The music of Queen is very diverse and eclectic and unique and the band members wrote so many different types of songs. And Freddie could sing anything!!
John Deacon wrote this song and it was from their Hot Space album. It wasn’t as well received at the time because it was so different from any of their previous albums but they were ahead of their time. I love this album. John Deacon was more into disco and club music and it reflected in his writing.
Cool Cat was all Freddie and John, with John playing all the instruments, except for a little electric piano from Freddie - who then decided he didn't like it, so John 'adopted' it. Neither Brian nor Roger were involved at all. This was a period where the group was split regarding how to proceed, and Brian and Roger didn't like the way Freddie and John were drifting away from true Rock music. Because of this, the band never played it live, unfortunately. I do love Freddie's falsetto, with John driving the underlying beat, as always.
Just listening to the song you know that Brian and Roger would have run a mile and refused to do it. Freddie was not good enough on guitar to play that riff.....because it is hard to do.....and he couldn't play drums so he had little choice but to rope John in, who could, of course. John is quite a good drummer but of course he liked to just make out that he wasn't very good. He was an excellent guitar player too
I truely believe that Queen songs like this, was Freddie's way to show to Brian, Roger & John that they were appreciated by him. Maybe it is just my idea, but I have noticed that Freddie always put the extra effort and attention in finding the "right colour to paint" the other boys' songs. In this case, I am picturing Freddie & John sitting down and working together to create Cool Cat and my heart fills with warmth.
Thank you, I love this song, one of the most underrated ❤ Yes, Freddie's falsetto is amazing and John is the most talented bassist IMO I'm sorry if I misleaded you with my jazzy feeling, Queen can't be labeled in any musical style and I love it : every one can find his proper vibe in each song 💛
Well this is a deep cut, glad you liked it. :) Like you said, you can’t really put Queen in box in terms of a genre, they could do just about anything!
Hi Mr. & Mrs. C., thanks again for yet another wonderful reaction to our Freddie... yes, this was a deep cut and VERY underrated over the years... a funk style people were not used to hearing from Queen... ever heard a waltz played on an electric guitar?? (Our Brian is SO amazing!!) Check out "Millionaire Waltz", it is quite unique even for Queen... or even "Dreamer's Ball", another 'fun' song... blessings.
Brian and Roger didn't want to be a part of this song, so John did all the instrumentals - rhythm guitar, bass, electronic drum beat, everything. And Freddie exercised his falsetto voice as only he could do. Yet another example of their versatility, even when only two of the group were involved. If you want even more divergence from the expected genres, try White Man from the A Day at the Races album, Sleeping on the Sidewalk from the News of the World album. Next we go to The Hitman from The Miracle, and then back to It's Late and then to My Melancholy Blues, both from News of the World. That should keep you guys busy for a little while, trying to second guess the impossible pigeon hole to put this most extraordinary group into.
You Take My Breath Away, lyric video. There is a live version of this but IMO the official, lyric video is more refined. IF you react to it remember, Freddie does ALL the singing. Play it for the Mrs. while looking at her. Great love song.
Well done again! Yes, it’s different. However, this just shows their cross-genre greatness (especially Freddie’s). Keep on discover Queen and Freddie’s solo projects👌
Queen were such an amazing band - so many different styles. Some of the lesser played ones are Ride the Wild Wind, Dreamer's Ball (the Paris one), 39, Soul Brother, Las Palabras de Amor (for the Spanish fans), Millionaire Waltz (showing off Freddie''s superb piano skills)
And Teo Torriatte written by Brian for their Japanese fans. Freddie sings part of it in Japanese and the audience joins in. I think they made 7 tours in Japan, learned to speak it with the help of their translators, and fell in love with the country, culture, and the art. Freddie had even made a Japanese garden with a koi pond at his home
If you are surprised by Freddie's voice here, imagine when you hear his work at the Opera, please check out "Barcelona" live from Freddie's solo album also called Barcelona. He composed it to sing with the most incredible soprano I've ever seen, Montserrat Caballé, and it's simply an impeccable work ❤❤❤
Only Freddie and John are playing the instruments on this one. Brian and Roger hated this song and refused to play on it. But Freddie and John did a fantastic job. Freddie did his fasetto on this, he had a vocal range from baritone to falsetto.
I suggest you check out "One Year of Love," Queen's only song with a sax solo AFAIK. Not a top 40 hit, but a beautiful song, and Freddie sings the hell out of it.
First time hearing this song, I thought was Smoking Robinson. Then I found out later it was Queen. I was impressed and WOW. Freddie's voice can be falsetto. He can sing any song in any genre. A Motown feel. ❤❤ Fantastic 🎉🎉🎉

Thanks for this great reaction! This was never performed live so there’s just the studio recording. A little background on this. This is only Freddie and John. Roger and Brian did not like the R&B vibe and felt there was not enough rock so they didn’t want to be a part of this recording. Freddie and John wrote this. At the time a lot of Queen fans didn’t like this because they felt Queen was losing their rock roots, but I think people have come to appreciate it more as the years have gone buy. I think it’s real cool. Just love it. It was recently used in a Target commercial and people were like who is that singing, they didn’t realize it was Freddie and Queen. Freddie’s vocal range here is off the charts, he could sing it all.
Its not one of their worst songs, its actually one of the best songs in the album... i think you meant the album itself, which, while not as good as the rest of their catalog, is still good, except perhaps Body Language.
This is from the "Hot Space" album, released in May 1982, which was full of pop and R&B influences. "Cool Cat" is one of the most soulful tracks on the record. It was written by bassist John Deacon and Freddie Mercury. Hot Space is generally regarded as being Queen’s worst-ever album, despite containing one of their biggest hits, "Under Pressure". It was their 10th studio album and was marked by a radical departure in their sound as Freddie took the group in a new disco-inspired direction. Arguably their most experimental album, it was not embraced with the same enthusiasm by Brian and Roger. Recording the album had a negative effect on the band, causing strained relations between the four members, pitting Mercury and Deacon against May and Taylor. In fact, at the end of 1982 - after recording and touring together for 12 years and with arguments between them becoming more and more frequent- the band agreed to take a break from each other. They decided to take a year off and go their separate ways, what they called a pause for reflection This song is not only a Queen rarity as far as genre is concerned, It’s also one of few in which Freddie Mercury sings entirely in falsetto, and one of few to feature no contributions from either drummer Roger Taylor or guitarist Brian May, both of whom despised the album’s new sound as a whole, with “Cool Cat” being one of the most blatant examples. "Cool Cat" is also notable for being just one of four Queen songs that the band never performed live. John Deacon played not only the bass guitar but also the electric guitar, synthesizer, and drum kit. Freddie did lead vocals, background vocals, and keyboard.

I love this song soooooo much, Freddie's superpower falsetto and machine gun vibrato is amazing. Pls, don't forget, that Freddie was an untrained singer, but there was no genre that he couldn't sing well. John (nicknamed Dancing Deacy😉) and Freddie have shared the love of R'n'B and soul music. Would you like to meet another genre? 39 is very different again, live singing with Freddie or the lyric video with Brian 🤔?
This song originally had David Bowie on it, but he didn't like his vocals, so he had them removed, great reaction once again. Just to add, if you like queen's different sounds, try Princes of the universe, quick loud and heavy xx
I have 2 live performances you must see. One specifically for Coach. It’s NOW IM HERE live at Wembley 1986 and the second is for Mrs Coach it’s LOVE OF MY LIFE live at Wembley 1986. These are both fabulous lives.
OOOOhhhhh... ooo ooooo - Freddie is such a cool cat. & my goodness, John is on point here. Freddie & John Deacon loved this sound and did a few collaborations in like. (Brian & Roger, did not care for the sound and did not participate on this song). Me? I like most anything the guys do. No live version of this.
As minha música favorita desse álbum!
I'll give you a list of even more songs that are good in my opinion but also highlight John Deacon Queen - Liar (Live At The Rainbow, London 1974) Queen - Liar (Music video) Queen - Keep yourself alive (Live at Montreal) Queen - A kind of magic (Live at Wembley) Queen - Another one bites the dust (live at Wembley) These next ones aren't that focused on John but he still gets his moments Queen - We will rock you (fast version, Live at Montreal) Queen - Get down make love (Live at Montreal) Queen - Killer Queen (Live at Montreal) He sings one backing vocal Queen - In the lap of the gods (Live at the rainbow) this one is more focused on Roger but John gets a lot of screen time for some reason
An absolute must is "The Prophets Song, and Love of My Life" now you should 1st listen to the Album version and listen to them back to back, because one goes straight into the other, then watch Love of my Life live (Rock in Rio is best)
Queen could not be boxed into a couple categories, no they covered everything imaginable. Might want to try "See What a Fool I've Been" for a very different sounding Queen. Thanks for all your reactions!
Take a big jump to Freddie and Montserrat Caballe singing Barcelona, live at La Nit. Once again you will say, If I did not know it was Freddie I would not have known.
A couple more songs that are "different" genres with Freddie's unique variety of styles are: "See What a Fool I've Been", and 1979 Live in Paris, "Dreamer's Ball"
I need to push back on the idea that Queen is always better live. In some cases, in fact in many cases, this holds true. But when it comes to deep cuts and some of Queen's best work the studio cut needs to be heard. Either because no live version exists or the song was simply too complex to pull off on stage while keeping the integrity of the song intact. There is no live version of Cool Cat to enjoy. There is a version out that has some vocals done by Bowie. But I am not actually a fan of it. And I really like Bowie. But Cool Cat has been a personal favorite of mine since it's release. A great cruising song. I stopped doing requests years ago. Mostly because no one ever filled a request. Every new reaction channel seemed to have a prepared list of what to react to. You could almost predict the next song any of these channels were going to do next. So I would watch Radio Ga Ga or The Show Must Go On for the millionth time. Greats songs btw. They were just insanely popular in the reaction circuit and I was craving to hear the songs that, in my opinion, make the band legendary. Plenty of bands had great hits. Very few fill the back catalog with absolute bangers. So I am tossing my hat in and trying again. I cannot give you a one song request. It is too hard for me. Instead I would like to list 4 or 5 and let you decide what would appeal to you. All of them would be best heard as a studio cut. Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke - Whimsical ride of a song. Who does stuff like this? The Beatles? Maybe. But who else? March of the Black Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody's older, far less civilized sister. Manic depressive if it was a song. Don't let the "fake end" fool you. There is a bit more. The Millionaire Waltz - Queen showing off their diversity My Melancholy Blues - Smokey jazz feel. Nice mood setter. Cheers!
Thanks for the great comment. We actually have two of those on our list to do already. It's our intention to do a lot of Queen and we hope we can do some of the more obscure stuff not seen on other channels. Queen fans have been great to us and we want to learn more, so it feels right giving them some reactions to less popular stuff they cannot see many other places. Hope to see you around the channel.
You need to listen to the group Journey with the Great STEVE PERRY if you want to see a ballet 70s and 80s and some 90s , Steve Perry also has a solo career, but you need to watch live in Houston you won't be disappointed. People do compare Steve to Freddy in range. RIP FREDDY he sadly passed away due to AIDS in the 90s. Queen are still playing to this day with a new singer Adam Lambert he is a great replacement for Freddy . Thank you for reacting to them brings back a lot of memories.
My go to when I'm feeling off, a couple of plays of this and all is right in my world. Written by John and Freddie , 'Cool Cat' wasn't to Roger or Brian's taste so they took no part in this; what we have here is Freddie on vocals (naturally) while John took care of everything else.
Upcoming LIVE AID - is more of a testiment as to the power of Freddie Mercury and an audience. A 20 minute playbook of 'how to be the best performer in an arena concert". You might not know all the songs in it. "Radio Ga-Ga", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Hammer To Fall" could be new to you. oh, and Mrs Coach will get a bit of "Bohemian Rhapsody" too. *"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" has a super fun Official Studio Video Version - think Grease meets Queen
Greetings from Scotland. Really like your videos. Maybe try some other quintessential British bands like joy division, the smiths and stone roses next.
While it is a much aligned albuml, I always enjoyed it. I've sprained a thing or 2 'Wishing and hoping and waiting to really hit '. . . the high note in that line.
This album got the crap beat out of it for being too “dance” oriented. I introduced a lot of people to Queen that wouldn’t normally heard much from them. I played the groove off this album, just like all the other Queen albums. This is just a smooth jam.
If you are going to react soon to Live Aid, you should know that this day Freddie had a throat infection and the doctors told him that he couldn't sing. But of course, Freddie didn't pay attention to them and he performed anyway...the rest is history.
Hi Guys! Someone once said that Freddie could sing 20 different songs, and he would sound like 20 different people. I like to think of this as the "Freddie & John friendship song", because everything you hear is allll just the two of them! (Brian and Roger didn't like the song, and so they "boycotted" being involved in the recording of it.) As you noticed, there's no official music video on the Queen channel for this song... and there's no live version, because Freddie never sang it live. There is, however, a really well-done fan-made video I'd recommend, that was posted about a year ago... The footage in the video is entirely behind-the-scenes from Queen's trip to Budapest in 1986, fan interaction etc., and accompanies the song really nicely; it's become my favorite video to watch whenever I listen to this song, now. (The thumbnail pic shows Freddie wearing a printed shirt, standing next to a Hungarian man with a beard.) ...I watched an interview of Brian's from recent years, where the interviewer told Brian that his favorite Queen song was "Cool Cat". The look on Brian's face was hilarious (and not surprising, knowing the background). After a moment of awkward silence, the interviewer must've thought he'd said something wrong, and he asked "Is that okay?" Brian just said, "Oh, that's fine, you can like "Cool Cat" if you want." (It just made me laugh.)
So as many know, Bill Squire had Freddy featured on a few songs (Emotions in Motion and Love is the Hero for example). They also toured together for HOT SPACE tour. Billy is in the backing vocals on BACK CHAT from this album but can’t quite make it out where.
Please do a reaction to Oasis - Don't look back in anger, the live in Argentina version, its Amazing, the crowd is crazy singing the whole song along with them.
I don’t believe there is a live version of this song. Roger and Brian did not like this song or the general direction it was taking Freddie and John so it was never played live
HI Coach, Mrs. Coach! Yes, Queen are a genre unto themselves. That used to drive the critics nuts because they could never pin them down. 1982 brought the Hot Space album and it was, as Roger called it, "unashamedly disco" and ooowee, we HATED it. That's still my least fave Queen record, but at least it's still better than Freddie's solo record...
@@CoachCastTV Oh, Queen's catalog could keep you busy for months. They're a whole musical kaleidoscope. It's fascinating to watch them all develop into strong songwriters. That's why, I think, that their sound was always evolving. Everybody wrote and everybody had hits. No other band as ever done that.
Well Mrs. Coach and Coach...I see you are now receiving comments from people who speak languages other than English! That's great!! It means you two have piqued the interest of at least some of the MILLIONS of people around the world who love Queen. I'm almost certain this will continue. Of course, unless you are fluent in MANY languages, you might have to download a language/translation app or two (or three...or four) so you can understand what everyone is saying...LOL. But it's all good...your channel is GROWING...YAY! I'm waiting for your reaction to Live Aid. Unfortunately, Mrs. Coach will only hear a little portion of Bohemian Rhapsody in that 20 minute gig. To help her get the feel of the full, incredible song, I recommend either the album or studio version or, if you wish (and what I suggest) a LIVE version from either the Montreal,1981 concert or Wembley, 1986. The latter was part of Queen's very long Magic Tour throughout Europe for many months in 1986. Have fun!
Yes, it's definitely growing and we owe a lot of the growth to the amazing Queen fans. We plan on making Queen a regular part of this channel. Live Aid is recorded and waiting to be edited and it's our hope to post it Saturday if nothing goes awry. We appreciate you very much!

This song originally had David Bowie on it, but he didn't like his vocals, so he had them removed, great reaction once again. Just to add, if you like queen's different sounds, try Princes of the universe, quick loud and heavy xx
Oh that sounds great. Thanks!
I have 2 live performances you must see. One specifically for Coach. It’s NOW IM HERE live at Wembley 1986 and the second is for Mrs Coach it’s LOVE OF MY LIFE live at Wembley 1986. These are both fabulous lives.
Awesome, we've noted both. Thank you so much!
This was one we both really enjoyed 😉
This is a summertime driving with the windows down kind of song.
Agreed...this song would be good for a lot of situations.
Try No one but You………touchingly beautiful!!👍🏼❤️🎼🇬🇧🇬🇧
If you want to listen to Queen doing jazzy stuff try My Melancholy Blues be studio version or live from Houston 1977.
As minha música favorita desse álbum!
Yes, this was spectacular.
Guys, next you should do "Come On" by Oktaf Kanis, thank you 😊🔥
Nice song! 🔥
Another slower song from Queen with great vocals “one year of love “ 💥💥💥thanks boss coach
Thank you!
My second request. Still waiting on my first one “back chat “ live 1982 in Milton Keynes. I’m sure it’s on your list 💥💥😊
It is...the list is uncontrollable now. LOL
I'll give you a list of even more songs that are good in my opinion but also highlight John Deacon
Queen - Liar (Live At The Rainbow, London 1974)
Queen - Liar (Music video)
Queen - Keep yourself alive (Live at Montreal)
Queen - A kind of magic (Live at Wembley)
Queen - Another one bites the dust (live at Wembley)
These next ones aren't that focused on John but he still gets his moments
Queen - We will rock you (fast version, Live at Montreal)
Queen - Get down make love (Live at Montreal)
Queen - Killer Queen (Live at Montreal) He sings one backing vocal
Queen - In the lap of the gods (Live at the rainbow) this one is more focused on Roger but John gets a lot of screen time for some reason
These are great. Thank you!
Thanks for reaction to fav Qeen Song. Keep on going with Queen they will always surprice you.Greetings from Germany
Hi there. We understand why people like this one. It was great!
It has kind of a funk vibe to it... I love it.
Oh I love this song whenever it comes on my pandora I roll my windows down and turn my radio up all the way up!!! Such an underrated song!!!
Absolutely brilliant song!
An absolute must is "The Prophets Song, and Love of My Life" now you should 1st listen to the Album version and listen to them back to back, because one goes straight into the other, then watch Love of my Life live (Rock in Rio is best)
John deacon was in to is Motown and was also friends with the band earth wind and fire.
Roger Taylor & Jeff beck….Say it’s not true…..well worth a listen🎼❤️🎼🇬🇧🇬🇧
I love that song😍
Queen could not be boxed into a couple categories, no they covered everything imaginable. Might want to try "See What a Fool I've Been" for a very different sounding Queen. Thanks for all your reactions!
Take a big jump to Freddie and Montserrat Caballe singing Barcelona, live at La Nit. Once again you will say, If I did not know it was Freddie I would not have known.
After this you need another Queen genre ,
Sheer Heart Attack ( a Punky one!)
king of world's Queen @CoachCastTV tepuk 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Haha. Thanks, my friend.
@@CoachCastTV your welcome my brother 🔥 🔥 🔥 @CoachCastTV nice song,, 👏 👏 👏 👏
the big BLINK s family is always there for you @CoachCastTV
We love the Blinks and consider ourselves Blinks now. We truly appreciate you!
A couple more songs that are "different" genres with Freddie's unique variety of styles are: "See What a Fool I've Been", and 1979 Live in Paris, "Dreamer's Ball"
Please react to „stone cold crazy“ live at the rainbow 1974…
It’s viewed as the first ever speed metal song ever written…
Just did it, based on reading this comment. It'll post sometime next week.
@@CoachCastTV thank you very much! Really looking foreword to this one 😁
Loving your channel. Thanks for going down the Queen rabbit hole. Check out "Breakthru" killer bass line. Keep it up... Boomer Sooner.
The Millionaire Waltz - Queen showing off their diversity
My Melancholy Blues - Smokey jazz feel.
Journey is probably Mrs. Coach's favorite group.
We did not know some of them. We still need to edit, but targeting dropping that one Saturday if all goes well.
@@CoachCastTV I'm excited for you. I subscribed !
Awesome! We appreciate you!
Greetings from Scotland. Really like your videos. Maybe try some other quintessential British bands like joy division, the smiths and stone roses next.
Thanks so much. Glad to have you watching. We appreciate those suggestions!
👍 Agreed.
If you are going to react soon to Live Aid, you should know that this day Freddie had a throat infection and the doctors told him that he couldn't sing. But of course, Freddie didn't pay attention to them and he performed anyway...the rest is history.
That one is on the channel now. Thanks!
Hi Guys!
Someone once said that Freddie could sing 20 different songs, and he would sound like 20 different people. I like to think of this as the "Freddie & John friendship song", because everything you hear is allll just the two of them! (Brian and Roger didn't like the song, and so they "boycotted" being involved in the recording of it.)
As you noticed, there's no official music video on the Queen channel for this song... and there's no live version, because Freddie never sang it live.
(The thumbnail pic shows Freddie wearing a printed shirt, standing next to a Hungarian man with a beard.)
...I watched an interview of Brian's from recent years, where the interviewer told Brian that his favorite Queen song was "Cool Cat".
Thanks for that info. We really like this one.
So as many know, Bill Squire had Freddy featured on a few songs (Emotions in Motion and Love is the Hero for example). They also toured together for HOT SPACE tour. Billy is in the backing vocals on BACK CHAT from this album but can’t quite make it out where.
Billy was very popular in our circles in the day. Great voice.
Been on a commercial recently.
Hot Space us considered Queens worse album, a lot if fans hate it but I love it, I play this album a lot, way ahead of thier time.
Freddie is good fela of MJ so he wanna try MJ style just for fun.
Please do a reaction to Oasis - Don't look back in anger, the live in Argentina version, its Amazing, the crowd is crazy singing the whole song along with them.
Check out freddie with Monserat Caballe do Barcelona - Opera
We really liked this one but your comment makes perfect sense why some might not.
As a huge Queen fan myself of almost 40 years, I felt quite offended when you said it sounded like ABBA. It really doesn't sound like ABBA at all.
Gave me that kind of feel. Music is personal. Don't be offended by an innocent comment. Plus ABBA was a great band.
I don’t believe there is a live version of this song. Roger and Brian did not like this song or the general direction it was taking Freddie and John so it was never played live
A shame, it was a great one.
Everything we do sounds so different. It's fascinating.
@@cainealexander-mccord2805 Yes, that would explain the diverse sound when different people are writing.
Could you please react to a song called The House Of Gold & Bones by Stone Sour it has the same singer as Slipknot (Corey Taylor) in Stone Sour you get to hear more of his amazing singing voice, loves y’all’s content
Thank you so much. We can certainly add to the list. We're interested in how this band sounds compared to Slipknot.
Coach you do surprise me that you like Cool Cat. As you have said on the past you don't do ballards.
This song was a good groove. 👍
React to the Prophets song and tell me this is the same band, Diversity hardly cover it.
