    I have been a bourbon drinker for a few years, but only recently started developing a collection and your recommendations have helped. Two weeks ago I bought the Knob Creek 9 Year, Russell Reserve 10 Year, and Old Forrester 1910. Today I found the Woodford Double Oaked at a store that was new to me and when I told him that I really wanted to try Weller he asked me to wait for a minute and grabbed me the last bottle of Full Proof. Paid $59.99 and it might be the best bourbon I ever tasted.

    I've got a Full Proof store pick that I was lucky enough to be able to buy at barely over MSRP. It is fantastic stuff. Not worth the stupid secondary prices (if you pay $400-$500 for it you may have brain damage), but a fantastic dram.

    I was lucky enough that my buddy gave me a bottle of Full Proof. Tried it Friday and it’s really good. It has classic Weller flavor but has the higher proof that I enjoy. In IL I can get the reserve for $28-45 and it’s my usual drink in rotation. I have a bottle of 12 that I paid $90 for that I’m afraid to open. I have had it at restaurants for approx $15 a pour and it’s really delicious. The cost is aggravating since that’s usually what bookers costs and it retails 2.5x as much. For the price I rather stick with the reserve. If I ever land another 12 at normal price I will be doing my own 3 way blind test. I had 107 at a restaurant and wasn’t really impressed with it so I am not seeking it.

    I'll have to hunt down a sample of CYPB and do a proper blind tasting. Wasn't impressed with the single pour I had at a bar but wasn't expecting much. Blind changes everything. Agree about WFP though, it's next level compared to the others. Cheers

    Nice video and kudos for stating both the MSRP and the reality (absurdity) of what is happening with regards to price. FYI, the crazy pricing is not limited to the secondary market. My local retailer has a bottle of CYPD for $499 and the Full Proof for... $799. At those prices I will never buy them and it's highly unlikely I will ever have the opportunity to try them. Sadly this is the state of the bourbon market. It must be difficult to continue to provide this content knowing that fewer and fewer of us will ever get to try many of the whiskeys you are presenting.

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  5 лет назад

      Yes it can be. I had to borrow the full proof and cypb. Ive only ever seen then at outrageous prices like you stated. Unfortunately until the bourbon boom slows down and people actually stop spending these crazy prices on bourbon it will continue.

      @@TheMashandDrum It doesn't seem like that will be any time soon, but I have seen signs. Last year my local Pappy source got an assortment of 18 (mostly 10 year) bottles in December. In the past they would call the list and they would be gone in a day or two. But they still had 6 bottles by the new year and they even made it to the display cabinet where the last one (a 20 year) finally sold in mid-February. Several other locations had similar occurrences. If that happens again this year it just might be the beginning of some price resistance. Let's hope.

      @TheMashandDrum  5 лет назад

      @@tomscott4438 I'm seeing the same trend. I think at some point it will die down and people will stop paying ridiculous prices for some of this stuff. The sad thing is alot of people don't even drink it. They just look at it. Or re sell it.

      @@TheMashandDrum It's been going on in the wine world for years and the same thing is now happening in the watch market. Five years ago you could walk into any authorized Rolex dealer and buy a Submariner in stainless steel for MSRP. Now it's a two-year wait list with nothing guaranteed or you go to the secondary (online) market where a $8k watch is available for... $13K. It's blatant market manipulation, but there are too many fools willing to pay the prices.

I've averaged about 1 W12 per year for a while, missed CYPB both years and got a WFP this year with an inside man :-). FWIW, CYPB is total tater bait. Ive given up on Weller. Either i see it and can't get it (stupid secondary prices, and i mean STUPID) or just can't get it at retail.

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  5 лет назад

      Yeah I don't blame you. The secondary prices on all of these are just ridiculous. The special reserve I've seen priced at over 100. It's a 30 dollar bourbon.

    I made it to about 1:30 before getting up at pouring a glass of 107. I actually scored a Weller Full Proof on Friday in L.A. for $41.99(and a 2018 GTS @ $199)

    Cheers for that vid Jason it's a shame Weller is impossible to find in the UK would love to try some. On a different tangent stagg Jr how long would you suggest leaving it in the glass before drinking, and how much does oxidation in the bottle affect the taste once it say gets past the label? Cheers for the videos and I'll try to catch a live again feed over Xmas!

    I'm so over the Weller game. Only see SR at retail and pass on principal. They come out with Full Proof and it's nowhere to be found. How much was actually released? Sorry for the soapbox rant. Great comparison review as always Jason.

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  5 лет назад +1

      Listen I get it..thats why I started saying Weller brings out excitement and frustration. Full Proof is still trickling out..not sure how much...I had to borrow this bottle. Appreciate you watching as always. This was my only shot to do all in one video so I figured what the hell.

  • @crow468
    @crow468 4 года назад

    Misinformation is probably the reason Weller is so hard to find. Having the same or similar mash bill and being the same distiller does NOT make it the same bourbon. It's a good wheater for the money (retail). It's a shame. It was a nice table bourbon.

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  4 года назад +1

      I would agree..as soon as Pappy was associated with it things got ridiculous. Now they want to introduce a single barrel version...I wish they would make the rest more available before adding new selections.

    107 doesn't taste good alone and especially with other whisky's. Special Reserve tastes better. 107 is the worst of the batch GLAD you pointed out it tastes terrible. Its always bitter.

  • @BudsCartoon
    @BudsCartoon 5 лет назад

    Doesn't "non-chill filtered" just mean..."filtered?" It's "non" a lot of things filtered. It's non-pop tart filtered. It's non-apple sauce filtered. That reminds me of the Mitch Hedberg (RIP) joke... "Why do they call corn on the cob, corn on the cob... They should call it corn and call everything else corn off the cob. You wouldn't cut my arm off and call it Mitch. Then put it back on me and call me Mitch all together."

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  5 лет назад

      First off Mitch hedberg was a genius. Lol. It is filtered to remove barrel sediment but they don't chill it and remove the compounds and extra flavors so it does make a big difference

    Weller 12 kind of sucks. Rebel Distiller's Collection is better than most of these.
