In 1811 and 1814, the Ashanti king knows as Nana Osei Tutu Kwame Asibe Bonsu, waged war against the Fante were he mentioned that he could not make war to catch slaves; in the bush, it would be like thief which his ancestors never did so(Dupuis 1824, p.163)! Before Europeans arriving in Ghana and during European's settlement in Ghana, the AKAN people were not united and fought several wars among themselves. The Akan people are made of Asante, Akwapim, Fante, Akyem, Kwahu, Boule, Sefwi, Assin, Wassa, Baoule and etc. The Ashanti people were in a constant battle with the Fante, especially under Osei Tutu Kwame Asibe Bansu (1799-1824). The Fante formed an alliance with the British which a lot of ASHANTI war captives were sold into slavery. AKAN fought wars to acquire land, and expand their kingdom and superiority, not to gain slaves. However, these battles lasted for years, and British other Europeans took advantages of this situation by selling ammunition in exchange for war captives which will then become slaves.

Maroons are a very strong and well established part of Jamaican history. Specific Maroons are actually honoured as national heroes here and it's a source of pride to trace your ancestry back to them. There's a whole area of Jamaica that's dedicated to their predecessors, (achempong, maroon town). The Maroons fought the British and won. The British had to sign a peace treaty with them. Africans brought to Jamaica, rather than Africans that had escaped from the US to Jamaica.
I'm sorry they did not speak about the Jamaican maroons who are still present today. They live in protected territories in the mountain interior of the island. The British had to yield to the maroons and sign a peace treaty with Cudjoe. Jamaica has female maroon leader Nanny of the Maroons as a National Heroine who led many battles which led to maroon freedom.

You cannot talk about Maroons without mentioning the Maroons of Suriname (formely Dutch Guyana). They were from Ghana and were AKAN (mainly Asante). Because most of Suriname was jungle, the slaves would escape and run into the jungle and eventually set up camps. They would continuously raid the plantations and rescue other slaves. Their numbers grew, so much so, that they became a force to reckon with for the Europeans. They established a line in the jungle that they held for over 200 years until the Dutch made a peace truce. Many descendants of the Maroons over the last century have moved into the City and formed political parties for better representation. They currently share power in Suriname with another political party. In 2019 the present King of the Ashanti of Ghana, went to Suriname to pay homage to these proud descendants of Ghana, that although they were cut off from the motherland, they nether gave up their culture, and avoided slavery for nearly 400 hundred years. Many Maroons of Suriname still speak the Twi language and have kept their culture, and still have their 'Asafo' (Akan War Captains) for each of their settlements in Suriname. The fact that they have been living free under their own rule, long before Haiti, is testament to the human spirit.
As a white person I literally want off myself sometimes just thinking of my ancestors because and the cruelty I know they likely committed. I have to reassure myself that I can be something better than those before me. I hope every one in the comments has a nice day!
Why would you want to off yourself? Just because you’re white doesn’t mean you are responsible or share any responsibility for any evil done in the world by somebody who happened to have the same skin color as you.
Why do these types of videos lways call Black Americans (Tubman, Turner, etc.) Africans, but call others Jamaican, Haitian, Brazilian, etc.? Then end the video highlighting people who have left American life to find their “true” connection in Africa. Black Americans have fought and died for the right to exist in America. It is okay for Black Americans to embrace their heritage and demand their proper place in America. Look, Black Americans love the African Diaspora and have welcomed all that have come here. But Black American culture is distinct and rich. We created Jazz, R & B, Hip Hop, etc. We developed Break dancing, Popping, etc. We created marvelous art and took spray painting to a whole new level. We had the Harlem Renaissance and other intellectual pursuits and inventions. Black Americans built America, arguably the richest and most powerful country on the planet. The reality is while 500,000 Africans arrived via the slave trade (1500-1865), millions of copper colored indigenous people were already here who were enslaved and forced to breed with the slave masters and enslaved Africans. If you saw the movie Black Panther, the villain Killmonger is an example of what represents Black American and our experience. While Black Americans may have genetic origins from the African continent, just like Caribbeans Black Americans have developed our own distinct culture that must be respected going forward.

See "Maroons Within Present Limits of the United States" Herbert Aptheker 1939. Its a seminal work on the topic and gives more details about specific cases in VA, NC, SC, AL. A great book that overlaps with this is "The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia 1772 - 1832" Alan Taylor 2013. Every act of repression and stricture is an indicator that people were fighting. I was hoping for more details but I guess this was meant as an introduction. Thanks for posting it.

@@goldgiverbeatz7433 I know right. Soon they will say that BONI AND OTHER Marrons HISTORICAL FIGURES WERE SLAVES OWNERS which is not the case. The reason why they are doing this is mainly that the Europeans want to shift the blame on Africans to avoid reparation which all nonsense. They instigated some of these wars between Akan groups and other African groups especially when there was a high demand for slaves.

My family are Jamaican maroons. Unbowed. Unbroken. Give thanks
Look up Cudjoe and Nanny of the maroons, they were both leaders of the maroons in Jamaica and well they achieved amazing stuff, one was when the Europeans would send dogs to find them they would tame the dogs and use the dogs to fight against them, they also forced the Europeans to write a treaty so that they could be free, they also still have civilization in Jamaica located in the mountains
World has shifted...we know these are facts, but 2 years ago BET doesn't produce and post this material.
Well, then we're actually kinda lame compared to our ancestors. They escaped slavery and established their own towns and countries, whereas we can barely finance a national black bank or create an independent black voting party to give us political leverage.
The Maroons is a Jamaican group joining together like minded before the English occupation, to fight for freedom.😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
