magnus.
@@redaerf2b414 He broke Magnus spine and only Chaos saved his ass, no way he could prep for that with Emperor keeping Chaos Gods existence away from the Imperium, he did what he wanted against Angron, to bad Angron was to stupid and angry to realise it. And then he technically won fight against Horus and dealt him a mortal wound just loosing out of love to his brother so which of this plans failed?
Clearly his greatest challenge would come when he has to fill out the form to request the documents needed to file the challenge of duel against Guilliman. Somewhere in the middle of line 378 of form 1038 B Alpharius would take the opportunity and kill steal Guilliman. Russ would of course sense the ambush....and all the documents got scattered and damaged in the fight....and now he has to file the form to request a second chance to re file a request to fight G-man.
Don't forget that he has to use the VERMILLION form, not the yellow form, and that the line starts in the Aqua area, not the blue area. Not to mention that they shut for 3 hours for lunch and only open back up at 3pm, then closing at 3:30. Plus there's the fact that it has to be returned in 14 business days, not 2 weeks.
VERY clearly stated and concise. How on earth could anyone mix them up?
@@benstarbuck2425 The forms have to be filed out in triplicate.
Don't forget, it has to be filled out in blue ink as an anti-forgery precaution.
@@justinbruck9602 um.....it can't just be ANY blue, it has to be ULTRA blue. Duh! And Rubmeoff Gorillaman will DEFINITELY know if it's ultra blue or just regular blue.
And we’re all forgetting submitting these forms may take 7 to 10 business years as warp mail can take very long or may have to be resent
The Lion has more pure skill, but then, Russ knew to never underestimate him.
He's also not afraid to fight dirty.
Russ did underestimate the Lion however, since Russ thought he could defeat the Lion as easily as a snap of his fingers..
Nah horus killed sanguini and hes the favorite son of the big E so obviously hes good at everything includes fighting plus hes bald strong
The lion would surprise him more if he was friendly
@@andrewsilver9730 LMAO yeah, The Lion could surprise him by not being a d**k
I actually think that Perti would be a dangerous opponent. The way he dealt with Angron in brutal efficiency defines of setting a style of battle that Russ would struggle with
I agree, Pert would have no qualms about fighting dirty to win.
It depends. Angron fights like a berserker. Russ acts like one. Even Horus suspected the persona Russ shows is facade, such as the fact he learned to speak high gothic within a week.
Angron lost because he couldnt adapt. Russ would have changed his tactics to deal with Perti. But he would be one of his tougher opponents
@@Makorze It would be no doupt a difficult fight for either side, I also don't think that Russ would run into the same trap as Angron. Not so sure about his legion though. The wolves, while one of the strongest, have been shown to be impulsive from time to time such as friendly firing on Dark Angels. Additionally Pert hard carried the Heresy whereas other Legions of both sides struggled.
Perti was and is more of a craftsman and a general/strategist than a duelist. Of course as a primarch he's still immensly strong and skilled fighter, but i don't think he can go against a seasoned duelist like Russ or Fulgrim and have an assured win.
In his duel with Angron he used his knowledge to beat him. Of course he was handicapped in that he was ordered to bring Angron and his legion alive, and he took a lot of beating like a champ, but still it wasn't a pure duel between the two.
I'd say Kurze would have a good chance of giving Russ a hard time. After all Kurze was about to kill the Lion (in their first duel) but the Lion's guard intervened.
Corax.
Because who was the last person Russ was expecting to show up and save his behind? The Raven.
Especially current(ish) Corax, who has embraced the Warp
@@graventhered the Wolf is somewhere in said warp, why couldn't the Raven come to his aid once again.
@@codysing1223 I would really like to read that book.
@@codysing1223Wolf and Raven have very deep Norse symbology soooo
The first names that came to mind were definitely Corax and Khan.
Magnus should beat Russ 9/10. I mean, Magnus should beat any Primarch (except for Chaos infused Horus) almost every time.
@@Niall001 It really doesn’t make sense how that isn’t the case. Magnus could just Control+alt+delete
I say Vulkan if he's pissed off and not holding back...
@@Niall001surely there’s some primarchs who have natural defence against warp powers.
@@TandJgaming Not really. I mean it's hard to have a defense against someone who can drop an asteroid on your head, teleport you on to a different plane of existence or send you back in time.
These are extreme examples but while some might have resistance to being corrupted by the warp, mind reading etc., that only goes so far.
Corax, hands down. Maybe Vulkan as well since he held back so much.
i agree whit corax he is almost unique in armament and skill and dont forget the Lion :)
@@nemanjalukic6087 I don't think Russ wold underestimate the Lion. I think he would have a great deal of respect for the Lion's skills both as a swordsman and as a general.
Corax? Gonna smack him and run away and write a sad poem about it?
Jaghatai Khan. He never boasted. Never shown off. Never told anyone what he was capable of.
AND HE FAST ASF BOI!!!!
Alpharius Omegon. He already dismissed Alpharius as a threat. That, right there, shows the hubris that would make him lose.
Well said! I wish we would get a wonder twins dual beat down in the lore against a cool baddie
It was not primarch that surprised russ, but a legion. I think alpharius or omegon have zero chances to surprise russ in personal combat.
@@redaerf2b414 Either of them alone would surely lose. The both of them might have a chance, especially if Russ was unaware of the existence of Omegon right up until he gets backstabbed. But neither of them should be stupid enough to actually go against Russ at all, it is just not Alpha Legion style to let the outcome of a war come down to a single 1v1 duel.
@Wander Hillen
Agreed, which is why guilliman is severely underrated in this regard as well. We all seem to forget that Robute is one of the most gifted tacticians the galaxy has ever seen. Why would he fight Russ? I don't think it would be overly hard for Robute to devise a trap for Russ.
It's like debating which superhero could defeat another. The answer will always be dependant on who is writing it and what serves their plot.
That answer is completely correct but incredibly boring lol it is interesting for me to see how others interpret the lore, I tend to agree with rho on most things but it's always fun to view the lore through a different prospective
Thank you for pointing that out Alexi I had no idea. Who would have thought theoretical questions about science fiction characters didn't have a correct answer
Agreed 👍🏻
look, we ALL know Batman would beat Russ!
Well said.
The Lion does not get the respect he has earned, but then again, loyalty is its own reward.
The marker of the Dark Angels. To do extraordinary feats, without the recognition of doing them.
That is why we are the 1st.
The Nighthaunter. I believe he's the most dangerous primarch other than what Corvus 's recent form.
I think the Lion might give him a run: firstly we know he is one of the better fighters with experience against the intelligent beasts of Caliban (might offset some of Russ's advantages) and second we know he had access to archeotech that the other legions weren't even allowed knowledge of. There is a reason he was specifically kept out of the heresy, with minimal conflict, something that wasn't done for any other Primarch
And he knocked Russ clean out with a punch. Straight up knocked him out.
Russ had lost the duel to the Lion - Russ says so himself in his own primarch novel - and that was prior to the punch that knocked out Russ. When the Lion disarmed him and didn't follow through with his attack thinking that Russ would recognise that. Russ being Russ and always doing the wrong thing kept pushing on... and that makes the Wolves think that their primarch actually 'won' (by holding back one punch and laughing - again Russ himselves says otherwise).
One could therefore argue that he wouldn't be surprised by the Lion... he knew Jonson was at the least a match.
Gman? Literally had 2 legions sent to keep him busy/kill him.
Russ might have lost on purpose. Maybe Russ was smart enough to never show more than he needed too. Possible that he just wanted to get a feeling for all the primarchs,in case he needed to execute them in the future.
@@ralphllivrah9551 the book is clear and told from Russ's perspective. He didn't lose on purpose because he already lost control of himself and only regained it in the end when he hold back the punch. Would the lion had taken the duel as seriously in the initial phase, Russ would be dead.
I think that the canis helix gives Russ and his sons a reactive mutation. Sort of like a non-Newtonian fluid, the harder you push, the more solid it becomes. The harder Russ or the wolves fight, the more the canis helix kicks in. If Russ could continue fighting, his “superpower” would allow him to adapt to counter whomever he was fighting.
I’m of the mind Russ can go full on oozaru form if pushed to a “limit”…
Logar could take Sanguinious? Havent seen a take this hot since templin said cannon was dead.
LMAO!!!
Alpharius (it’s his specialty, isn’t it), the Khan (cause he is unpredictable), Curze (cause he is completely batshit) and probably Corax, that sneaky bird.
I came here to simp for sanguineous
The angel of course
Given Russ' nature, his natural belief in his own abilities, it seems likely that there are several Primarchs he would underestimate.
Prior to the Heresy I think there was one of the Traitors that he may well underestimate, which is Mortarian. He, like another Loyalist Primarch I'll come to in a bit, kept himself and his abilities hidden. He is the one Traitor I think Russ might have underestimated before the Heresy. After the Heresy, he wouldn't underestimate Mortarian either.
As for the Loyalists, there are three he would likely underestimate in my opinion. The first is The Khan. Like Mortarian, he never allowed his brothers to know his full abilities, and there was a mutual abrasive relationship which I think might cause Russ to underestimate the Khan.
Secondly, Vulkan. He would respect his strength and power, but it is highly unlikely he would be aware of his Perpetual nature, and would be unkillable, even for Russ.
Thirdly, Corax. The Ravenlord and Russ were close, but I don't believe Russ ever really knew how much of a beast Corax is in combat, and now that he has embraced the warp spaghetti inside him and can transform himself into a Raven Daemon Warp God type thing. An ascended Lorgar is absolutely terrified of Corax now, I think Russ would have underestimated Corax.
In my headcanon, Russ and Corax meet in the warp and Russ rages over the thing that Corax has become, calling it malficarum, calling him a traitor and a monster and weak and a million other things. Only then are we given a description of Russ as a 20 foot tall wolfman with 4 arms and two extra heads growing out of his neck.
Russ has been explicitly stated to have the ability to read the weaknesses of those he looks at, this idea that you think he underestimates people shows you fundamentally dont understand the character.
@@happydisaster6703 And yet he underestimated Horus in their confrontation, despite this ability.
@@MrDarkweaver when did Russ ever undersestimate Horus? He literally says that he could die against Horus. The whole fight was essentially Russ sacrificing himself so he could get a stab into Horus, nothing about it implied he underestimated him. Did you even read wolfsbane?
Lorgar at the height of the Heresy would have skinned Russ's backside, powerful enough to put a demon possesed Fulgrim on his knees. His psychic power, and blessings would have been soemthign else.
Also, Perty beat the shit out of Angron. I think he would be able to do a similar thing to Leman, because his greatest weapons is that eveyone underestimates him.
Lorgar? LORGAR??? Malcadors old ass shrugged off his best strike. Leman Russ would fold him like a deck chair mate
@@banneduser5187 Malcador can spit planets into the warp, he is a walking exterminated. Lorgar during the siege is a beast also, and Leman would and did underestimate him. That is Leman greatest weakness, much like Magnus, hubris.
It is actually impossible to underestimate Lorgar.
Lorgar is a lil bitch who would lose to a 10 year old girl.
See? Tried my best to underestimate him and still failed, he would lose to a 10 year old girl.
@@rosstully5960 Yeah, underestimate the guy capable of summoning entire armies of demons, bitch slap a demon-possessed primarch, and engulf the entirety of Ultramas, 500 worlds, in a MASSIVE Warp storm, and survive two shoots from a Warhound plasma annihilator. And he got no mercy to hold himself back against Russ.
That, and the fucker has enough charisma to turn entire planets with a mere speech. Look, I HATE Lorgar, but I do not underestimate the bastard, especially at the height of the Heresy.
Russ is a terrible match up for Lorgar. Russ famously has extremely powerful anti-psyker abilities (Lorgar's main strength) and is a monster in close combat (the area Lorgar is weakest in).
Magnus can show him detachable finger trick. Probably will be surprise.
Russ would then surprise Magnus with the detachable spinal chord trick.
@@Liethen lol
@Liethen keep in mind that he was able to do that trick because he had massive back up from the Sister of Silence and the Custodies. The question can he pull the same trick if they were there especially considering that the Sister of Silence were there for the exact reason to counter Magnus psychic energy
@@ericmacrae6871 Magnus definately would have given Russ a hell of a time, problem is Magnus was ment to fall because you know Tzeench and plot armor.
In a equal fight Magnus had the tools to make it.
The Lion surprised him before..and knocked his armored posterior in the dust. The Lion also could turn his attacks so fast in midstrike that he could out pace the foresight of the Nighthaunter..
There is a reason he is the Emperor's "exterminator".
Only after Russ stopped defending himself.
Let's not forget the Lion had to to have his life saved from Curze twice and was made a fool of for months on his own ship, to the point he was too embarrassed to tell Roboute.
I hope Corax comes back next. 🙏
So do I but it’s not gonna happen 😢
Fulgrim.
Russ would see him as a harmless, spoiled dandy that's all talk, rather than the whirlwind of death that he truly is.
The underestimation goes both ways though. Fulgrim would see Russ as a mindless savage, rather than the whirlwind of death that he truly is.
@@wanderhillen2435 That just makes it more interesting! :D
This is a good one! My vote is the Khan, but Im a bit a a Khan fan anyway lol. The white scars are like the other side of the coin of the wolves, and Jaghetai seemed to ve very accepting of his true nature in ways other primarchs railed against, so he would be able to give it 110% where Russ might stop at 100%.
I always wondered if Russ was friends with any of his brothers it would be Jaghatai and maybe Ferrus. All barbarian warrior kings, and Jaghatai was a bit of a loose cannon like Russ.
Corax is a good shout, having never lost to Horus in wrestling, bested Gman in duels, was confident he could have finished off both Lorgar and Kurze on Istavan... But my money would be on Fulgrim just based on his record. I also wouldn't count either Alpharius/Omegon out, misdirection is the counter to instinct, enhanced senses or no.
I mean, the Lion quite literally surprised Russ, since Russ thought he could defeat the Lion as easily as a snap of his fingers, yet Russ lost, twice, in a duel with the Lion.
Yeah I know he's "Wolf Lord Rho" but dang dude, he needs to stop simping so much lol
I love when the Lion nuthuggers gloss over the fact that Russ beat the brakes off of the Lion, and was poised to land a killing blow, when he realized how ridiculous the whole thing was and started laughing. The Lion "won" because Russ was literally laughing too hard to defend himself.
And let's not even act like Lion stabbing Russ under the palace when he refused to fight is winning anything.
@@EvolvedTactical you do realize that the only reason they were fighting is because Russ has the IQ of a toddler, right? "Oh you stole my kill, I'm going to fight you for a whole day before I realized that I'm throwing a temper tantrum like a retard." Meanwhile the Lion was trying to NOT kill his mentally challenged little brother.
@Evolved Tactical and I love how incredibly insecure Russ fans are and the mental gymnastics they all go through to try and make every loss Russ suffers actually be a win. By your failure of a logic, the Lion still won, since he first disarmed Russ and refrained from killing Russ..
@@EvolvedTactical that's a very sceptical version of events
Russ cannot underestimate any because he would beat ALL of them in a fight. Naturally.
Lol, no. He beat only magnus, mostly because magnus was into thatrics and self punishments.
@@redaerf2b414 Magnus should have just telekinetically lifted Russ into orbit and left him there. It's honestly kind of silly when you have a god tier psyker lose to a melee combatant. It's as if a muggle went up to Voldemort with a sword and came out alive.
@@wanderhillen2435 Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah... comparing a primarch to some magic wand packing muppet who cant overpower a schoolkid with glasses is heresy!
Just imagine if Leman has an oozaru form he’s been keeping to himself this entire time, if Corvax can become a warp infused creature of shadow then I don’t see why Leman can’t turn into a giant werewolf…
I wonder if Russ comes back from his trip to the Eye of Terror, if he will be changed like Corax was from spending time in there. It's said about Corax:
"But Corax had been changed as well. Exposure to the energies of the Warp within the Eye of Terror had stripped away the mortal facade the Emperor had bestowed upon His sons, and revealed the true Warp-formed conciousness that lived beneath the surface of every primarch."
So by logic, Russ spending time in the Eye should also have a similar effect. Maybe he can now change into some Demon Wolf form and be even more of a beast.
Hands down Sanguinius is the best 1vs1 Primarch with his showings at the Seige against a favored Greater Deamon of Khorne and then Deamon Primarch Angron amped right after. The other top 4 for me are Lion, Russ, Angron, and Khan. I change the order all the time as they just match up so differently.
Curze doesn't even know what Curze is gonna do next...
Also we need Corax and Sanguinious discussing flight, why had this not happened?
Corax gets no love but he's a beast. Especially now that he's all warpy. Lol
As a Salamanders fanboy, there's no scenario where Vulkan wins, because he is simply incapable of delivering the final blow, and Russ is not like Kurze, he'll keep coming
Russ doesn't keep coming. Russ is a quitter.
It's definitely going to be Dave: Primarch of the Second Legion, in the greatest surprise of all!
Sanguinius by far has the best feats/showings out of all the Primarchs. Being a powerful psyker and being able to naturally fly gives him an advantage that the majority of the Primarchs don’t have.
Russ stated he wasn’t sure he could beat him
A heavily fatigued Sanguinius defeated Demon Angron after he already fought and won against Ka’Bandha.
Horus refereed to Sanguinius as the greatest of the Primarchs
He was able to hold his own against Konrad, Konrad whom: nearly killed Dorn, nearly killed The Lion, fought against The Lion and Roboute at the same time and still held his own
Sanguinius has fought two greater demons at the same time and still won
He somehow defeated a Warlord Titan by himself
He has foresight
I completely agree regarding Corax. I believe if there was a taste for more lore on him I think it would show that he has become the imperium's hunter. That he has now become the one primarch whose sole purpose after having communed in the ravens tower with the emperor is to go into the warp and hunt his disloyal brothers. Starting with Lorgar, then possibly Fulgrim. His style of being the darkness, his fury at istvann and nearly dispatching Lorgar and Curze was amazing and I don't think anyone else could pull that off. He is a hunter now and that's exactly what his legion were, go it, bring the enemy down, leave.
I think a hunter is different from an executioner in that an executioner is going to announce his presence and lay down the law where as a hunter doesn't care, a hunter is there to kill and take a trophy. Russ proved my point by not killing Horus, and I think that wouldn't be the last time that happens but since Istvan I don't think Corax would ever hesitate.
At least that's how I see it. I'd love to see a similar video on Corax, who does he match up against and not? I always think when watching boxing or UFC fights it's not always the best fighter who wins, it's the one who wants it more, who can flip that switch and fight to kill no matter what and that for me is Corax.
Corvus corax and his XIX legion the raven guard have a very Unique Style of Warfare and it's versatile lethal. Being a flexible guerrilla warfare fighter and killing from the shadows is my type war style. Ow and his ability to turn invisible and his armor his jetpack wing are just as deadly as his lightning claws , electric whip and finally his two dual pistols wrath & justice Victorus Aut Mortis (Victory or Death) 🖤☠️
Khan, he is the opposite of Russ when ulit comes to boasting and bragging that you don't know what he's capable of. Doesn't matter if he can win or not, he is an enigma.
Corax was my first thought. As for Vulcan i do not see him putting up a fight if being summoned by the big e for a talk.
In a pure duel or single combat the Angel, the Lion, Angron, Curze & Vulkan would be the ones i SEE wining against the wolf king, Vulkan being the surprise.
But will it be surprise? Russ knew that he cant beat angron, so he made it that angron was surrounded, by wolves and killed even at russ life expence.
@@redaerf2b414 yeah thats why i said pure duel or 1vs1 Vulkan is very underestimable, being a peaceful Nice guy thats why it would be a surprise
I mean after reading Echoes of Eternity, in the vast majority of cases, Sanguinius beats any of the primarchs in a fight. Only one who might have a chance, in a decent share across a 1000 simulations, is Magnus. Other than him, with his magni magic stuff, it’s not going to go well most of the time for the other primarchs. And no, I’m a Khan fan first and foremost. But I’d be deluding myself if I said the Khan could win a good % of fights against Sanguinius.
Sanguinius is the second best psyker( maybe even better sometimes)- primarch btw. He just use it as blessings, not warp changing. Copying the God-Emperor as his best son.
Dorn…….. surprisingly monstrous!
Lol, Dismissing the Khan in one line... The same Khan whose behavior even the emperor couldn't predict... The same Khan who withstood Morti's toxins at the siege and kept smiling... Guess that self same underestimated Khagan will have to surprise his fuzzy brother in combat this time
Corax was the first name that came to mind.
Tha Khan, hands down, he beat a keeper of secrets and beat demon Primarch Mortarion in a test of endurance, and like others had said, his brothers didn't know his capabilities.
Angron would beat Russ in a one on one fight, Corax said that in a one on one fight only Horus and maybe Sanguinius could beat him head on, and although he "let him win" to lead him to a trap, he was still left bloodied, why would he let himself take such a risk just to teach Angron a lesson, Russ couldn't beat the lion in a one on one fight.
Russ was routinely shown to be a poor judge of...well...everything. Yet we have several examples of surprised wolf pikachu face when dealing with his brothers. He had no idea at all about the Khan, misjudged Horus when trying to spear him, had no idea how to react with the Alpha Legion, didnt get Magnus at all, punched in the gob by the Lion after Russ started the fight, and mishandled his confrontation with Angron.
For all some author's attempts to make his brash and brutish actions only a persona or role he plays, Russ routinely acts with zero common sense or self awareness.
It doesnt really count as "ironic" if you do the same actions as if unaware.
So, yeah. Anyone that isn't Dorn or Ferrus Manus i think would surprise Russ, because the Wolf Lord would simply...do as he always does.
Pretty much that. The Space Wolves and Russ don't really appear controlled or outsmarting their opponents in any of their books - at least in any of those I've read.
I think Perturabo. Mostly because he would be smart and not let Russ get close in the 1st place. Only Primarch to not favor close combat
I’m surprised that Ferrus Manus never is brought up in these. Those metal arms are an X factor the emperor never designed. Manus has shattered weapons before with his bare hands. Imagine getting into a brawl with that guy
The reason he is never brought up is because his whole psychology is anger and belligerence. He is a hammer and he smashes things... until a lil demon bitch in a Fulgrim suit chops his head off easy as piss. Angron and Sanguinius lose themselves to their rage and become stronger and faster and tougher, Ferrus, who is always pissed off all the time, gets pissy and gets his head chopped off.
Ferrus is Lorgar tier.
two punches were thrown that day, only one walked away
I always got the impression that pre heresy....Russ liked Logar....not as a fighter but as a brother....he even quoted him in one of the books.
Definitely the 2nd and the 11th they are so mysterious and sneaky no one even knows their names
I think the simple fact that the lion is his rival should indicate that the lion is at least a genuine threat to Russ, I personally put the two on par and could imagine the Conrad fight playing out in a similar way if Russ was the one who fought him
We have the Emperor saying Russ would never betray him, but Vulkin's loyalty is shuch a given that even if the emperor himself had doubts, the rest of us would go "you talking nonsense big E, stop acting cray cray"
People are already commenting their opinions without having watched the video.
Happens all the time, sadly. Before care more about regurgitating their opinions before collecting all the data and evidence.
Corax can surprise Leman as it is his specialty.
I wouldn't say Russ was made to be the executioner necessarily, but due to the Canis Helix his loyalty to the Alpha of the Imperium is unwavering.
The Lion has won a (non lethal) fight against Russ. The Lion is often considered to be the most like the Emperor of all the Primarchs. Aside from personal prowess, Lion El Jonson would likely have the edge due to his access to dark age weaponry that the Emperor didn't even trust the Mechanicum with. He's also arguably equal with Horus with it comes to tactics. ANd besides, what hope does a wolf have when facing a lion?
It's pretty telling that the Lion needed Russ to completely stop defending himself so he could put him down.
@@FoxHound-ut1hu didn't NEED it, he's just a good tactician who knew the best time to strike. Plus who stops a fight to laugh. Silly furry wolf man
I think as far as the surprise goes that would be Corax and the Kahn. As far underestimation goes my votes are for The Lion and Perturabo.
Corax could pop out of a shadow when Russ is sitting on the bog and say "Boo" before disappearing with the toilet roll
love the shoutout to Sharpe!
nearly 25 minutes of Leman Russ flavoured cope! Love it, delivered with excellence by our favourite wolf lord
I think that Ferrus Manus would surprise him, yes he lost against fulgrim but raw power could change the outcome.
The lion all the way
Guilliman. At this point, Robute has more actual combat experience then any other Primarch. He also has enough strategic ability to ensure he goes into any combat with a plan to overcome his opponent.
And Russ would totally underestimate Guilliman.
Hahahhaha more actual combat experience. Hahahah he is a politician
Knocked out by Jonson.
Pummelled by Angron.
Narrowly beat Magnus, saved by pets.
Gutted by Horus.
Needed saving by Corax against Astartes...
I'm not seeing it... 😶
It is The Warhawk.
He beat MORTARION by outlasting him. He literally took everything death could dish out and then said "You all done? My turn." He would not try the same thing with Russ because Russ would go for the throat better than Morty but he would surprise Russ somehow and then end it. The Kahn was one of the fastest Primarchs (With maybe Lion, Konrad, Corvus and Sanguinius) and you add that to his wild unpredictability and he would catch Russ out somehow.
My first thought was Corax, and I see we agree on that.
Corax is a top 5 fighting Primarch in my book. No, he isn’t Sanguinius, Russ, or Fulgrim level, but I would put him up there with Mortarion or the Lion. I think Corax gets underestimated because his abilities are centered on ambushes, trickery, and so forth, plus his biggest Primarch duel was with Lorgar. People think Lorgar is the weakest fighter of the primarchs, so Corax doesn’t get much respect for it. But Corax was fighting in the middle of the dropsite massacre on Isstvan. He was not ambushing but being ambushed. Heavily outnumbered, with multiple traitor legions attacking. Multiple traitor primarchs attacking. His legion getting massacred.
I think that Russ and Lion El are 2 sides of the same coin. Russ is a man pretending to be a beast and Lion El is a beast pretending to be a man (Lion El surviving alone on a death world filled with forests of chaos monsters). I subscribe to the theory that Lion El main original main purpose is to be the weapon against chaos and that might have some overlap with Russ being the executioner. I think I read Russ and Lion El fought for a day and a night (Lexicanum didn't give me a time frame) but unless Russ was sand bagging the fight I think the 2 a pretty equal. As a Lion El fanboy I'd never downplay Russ, I think that Russ and the Lion eventually saw each other a competitive rivals that pushed each other to greater heights.
Defintly would say the Lion needs to be considered. Considering The Lion struggled with Conrad, yeah he and Sanguinius would be a challenge. The Lion's experience in the forests had its own changing affect. The Lion is the counter to the Wolf, the wolf hides behind the beast, the Lion hides the beast. He pretends to be s uterly brilliant and refined knight, but the reality is hidden and switching to a brawl would not be enough. The Lion can win that fight as well.
Technically every Primarch (and even the Emperor) underestimated Lorgar.
"Howdy, do ya have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Chaos Undivided?"
-Lorgar.
LOL
Very true, and one of the most insightful comments I have seen in these videos.

Creates elaborate plan to get *far more* charismatic brother possessed by new daemon friends.
Oh, this is an easy one. The two lost primarchs. They would certainly be a surprise to Russ. Now to watch the vid.
The Lion is just as feral as Russ, if not maybe more so. He is tarzan with a sword after all. Jagetai with his nomadic Kahn background would also be very at home in a dirty wrestle/brawl. Russ maybe could use the brawl tactic well against Fulgrim or Guilliman, but not Jagetai or Lion. The Lion Wolf 2 day battle shows this pretty well.
Vulcan Lives!
I do think Vulcan is slept on because he is kind hearted. And I he had his own victories against one of the two mentioned. He be Conraid Kerrs, after enduring torture on all levels to break him and outsmarted him to escape. With it stated he mentally lured his brother in through verbal taunts to bring it into a close quarters engagement.
He also went on to beat his brother Magus the Red into a broken husk again with his bare hands as it said her had his hands around his neck. So against Russ, I feel Vulcan has more then just being a perpetual going for him. But I also don’t see these two ever having to find out lol. I believe out of ten matches Vulcan has a 5 out ten win rate. Where he would see a mistake his brother Russ thought of only as an inconvenience. That’s right Vulcan can claim the high ground being 9ft tall lmao but I do feel they are more evenly matched because I don’t see Russ just running circles around Vulcan because he enjoys brawling and Vulcan is a brawler himself.
Love the video and Remember
Vulcan Lives !!! 🎉 lmao
A Lions fist that clocks him.
The Khan, Peter Turbo, Morty, and honestly, Fulgrim.
-Khan is a wildcard, has both the tankiness, speed, and skill to pull a victory
-Perturabo wouldnt treat it like a fight, he'd treat it like surgery, and take the Wolf King apart
-Mortarion is extra tanky, and has an aura of weariness that could exhaust Leman well before Russ has dealt enough damage to win.
-Fulgrim is a nigh-unkillable bastard, and despite being a preening little simp, is an excellent swordsman, and could score a win using multiple blades/arms/the gifts of Slaanesh. In daemon form, Russ would lose his size and power advantage.
Hello @Wolf Lord Rho
First things first, I love your videos! 👍🏻
Thank you very much for the time and effort!
Now then for my question, did you ever consider to upload the audio to Spotify?
I would love to just listen to your content while at work or doing chores...
Thanks again W.
My vote goes for Roboute. It was said that many of the other ladies would’ve had trouble defeating ten armed and battle clad Astartes unarmed and unarmored. But Roboute did it with gusto.
Only problem I can see is the whole "overwhelming firepower" thing when it comes to Imperium Nihilus. If they're burning through that much ammunition, could resupply become a problem?
5:00 You forgot to add hug-dispensing to Vulkan's description.
Lorgar...having a snowball's chance in Hell vs Sanguinius?
I didn't realize that weed was that strong in England.
It's not.....We buy Cali strains...😅
figured the most expected answer would be the one he actually lost to.......The Lion
Suckerpunch victory is very dubious at best.
OMGE....THANK YOU MY BATTLE COUSIN!!! I WAS LITERALLY WAITING FOR YOU TO HONOR MY PRIMARCH/ RAVEN DADDY
AS SOON AS YOU SAID.."WHO COULD GIVE THE WOLF KING A BIT OF THE WTF's ???"!!!.
You Do Myself and my Chapter
A GREAT HONOR my friend...
We shall remember this boon
Wolf Lord Rho....The Sons of Corax NEVER FORGET OUR OATHS, HONORS, OR DEBTS....
"VICTORUS AUT MORTIS "
How are you gonna not talk about Magnus in this context? Clearly Russ didn't underestimate him, but it's still worth a second look. The deck was stacked as far in Russ' favor as it could have been; he had his two giant wolf pets fighting with him, they were surrounded by Sisters of Silence who were nerfing Magnus' powers, forcing him to fight completely on Russ' terms (and probably just being very distracting, since the presence of a Pariah causes pain and anxiety for Psykers), and Magnus was simultaneously trying to hold back the Wolves and Custodes around them from reaching the Thousand Sons who were taking refuge in the Pyramid of Photep. And Magnus *still* punched out one of Russ' hearts. I'd call that giving him a surprise.
One on one, no wolves, no null-maidens, no other distractions, Magnus would crush Russ like a beer can. Remember, at the siege of Terra, he telekinetically threw a *sixty-seven thousand ton* tank like a football, while also freezing it in time to stop it from going nuclear. I mean even if Russ is somehow resistant to warp powers, as people speculate, Magnus could just rip the hundred meters of rock that Russ was standing on out of the ground and hurl it into space. Resistance to warp powers cannot stop simple physics.
Gave a like just for the Sharpe reference haha
I disagree on a few points. For one Alpharius was hardly bested "easily" by Dorn and it's pretty evident that he wasn't actively trying to kill his brother during their fateful duel. Similarly, Russ won against Angron. He wasn't trying to win a duel with the Red Angel; he was trying to make a point and in that sense he lost the fight, but won the battle...which was what he was aiming for all along.
Russ is unlikely to _underestimate_ any of the Primarch's he respects, though I do think that he'd underestimate Khan for the same reason that pretty much all of his brothers would. He'd also likely underestimate Corax and we _know_ he underestimates Alpharius.
I think Corax and Russ are close and we don't know it just as wolves and ravens in nature are close. Maybe in the warp the primarchs of Russ and Corax change to what animal they are and can change back to human form
Imagine Russ fully embracing the k9 helix 😎🐺
I think that if Magnus actually got a rematch with the backup with tzeench and the idea of turning him by force might be a cool fight also, I know that sanguinis is dead and has appeared somewhat within the warp, but if khorne got ahold of his body, would he be able to do anything with it necromantic wise or other? Love the content keep up the amazing work
Corax immediately came to my mind.....
I would have to agree with your assessment of Corax. Corax beat gulliman in tatical battle. Corax can beat any other primach tactically but as they learn to fight against him, he does not have sustainment. This is pre hersey, after he learned much and is even more dangerous that he has embraced his warp entity soul he is a beast in combat. Corax has sound tatical knowledge and how best to use his forces and seize advantages. plus he would attempt to trap and take down Russ, as he knows Russ is what makes the space wolves great. You see it in the drop site massacre, he goes for the head of the legions not worry about the small fries. If not for his fear of Conrad, corax proably would have made the traitors pay a heavy price in primarchs.
Hate to say it but I think Guilliman might do a lot better than people would credit him. I'd imagine once he learnt of the Heresy and faced Lorgar, Angron and Konrad he probably devised theoreticals for fighting all of his brothers. We already know Corax beat him a couple of times but Guilliman learnt from it and then beat Corax. If he could study the Wolves and Russ's style I'm sure he'd have a plan.
We already saw the lion (very very closely) defeat Russ with the help of just his superior dueling skills. So imo, the two primarchs, besides the obvious lion and sangi, that I always thought could put up a great fight against Russ are jaghatai and Fulgrim, for two different yet similar reasons.
Both are alluded to be two of the best swordsmen amongst the primarch. In the case of fulgrim, his technique in a 1v1 Dueling scenario would be flawless. If anything I don't think anyone outside of the lion can even match him in terms of sheer technique. And with skill like that, there's a good chance fulgrim could put a sword to Russ' throat before the wolf even manages to turn it into a brawl. In the case of jaghatai, it's his weird speed force like ability. Not only is his skills unknown to everyone, but the sheer speed at which it'll come will make it more effective. There's no point in predicting an attack coming with foresight or enhanced senses if it's too fast for you to react to, right?
Alpharius, The Khan, Corax.
The spear Russ tried to throw at a moon.
Hey Rho is there any chance for you to do Farsight video? With all these tarrot cards for him it seems that he will play his part with khorne and he got tempted once while he fought bloodthirster! And xeno vid would be nice. ^^
Any of them could have surprised Russ, but here is the thing, could any of them go against all of the others?
In my opinion, due to some cringe writing and some poor decisions in naming conventions, the wolves are looked at as a bit of a secondary legion.
While all of the other chapters had a speciality for either war or governance, Russ was built to police other legions. Without the need for much preparation he could adapt and overwhelm through fury or tactical acumen in equal measure.
If I were to choose any single legion that would frustrate Russ the most would be The Alpha Legion. If for the only reason that they wouldn't be there and just cause confusion. It's the whole "I don't have to win, just make sure you lose." that would push Russ to his patience' limits.
Lion el jhonson, the Khan or even mortarion
I thought it was a well thought out video. Russ is a lethal weapon and yes, there are one or two of his brothers Russ doesn't clash with in the heresy. The Lion held his own with Russ and Sanguinis should have been the War Master.
Konrad Curze, because of his unpredictability due to the insanity, and from the chance of his knowing the future.
