As someone who lives in Europe (🇬🇧) , I am completely shocked that shops in the US would sell games without the case and charge full price!

Same but they are also the type to put stickers on the art insert and it ends up ripping getting it off.
I also gave into the 4 for 40 sale. With the 8 that came in, which were delivered in 5 different parcels, only 1 of them was complete. I ended up returning the incompletes to Gamestop. The moment the clerk saw me with a handful of games said, "returning those I assume since they aren't in their original cases?" They also mentioned how often people end up returning these.
I wish they would mention that the game would be complete or not. I am sure that most shoppers at Gamestop don't care, but there are enough of us that do care and it's a small detail that should be added to any purchase.

As a GameStop employee, lemme explain why some games come without the case. It’s because of trades, some people do not bring the original case with the game, leaving us to print a new one for it, if we have extra display art cases for the game in question, then we will use that art, but a majority of time with older games, we do not. Now some new games also don’t come with their original case, which is rare, but it’s because sometimes people steal the cases and we don’t have replacements. So we just ask that if you do trade in your games, please give us the original case with it so people don’t get mad at us for something we have no control over
Well.... Gamestop should probably let the customer know if they will get the Case and Manuel or not

100 sample size is a good start, but there are still factors that make this research skewed such as popular vs. non-popular games. Take the fishing games for example, they will most likely come complete because no one touches the case or manual right after they take the game out. While a popular Mario game, most people especially kids will take the manual and inserts out to glance or view pictures; hence, increasing the chances of losing them.
Riff is literally an editing god 🐐
GameStop is a hit and miss, 80 percent of the time it’s a miss but some people do get lucky with it. When they were doing their deal of the day stuff 3 years ago I got lucky with a couple of great condition used games but that was 3 years ago

I did a 100-game order recently, 20% complete, I am not frickin happy! The laziness in which they were packaged led me to believe that who knows, maybe they were complete, but it would've been too difficult to grab the manuals. Probably 60 of them will be returned, yuck.
On the recent sale they were having I got 8 switch games and only 1 came in a generic GameStop Case. That's 87.5%.

I actually did this a few months ago. I did not buy 100, but I bought about 40. I think 65% came cib and the rest came in either a generic case or just in a sleeve. I just returned those to a local gamestop.

GameStop employee here- 1st) any games in here with out any cover art/ paper and with any stickers were from a store not doing things right, we have to take off all stickers and put some cover in. 2) the reason some aren’t complete is because they were traded by someone who didn’t have a case or they traded it in with a destroyed case. Something are out of our control at that point, And 3) if you don’t want it without the complete case and all, take it back with the receipt they should be putting in the package within 7 days, you should be able to get a refund due to it being preowned - some locations may have different policies but mostly will be like that
this ended up being completely random for a friend and I. We each spent about $250 on games, him ps4 ps5 and switch and me ps4 and ps5 and games that he bought during the "4 for" sales and got a bad case i ordered days later and got complete games and vice versa. games came in a dozen different packages shipped from 5 different distros. We thought maybe it was first come first serve when it came to complete game but its was RNG at its worst
I just bought 6 games from GameStop with their buy 2 get 1 free sale and all 6 arrived without any sort of case whatsoever, not even the crappy GameStop case. If you go into the store though they will try their best to get you cases

All the higher dollar games ($16-19.99) I ordered didn't have original case. I did end up getting Mario cart 8 in another Mario game case I ordered. Was a crap black case though but I'll call it a win

i randomly caught this deal while browsing online but every single game i clicked on, it was already sold out, i was so pissed off
You may have CIB games, but their as you said it’s lower tier games. I would consider these common low tier games, even though some are somewhat decent like Sonic forces/monkey ball combo pack, Mud Runners, Persona 5 Strikers, and some people do like Sponge Bob battle for bikini bottom. Now if you were to try for some upper tier/ semi rare to rare games like Y’s 7 and 8, Trials of cold steel, Trine 1 - 3, Trine 4, and a few more more desired games that aren’t 1st party or 3rd party Nintendo IP games. This is a good experiment, but yet again these were likely inventory cleaner games they wanted move for other stock. If you can get say an Attack on Titan 2 or Attack on Titan 2 Final Battle, or even say a complete Rtype Final 2 complete with its outer cardboard box , then we got something going. Hopefully one day you’ll try this experiment again with those more higher tier games like Dark Souls.

That sale ran for over 3 weeks. I did 8 orders of 8 games ( so free shipping. ) Of those 64 games, 31 were complete and 33 got returned to local GameStops thank to their no hassle/ any reason returns.
I also noted that packages shipping from Fort Worth, Texas were most frequently complete games in perfect condition while packages shipping from South Plainfield, New Jersey were mostly likely go be loose cartridges in yellow disc envelopes. You can't choose where your package is shipping from, but if you check the tracking info, there are a few cities where you might as well just reorder those games because the ones you get are going to be incomplete and in rough shape.
