OMG, Andy, the tight dispersion of the Max makes me wonder if Ping tweaked bulge and roll to improve lateral dispersion. Otherwise, I've always thought forgiveness referred to distance, not left or right. Thx for the test!
Wow. Gotta admit, even after the last TM comparison, I still didn’t expect such a big difference with these Pings. I definitely know the G400 Max is a standout amongst all the new releases this year. My friend just literally hit every new release from every OEM plus some of the 2017 releases and G400 Max was one of three finalists for him. The way it’s shaped makes you feel like you can’t miss and the numbers kinda back that feeling up. Great comparison. Thx Andy!
Andy, I have an appointment tomorrow to try this out at a Ping fitting day at a course near me. Really looking forward to trying it out. I have a Callaway GBB from 2014 now. At least this will be a better fit for me than the Callaway. I know more of what to look for now than I did a few years ago thanks to yours and other Tubers videos. I'll let you know how I make out.
I did to appease a few Jeremy not the masses, if you read the comments tonight people are complaining otherwise! I personally think the CB Alta shaft that was optimised for the G30 would have perhaps seen it perform better. What I do now from this testing is you cant please everyone!
Great video! This is exactly the video was hoping for in this great review format. I’m currently playing the G30 SFTec and am looking at the Ping G Max. Dispersion is what I am looking for and your videos have been so great at keying on that. I will be hitting the golf shop this weekend. You have sealed the deal really.
I have not tried the G400 and now there's the G400 Max. I should probably give them a try...better dispersion is worth a look at least. Thanks for the demo/info Andy. You always do a great job with your reviews.
Thank thank thank!!! This the review I have been looking for. I hit the G30 and looking to see the difference in it and the 400 max. Thank you, I am going to go test this out. You are the man!!!! Thank you for the review.
Michael Pope thank you Michael! If you do test and want to share your data with the channel can you send to andy@teeuplo.co.uk for a new feature on the channel?
Good information. I went for a fitting which was poorly done and ended up with epic. However I'm finding that if I'm off centre it goes nowhere! Going to consider ping g400 max. Have you done comparison with epic v ping? Cheers.
Hi Andy another excellent video/topic. For my tuppence worth- e.g. You get fitted for Ping G30 what would be best spec for you? Shaft, loft model etc. You then get fitted for Ping G400 shaft, model, loft etc Now hit balls and compare data. Layman can now see data from current driver G30 and compare to data from G400. A like for like comparison. Ping is an example and sorry if I've not explained it very well. Thanks 😎
I think G30 LS was a good comparison head, since it's closer in spin profile to the G400Max. I think this is a really good showing of how good G400Max actually is! They have to go multimaterial next year to beat this model :) (Or maybe in 6months as that seems to be the pace Ping is now releasing drivers)
I was fitted by Ping for G30 Ls tec 9 deg turned up to 10 deg in a tour regular 65 gram shaft. I had been using a G20 9.5 deg regular that I was spinning at 4000 rpm and the fitter got me down to 2900 rpm and 20 yards further. When you turn loft up it closes face and brings spin down . The fitter explained this to the pro who was going to give me a 10.5 turned down to 10 and said this would open face and add spin and told him to order the 9 degree in for me. I also bought a M2 2016 10.5 degree 60 gram stiff in our professionals retirement sale. I get the same distances with both clubs on a launch monitor but M2 spins lower about 2000rpm, on course the M2 goes further than G30 even though distances are equal on launch monitor.
Yes hit them both straight when I make a good swing or where it comes off the face both clubs most forgiving I have ever used good distance from heel or toe strikes also!!!!!!!!!
Great review Andy. I wouldn't of considered a g400 max as I tend to spin the ball up a bit with the driver. It would probably been more like the epic I'd of chosen. Real food for thought seeing the lower spin numbers on the g400 max. Glad people are starting to look at dispersion. I think I'm OK for distance but certainly would love to hit more fairways. A trip into your booth at fore golf maybe in order. This review may cast me money . cheers Andy wood
Excellent video Andy👏👏👏, really informative and very interesting data, I play the G30 SF Tec and I like the dispersion that it has, but it's nothing like the 400 Max results that you had. Well worth a look at, cheers Andy👍🍺
Maybe a 3 way review is the answer ie old cub old shaft, old club new shaft, new club new shaft. That might rule out the shaft gripes. 😀What do you think?
I almost did it on this Malcolm, its just a lot of time to do, for me I will be using the shafts that were designed for the club when in production, I think the G30 may have done better with its original optimised shaft but did this to keep the doubters happy!
Great review Andy I think any average golfer would be quite happy with the same yardage & even a drop off to hit middle of the fairway, but to get a yardage increase as well happy days,I have the PING G SF TECH But will definitely testing the PING G 400 max Will let you know how I get on in a couple of weeks cheers pal
Yes I would be really interested to know Richard, if you get some numbers could you share with me? I think you have my email? I would like to feature in a future video numbers from other golfers
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer No problem pal but not sure you would want to see my numbers unless you have a compass for dispersions & a calculation for the numbers 😂
Actually Andy, I thought your early statement was about right. Comparisons between heads, with identical shafts are not exactly what we golf tragics do. We compare our old driver and its shaft with the new head and its shaft, so I liked your early comment.
I think the new 400 will win by 20 yards because i wouldnt fit you into a low spin head (ls tech) against a standard spin driver...but i have frozen it so i shall see?
Andy-great video as always. Ping makes good stuff, the G30 was a great driver and you obviously like the new one too. I don't know if you have to test with the same shaft. It makes more sense to me to test the G30 with what was available at the time against what is available now-maybe some of the viewers are looking to pick up a G30 and if so the comparison should have similar shafts but I think you are trying to look for overall improvement between the two over the years. Always fun, cheers. P.S.-the new logo editor toque looks very smart.
Maybe for an idea you should get a fitting on a few older drivers and show they can still do a job and get you great numbers for the average golfers and say look you don’t the the newest and most expensive to play golf 🏌️♂️👍
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer it’s very good in late summer, course conditions might be a bit poorer in the spring but some of the southern courses usually recover from the winters very well. And we have a lot of courses so much to choose from.
So the overall distance difference is 10 yards, but at a hell of an expense. But I can understand how people would be knocked out by a great increase in accuracy.
I enjoy the concept of your video as I am always looking for this type of review. I believe gear from just a couple of years ago is not far off current stuff. I think however you would have probably gained the same result from a comparison between the G400 max and the G400 LS tec. Both current models. I think this comparison is not a fair reflection as the G30 LS Tec. is designed for fast swingers and these tend to be low handicappers. The G400 Max is on the market for the slower swinger and has a larger sweet spot designed for the Average Golfer. Without being derogatory I believe you represent the average golfer and thus would always get a better result with the new G400 max against the old G30 LS Tec.
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer I was right 10 yards difference and I did pause the vlog I currently have a G400 driver But going to try G400 Max next week
Charles Melaisis it will be interesting, if we are playing my game I will go for a small gain in yardage but more consistent yardage and grouping left/right, I do like the G400
G400 6yds longer with better spread. A tip for you Andy, if you want more subscribers like Alex Etches you will have to start hitting it over 320yds.😊 is there a gym near you?
I think your channel and content is going from strength to strength now Andy. The balls tests are solid and your opinions on old Vs new tech is balanced and clear. This is what you do best bud
If the CT limit for a driver is set at 235 milli seconds and and the COR for other clubs is set at 0.83, how are manufacturers making clubs that make the ball go further? Either their previous models are well below the limit or something else is going on.
Stan Meadows I don’t think it’s a case of making them ‘longer’ I think it’s about creating better performance from off centre strikes and producing consistently better ball speed from a larger sweet spot
A 'new' club won't make a player hit the ball more consistently, for that they need practice and lessons. Ball speed is related to how fast the club is travelling when the club head strikes the ball, which takes us back to COR. If the club hits the ball at 100mph the ball, under the rules, can only leave the club face at 83mph hence the stated COR of 0.83.
That still relates to the player being able to swing and control the club at a certain speed, not the club being 'hotter' than last years model. The average player, most of us, would be better off spending their money and time on practice instead of this years or next year club that will supposedly add yards to your game. Having said that everyones money is their's to waste.
I take it back Andy I apologise for calling you biased even though it was aimed at your mind set, however it would be interesting as you say to play with launch angle am sure you could easily get similar distance and if we see this trends surely we will see the tour distance going up. But nice to see you now recognise that the clubs are easier to hit with u h more forgiveness. Still think it's a pointless test as getting fitted for shaft launch and all that jazz is the best thing to do. Look forward to your reply
I say fair play to ya, most people wouldnt come back so I am glad to see you in the comments. Keep them coming Gary , I love the opinion, it was the 'biased' bit that questioned my integrity that I was offended by but maybe I misinterpreted. Like I say appreciate you coming back and watching this one!
I watch them all Andy, but I know if I had made a decision on something my subconscious mind would aid that decision. Also just to let you know all my clubs are TM I just get abit annoyed by the manufactures claiming every new club is longer and better, golf clubs are expensive these days and getting even more expensive so for the average golfers who work for a living this is a massive kick in the bollocks, however I understand marketing and the need for it but but it’s getting to much.

Great comparison !!!! I play ping and have gamed most of their drivers. Presently with the Ping G.
Well done. Nice test. Glad you accommodated the masses like myself that wanted the same shaft.
I did to appease a few Jeremy not the masses, if you read the comments tonight people are complaining otherwise! I personally think the CB Alta shaft that was optimised for the G30 would have perhaps seen it perform better. What I do now from this testing is you cant please everyone!
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer 😄 No doubt.

Dispersion is what I am looking for and your videos have been so great at keying on that. I will be hitting the golf shop this weekend. You have sealed the deal really.
Matt Gomez please don't buy clubs based only on RUclips, go and test the gear before committing to purchase! Get fit by a professional!
NovaScene I did just that. I went to my local golf shop and was fitted into a G400 Max regular flex 10.5 adjusted to 9.5.
This video has real value for all of us handicap golfers. You are asking what the point is? Do more of this style vs M4 vs Max....
I have not tried the G400 and now there's the G400 Max. I should probably give them a try...better dispersion is worth a look at least. Thanks for the demo/info Andy. You always do a great job with your reviews.
Richard T thanks Richard, I think this will be a big seller for Ping
Great review, Andy. This is the sort of review we amateurs need. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Michael
Very interesting video. I like your format as you represent the normal player and give objective reviews that I can believe in. Thanks.
Thanks Julian I appreciate that
Thank thank thank!!!
The G30 Drives Got Turbulators 🎤🎵 Whoop Whoop
Kevin Friesen and shotgun sounds
Good information. I went for a fitting which was poorly done and ended up with epic. However I'm finding that if I'm off centre it goes nowhere! Going to consider ping g400 max. Have you done comparison with epic v ping? Cheers.
Going for a fitting tomorrow,,same swing and speeds as the AverageGolfer ..interested to see what happens
Michael Sullivan and the same surname! If you are happy to share you results I will feature in a future video? Andy@teeuplo.co.uk
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer will do!
Hi Andy another excellent video/topic.
For my tuppence worth- e.g. You get fitted for Ping G30 what would be best spec for you? Shaft, loft model etc.
You then get fitted for Ping G400 shaft, model, loft etc

So which driver are you gaming Gary
Gaming M2 , but put MCC4 half corded grip on G30 and game it in rain there is only about 10 yards further with M2 and hit both clubs straight
Did you say hit straight....sounds good to me!
i just picked up a g20 off ebay for $77 8.5 degree
its a stiff proforce v2 shaft
no idea the spin though
Yes hit them both straight when I make a good swing or where it comes off the face both clubs most forgiving I have ever used good distance from heel or toe strikes also!!!!!!!!!
I use my Ping G 5 and hit it mostly longer than my buddies with the new drivers. But somehow it might be time to change... Good video, keep it up
Does adjusting the loft close or open the face on either driver?
Think this one will be closer with the same shaft and the G30 being the low spin head, I'd say 3 yards extra for G400 but a lot better dispersion
Surprised the G400 was the lower spinning, but that dispersion is a huge jump in performance
Pretty much as I thought Peter
Yes me too
At a guess, i'd say 4 extra yards carry with the g400 max.... I love ping and I'm currently gaming the ping G driver (sf tec) which I love...
3steveo3 pretty good!
I don't think you can use the same shaft on both heads as the shaft should be matched to the head .
Great review Andy. I wouldn't of considered a g400 max as I tend to spin the ball up a bit with the driver. It would probably been more like the epic I'd of chosen. Good review Andy, thinking about a Max having had an Anser for nearly 5 years now. Should be fun comparing them :-)
Interested in your numbers if you do try, if you are willing to share them? I am looking at something new on the channel andy@teeuplo.co.uk
Excellent video Andy👏👏👏, really informative and very interesting data, I play the G30 SF Tec and I like the dispersion that it has, but it's nothing like the 400 Max results that you had.

Steve B no I haven’t, have you Steve?
I think the new 400 will win by 20 yards because i wouldnt fit you into a low spin head (ls tech) against a standard spin driver...but i have frozen it so i shall see?

Yeah I agree re the shaft, I did it to appease a few critics of last weeks test but I cant hear them this week!
Well done Andy I really enjoy these videos testing old v new 👍😮
cheers Barry more to come
I don't think there be much in it. More consistent with g400 moi
Great review Andy

Yeah I think theres something in that.
Can you do a g400 max against the epic?
Defo on the cards
Just want to drop in and say you got a new fan from Sweden, keep up the good vids
Joakim Fredriksson thanks Joakim, Would love to visit Sweden one day, is the golf good?

Agree with all this and the video is to highlight exactly that
Great super honest review👌
Thank you
Andy, G400 max by 5 yards. Let’s see what happens. As usual an interesting vlog.
Good guess!
Good review Andy 👍
Thanks
G400 max better in terms of dispersion and also increase of at least 10 yard carry.
I was 1 yard out. Stop hitting it so far. 👍
G400 Max by 10 yards
IMO you should stick to the shafts that were available at the time
I would agree re the shafts Charles and good guess, just did it this time to appease the critics, back to normal next time
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer
I was right 10 yards difference and I did pause the vlog
I currently have a G400 driver
But going to try G400 Max next week
Charles Melaisis good choice Charles, if you try the G400 max could you tell me if any gains for a future video? Andy@teeuplo.co.uk
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer
Yes of course I can Andy
Hope the numbers with the G400 Max aren't to good as I've only had the G400 for 3 months !!!
Charles Melaisis it will be interesting, if we are playing my game I will go for a small gain in yardage but more consistent yardage and grouping left/right, I do like the G400
very angry with ping since I bought 2000.00 worth of their clubs and then they release newer ones.
G400 6yds longer with better spread. A tip for you Andy, if you want more subscribers like Alex Etches you will have to start hitting it over 320yds.😊 is there a gym near you?
I can hit 320 in 2 shots?
☺
Andy has more subs
Cornwall1888 I know Andy has more subs.it was a tongue in cheek comment to Andy's comment that Alex had reached 6k with fewer video's.
He's the average golfer ,I can relate to him.
Ls Tec isn’t a fair comparison
it never is John...
I think your channel and content is going from strength to strength now Andy.
The balls tests are solid and your opinions on old Vs new tech is balanced and clear.
This is what you do best bud
Nice of you to say Gary, thank you
New one, G400 by 13 yards.
Nice effort

G400 - 12 yards
Nice pick
Terrible matchup. Any Ping LST driver is a different animal than G400, G, G30. The G30 LST is for better players. G400 for average players. With your swing speed, the G400 would be better DUH. The LST drivers are for higher swing speeds. Calling BS
400 max
G30 to win
Like it Dave, playin the game fair!
Teeuplo feat. Average Golfer I thought it would of won I had the G30 ls tec and it was a bombing machine
The new one by 10 yards.
Nice answer
