Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" Hes here
Nice video man keep it up
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" yee
RIP you are my childhood thanks for the memories
@Daniel Diaz same
same for me😢
Hey, Grant. I've got a really cool idea, not for your carbon rod arc furnace, but for your flower pot propane forge. If you add a bag of foaming agent to molten aluminum, it will create a material called foamed aluminum which has excellent sound-absorbing, impact-absorbing, and heat-shielding abilities. Some advanced forms of this kind of metal foam can even shatter bullets upon impact. Neat, huh?
Mike Trieu neat, huh?
neat,huh?
Neat,huh?
thats a cool idea
I'd like to see that
“The smoke is toxic” lites it inside house
Im pretty sure its a garage which has a full width door
Straight to business, no chatty B.S., no silly interaction. Just do it! There will never be another... THE KING OF RANDOM!
you should make a glass youtube play button.
do this please.
and a glass chicken!
alvin naeg it would cool down so fast but that would be so cool
or a glass bong
you can but it cools to fast and just kind of forms something that layers over itself and just creates a really sad misshapen mold.
>Says fumes are toxic
>Does experiment indoors
Toasterstoasturface >fuck you
Janus í Garði umadbro?
LIke He cares HE THE KING OF RANDOM LIKE HE NEED A MASK
that room is very well ventilated he said it in a video
Mster36 Given that thick cloud of smoke near the end of the video, I certainly hope so
"What's dad doing today?" "Melting our dishes"
Can u burn sand to make glass?

TheMacawMacaw XD yh
What about people making percentage comments?
Didn't see a prince rupert drop comment yet, lol guess cause im late
who prince Rupert??
One the first guys that got fascinated with that piece of glass and popularized it
Legend says if you are early Grant loves your comment
seems like legend was legit
Pro Player i need to try this
😅
Pro Player I need to try this soon
you again....
Grant Thompson + slow mo guys = Epic things
*pulls out super hot electrode*
"omg that's super cool!"
We all know what I am going to say: PRINCE RUPERT DROP
EPIK TOMATO,i was thinking the same thing too!
EPIK TOMATO you read my mind
omg me too
Try melting sand to see if It turns into glass, but try different types of sand
like so Grant sees it
killerbee3456 sounds like a plan.
killerbee3456 that is how glass is made
PatrickS Rooney that why so we can see
that's not all that requires but ok
Grant probably has no drinking glasses now 😆
grant, you never dissapoint!! such a great video!
Make a Prince Rupert's Drop!
its so easy to make one -_-
A Lind and!!??
A Lind It seems like you're having fun posting that on every comment
He was going to but it shattered in the cup the first time and then he missed the second time
Alan Wells Would be cool to see him actually succeed at it tho
"dont breath in the smoke, it's toxic" 5 minutes later. "it's kinda smoky in here" *takes deep breath
Hackers Life he says don't breath in the smoke coming from the black stuff on the rods
Lol
Hackers Life lol 😅😂
From the sticky substance on the end, not the glass.
Make stained glass for The Church Of Random!
You should be wearing protection on your arms. The UV rays coming off that arc are intense.
Probably some x-rays and other high energy radiation as well.
Agreed.
Kevin Jacobson lots of ionizing radiation like gamma rays
Brew Sauce it's the same as welding, at most he's gonna get a sunburn
I guess so.
You should make a Rupert´s Drop!
Joakim What is a Ruperts Drop?
I agree, you should make a sir Rupert's Drop
exactly
Ruperts drop is a drop of glass, which has some special abilities. It is really solid against shock (almost indestructible). Someone tried to actually break it with hydropress, and the drop left a mark in the steel. The fun part is, that if you try to break of the tail of the drop, it shatteres with no strenght at all. Find it on Wiki for more info.
"The King of Random" you should melt Glass and Aluminum together and see what happens.I think that would be really cool to see.
Ember Elysium yeah
it wouldn't mix. You would just have one layer on the top and the other on the bottom.
They won't mix.
agreed, I was also wondering what would happen
Lewis2910 He could at least try, you dont know what will happen if you havent tried it.
That...was........AWESOME!
Awesome experiment! I use to work in a metal heat treating facility that used electrodes to melt salt! The blades we were working with were placed it this molten pit of death (LOL) to raise them to critical temperature.
Hey, when are you going to show us how you made the liquid nitrogen generator?
JerryRigEverything is the answer.
Salvo Titus I've watched that video but would still like to see the official video where he goes into more detail.
NinjaPlayTime I wasn't gonna make it but I would like to see it
make a ruperts drop but cool it with liquid nitrogen instead of water, willl it behave differently due to the quicker cooling??
I imagine it would crack because of thermal shock.
Oh yeah you're probably right, maybe if you make it larger, and cool it a little before it goes in?
well, it's thermally shocked by the water. that's how tempered glass like a prince rupert's drop works. The question is "is it too much shock"
Yeah, I forgot to include the "too much" part, thanks!
My uneducated opinion is the change in temperature won't be that much more severe and it will work.
OMG throwback!! Love the vid
"got a couple of bags of marbles here" Holds up 3 bags... lol
Now that you've got melted glass, make a Prince Rupert's drop next!
Hey Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" make a prince rupert drop!
The face of the furnace is priceless!
Super! Thank you very much!
Grant You need to make GLASS INGOTS WITH THE METAL FURNACE!!! That would be cool! Like so Grant sees this!
Red Bowling Gamer yeah that would be cool
too dangerous, the glass will form into an ingot then if he drops it in water it would explode with the possibility of killing him and it would cool down normally if left out and it would then have tons of stress inside and can explode after cooled
Red Bowling Gamer not possible dude
you can pour it but it would have to cool down on its own
Titan yeah
We get it. You all want him to make a prince rupert's drop.
No
Geo & Pixels what is it ? Plz explain
2 ALDREDZ it is like a solid drop of glass with two parts, the ball end like a regular water droplet, and the thin tail like strand, but the weird property of it is that the big end is super strong like hammer strong, but the tail is delicate and if snapped the whole think will violently explode
just go and watch smartereveryday , he did a video explaining about it..
Man I didn't get there quick enough to give that Idea first. It is true Hannsen Lim to watch it on smartereveryday, thats where I learned about it.
I saw one of ya vids yesterday and I watched on and on so I subbed and I LOVE ya vids
This is so much fun. I’m enjoying it completely.
Many many years ago I used to know I can’t glassblower. His whole world was glass. I spent several hours on a date learning everything about glass whether I wanted to or not. Unfortunately I forgot everything.
What happened to the lifehack episodes?
make this go top so he can read this
For the next project, why dont you make a ventilation system :P
now thats a proper video
2 years after and that video is still awesome
Can you pour the glass into little ingots, like you do with aluminum and brass?
Ernie Velveeta that would be awesome, I agree!
Ernie Velveeta Yes you can pour it but he doesn't have a temperature moderating kiln so the glass would cool too quickly and shatter
or just cast with glass in general
TheKooa Yeah that doesn't really work
Ernie Velveeta as it cools, I think it would start to crack. so that make not work, but it's worth a try. :)
MAKE GLASS BULLETS!
That won't work, the glass will immediately shatter due to the compression caused by the ignited gun powder which forms in a gun's barrel
Pulmenti yep
Eh, you might get it to work with something low caliber like a .22lr. Or a low velocity/low pressure round. A .38 might be possible, as long as it's not a +P load. A .45 ACP would shatter, yeah. Probably a 5.56mm too. But..... it'd be interesting to see the attempt at a standard .38 or low pressure 9mm.
Corwin Weber well yeah that might work but also it wont since grant doesn't have the proper equipment to harden glass and make sure its able to resist the pressure
Pulmenti nope taofledermaus did that
i love the random happens .. hehe
Hey Grant! This is really awesome. My career is welding and this seems so similar! You should try making an actual weld on two pieces of metal with this! Awesome stuff man. Keep it up!
make a bunch of Prince Ruperts drops!!! i love those things shipper durable can smack them with a hammer and won't break snap the tail though and they shatter into dust!
THIS INVENTION IS F****** COOL
Guys i love you
You were a reason for me to continue learning random stuffs
Thank you
If you could try make a Glass PokéBall that would be awesome to see.
Team ALBOK ....
yes that would be awesome
Try to make prince Rupert drops with this method
matthew odonohue Omg i was thinking the same thing
yesss!!
this was so cool
grant"s wife:honey we don't have any glass left
grant: dont worry I can make new ones with marbles
He should have titled it "How to Make Modern Art in 10 Minutes"
I agree
Except it can't be modern art because it's not a blond cyborg.
Can you make Prince Ruperts drop by drip liquid glass in to liquid nitrogen?
no
would this work tho? I dunno about leidenfrost effect how it would affect the temperature and drops
The War Pig yes
This is so cool
this is so cool
He should make a prince Rupert drop
I know a lot of other youtubers have done it, but you should try to make a Prince rupert's drop!
it's pretty cool, allot of stuff you use in videos I can bassicly get for free from work, but I never do anything. lol
Prince Rupert's drop with that melting marbles
Can you do prince Rupert's drop experiment in liquid nitrogen.😀😀 ( putting a drop of molten glass into liquid nitrogen !!!!)
prince Rupert's drop experiment in liquid nitrogen plzzz
DO IT PLEASE
it will shater in there
Darsh DYB i
straight up stealing my comment
Try making a colorful prince Rupert's drop with molten marbles
If you want a colourful Rupert's drop just shine a polarised light trough it.
Patrick Abraham lol wasnt expecting that
Patrick Abraham I meant using the colored marbles but that would be neat
Could that arc welder be any more the embodiment of "hold my beer I got this"
I'm glad you do all of this stuff so I don't have to
Make play button with glass :D
jukq tengs "Make Silver play button with glass"...... it would be a glass play butto
E- Tato Huh? So you only know silver play button?
Wish before jukq said to make a silver playbutton with glass. he's edited it now
no i know more then the silver play button im just saying before he edited the comment it said "Make Silver play button with glass"
E- Tato Ohh ok sorry lol
try to make the prince Rupert drop
hey Grant! it's like homemade candy!
simply wow
Make a Prince Rupert's drop
anyone can make a prince rupert's drop its really easy
Apparently not, as his self destructed under water.
Lol, they managed to produce them in 1625, but it seems to be quite tricky to reproduce in 2017
A Glass Play Button. Like if you agree
Not really.I just wanna see some really cool crystal clear glass play button
'It's a little smokey in here.. does glass burn?" I would HOPE NOT
guy knows his craft🖒
Hey Grant, I'm excited to see your experimenting with melting glass because I myself am an intern at a glass blowing studio in Chicago. I'm excited to see your reactions and experiments with this amazing material.
Please do a vieo on the Prince Rupert's Drop :)
Randomly found this vidboomsubscribed. This guy is cool as well, nice channel!
The first marble was like "Help me ;-;" lol.
Make Prince Rupert's drops!
he trie to make em but he kinda missed
oh I didn't see this comment I was suggesting the the same
See if you can make a prince ruberts drop
I was about to comment that xD
Ruperts
Lol, I thought the carbon rods wouldn't wear out, but seems like they do.
they do into vapors
Would be cool to see some prince rupert's drops made from the glass you melt. It shouldn't be too difficult to make and the endurance of those drops is crazy.
And no im not notification squad
I just stay in youtube all day
deadman1575 same lol
can get as early as 1 second
Can you make a Prince Rupert's drop?
Yes, this would be awesome to try.
it will be awsome
he did in this episode, boi.
He tried two times during the video. The first try broke inside the cup, and the second try missed the inside of the cup and stuck to the side of it. Maybe he'll try again in another video, because that would be cool to experiment with!
xeflos tried and failed. All the more reason to try again
you should use your metal foundry to make a lime kiln. The process of making lime is really cool and amazing.
So cool
Can you make a glass dagger or glass mini master sword? A lot of games have "glass weapons" and it would be cool to see its actual properties.
Zachary Kennedy great idea
Zachary Kennedy super idea
for that he will have to use blow torches to keep it warm all the way through the casting
Try making a glass play button like if u guys wanna watch
AJIN PONNACHAN JOSEPH
Cool dude
He be dead already
Memon Man he was made 2 years ago
cool like your vids
how long can one set of electrodes be used, before they become unusable
Depends on what temperatures you use, but if you melt glass like this probably about 10min running the arc continuously.
Vexik Velyxor ....tnx
rithwik ramaprasad how long will the electrodes last depends on the amperage and arc length. Also being he is running a carbon rod positive and negative electrodes, electrode consumption is about equal on both ends.
At $2-3 dollars an electrode from a batterey, repurposing is great if you have dead lantern batteries lying around, but carbon electrodes are available at a competitive price.
Grant, this is something you need to try. The screw driver thing you did reminded me of this really, really cool thing. You should try to make a Prince Rupert's Drop. Look it up, there are tons of videos. The Drops are little Drops of glass and they're tough as steel. Please like so that Grant will notice this
do like this! prince ruperts drops are the coolest ever
he does at the end of the video
I mean he tries, but he doesn't really do it, besides it's much too small
I guess a designated video would be cool
Yeah that would be awesome and it would be very interesting to see if he can make 3 one
Try making a sculpture using this method! I'd be interested to see that!
And that my friends is what I'd imagine cutting through the space-time fabric would sound like
You should try to make some Prince Rupert's drops with the glass.
Melt some glass and then pour it into liquid nitrogen! 😱😄
Smak Pak 333 prince grant drop?
Smak Pak 333 well it might just solidified it
Possibly
*explosion*
Ultimate Prince Rupert's Drop!
I've had this wondering question on many of your furnace videos. How do you clean it if there is some left over from the last batch? Would it embed itself with the new material/metal your making?
Watching this made me think of Prince Rupert's Drop. You should look it up. It's some crazy science and very cool!
You should melt down plastic with acetone, then try to mold custom lego pieces. Great videos, love them!
Michael Jones i tried that yesterday
nah you didnt
Wilex Heynderickx not the lego part but i put plastic in acetone and let it dry
make a fire tornado like the backyard scientist pls like
thx
🙌
Super Irusham Colin furze has already done that
ya but it would be cool to see him do it
Melt some marbles/glass and make a prince rupert's drop
That would be interesting to see if that is possible to gather glass at the end of a rod and stretch it out like that instead of just inside the crucibal.
You need a tv show my dude.
Do the "Prince Ruperts drop" and do different experiments with it now that you got access to liquid glass!
Emil Spellista Did you just reply to your own comment...
looks like Emil Spellista did
Emil Spellista that'd be great
That's what he tried to to do with the glass ya silly goose
what other experiment do you need? SmarterEveryDay did a slowmo vid shooting it with a GUN and the drop itself didn't break, but the force caused the tail to shatter because of vibrations and THAT caused the drop to shatter.
