One Room, 21 days (Quarantine in China)

  • Recently, #Guangzhou updated its Quarantine rules for the Canton Fair, extending quarantine periods from 14 days + 7 days home isolation to 21 days in hotel quarantine. The rules came into effect just a couple of days before I left Australia to return to China.
    In this video, I'll talk about what it feels like to know that you need to spend 21 days in one room, how I pass the time, and give some tips for other people who might need to quarantine in China, or other parts of the world.

    I looked up on the special quarantine policy for the Canton Fair. It was activated on September 25th, effective up to October 20th. If you have left Brisbane on September 27th, arrived Guangzhou on September 28th, then the 21 days will ends on October 19th.
    So if you have booked your ticket to travel 8 days later, you would only need 14 days of hotel quarantine, followed by 7 days of household isolation.

    Well done Harry. Like you, I doubt that I would personally have any issues with the isolation and timeframe, but of all the tests, that nose one is the most invasive, eye watering that even I have experienced. Can I ask you, what vaccines have you had, Australian TGA approved, or Chinese vaccines? With Australian recognition of Sinovac now and two other Chinese on the list for approval, coming to Australia from Nov xx on will only be self isolate at home for seven days. Finally a step in the right direction. Maybe to little far to late! What are the accepted vaccines in China, do you know? My wife (Chinese national} on PR visa here, has Pfizer Biotech vaccine, while I have Oxfords Astrazeneca. Both are rated at 96% and 92% respectively in effecacy. With our international travel Bubble opening in November for all full vaccinated persons, we are hoping to return sometime in December for three months. So, any information you have regarding the position of over there would be great.
    Cheers mate, Jeff

    • @Hazza_Harding
      @Hazza_Harding  2 года назад +5

      Hi Jeff, I was vaccinated while I was in Australia with a TGA approved vaccine. I submitted my vaccine certificate when I applied for a green health code to travel back to China, but so far the information has not appeared on my WeChat health code. Hopefully it will, or they will set up a system whereby you can manually upload the information, as I am sure a lot of people coming to China from Australia right now would have been vaccinated in Australia. If I know more, or have any further updates, I will definitely let you know!

But not sure when I could realise this crazy idea...lucky you.

    I thought those who have a home are allowed 14+7 days quarantine ie 14 days in hotel and 7 days at home? The mural and lights are nice. Gives it a more homely and artistic feel in the room.

    Here's a suggestion to try: with 21 days in a room, why not learn to meditate and report on the experience? Give the brain a chance to quiet down. The English monk Ajahn Brahm in Perth has many short "guided meditation" tutorials on RUclips. The American journalist Dan Harris who just retired from ABC News has written a book several years ago about his experience, titled "10% Happier." Interesting read.

    I wouldn't mind the 21 days so much, but that 'every 2 days' deep nasal testing regime is brutal. Quite a contrast to flying Canada to Europe where one just needs a cheap and non-invasive rapid antigen test and no quarantine. Return requires one PCR test (ugh) and no quarantine for fully vaccinated persons.

    Hi, Hazza, I am glad you are back in China safe and sound. BTW, how's your lovely dog? This video is very timely and informative. While I'm waiting for your upcoming video on this trip, may I ask a few questions on quarantine? 1. How to book a hotel like yours and how much is it? 2. How to pay for things for people who do not have WeChat pay yet? Do I need a local bank account to register for WeChat pay, or how? 3. As my destination is in Beijing, do I need to complete all 21 days here in Guangzhou where I will land first? Thank you for sharing this video, and I like those tips! Cheers, Sophie

    • @Hazza_Harding
      @Hazza_Harding  2 года назад +1

      Hi Sophie - So glad to hear that my video was helpful! To answer your question about hotels, currently it is totally random. What happens is you join a line after customs/immigration, and around 20 people at a time get sent onto buses. They don't tell you which hotel you are going to. When I arrived at the hotel, they gave me 2 options for a hotel room (also 2 options in another part of the hotel which were a bit cheaper, I think they were more like studio apartments, so they weren't hotel-standard). They offered standard rooms for 480/night and deluxe rooms for 640/night, and I chose the 640/night room. If you want to order things to your room via an app, you do need to have alipay or WeChat pay depending on the app you use. I don't use Alipay all that often, I usually use WeChat pay. I have both a Chinese bank card and an Australian credit card linked to my WeChat account, so you can try to set that up before you come. Also, Meiling is in a pet hotel... I can't wait to see her again!!

    • @sophiebao6241
      @sophiebao6241 2 года назад

      @@Hazza_Harding Thanks, Hazza, it's very helpful! It's all worth it as your hotel looks spacious and comfortable to stay in for 21 days. It must be really difficult to have to leave Meiling behind. Do you get to facetime with her regularly? She must be desperate to be able to lick her dad again. Or, maybe, she's already forgotten about who her dad is?! :-) Thank you once again, Sophie
