Could impact the game with or without the ball like no one I've seen. Never a backward step. Matthews-like leadership. On the very, very top shelf of Hawks. 2002-2017.

Forgotten just how skilfull this guy was
his bravery or toughness is legendary
But his skill level was just awrsome
We've had a lot of great players. He's right in the top bracket.
That handball at 4:41 is one of the most beautiful pieces of play to draw the man and set Changa into space. I remember watching it live and having to watch the replay just to see it again.

Geez...is he our best player ever? Dual Norm Smith's, 4 flags, kicked goals, played everywhere, tough and brave, sublimely skilled and an awesome skipper. Bloody hell, I reckon he is.

He's Top 10 certainly...But better than Barney, Knights, Huddo & Bung?...Not so sure about that...He's up there with Kennedy & Scott as a leader of the club.
@@alansimmonds9030 Definitely up there with the best ever Hawk leaders. As for being the best player, I was blessed to see Matthews and Knights at their best, and saw Huddo towards the end of his career. Hodge fits neatly into their stratospheric category (yes, along with Bung!).
@@alansimmonds9030 barny first conan second hodgy third! 80s team had champions on every line! Champion is used to easily if I say champion I mean maybe 10 in last 10 years! The word champion is when your talking greats ever! Guns are a regular name for high talent but champion is rare rare breed and hodgy was one! Every team currently is lucky to have one true CHAMPION the 80s team had 6! 13 14 15 had about 3! Buddy was not a champion sorry! Cyril was a freak but no champion! Champions do it all! Not elite at one style or posistion !

Just an absolute bull, who was so powerful through the hips, with a tracer-bullet for a left-foot, -who could play anywhere.....Podge led us to Multiple Premierships, while Judd led Carlton to multiple Spoons - I know which one I'd prefer.
I don't think judd was overrated ! Judd was a gun hodgy was a true CHAMPION! Hodgy and Sam were the best 2 mids the game has seen in decades! Judd danger fyfe etc etc would not do up those 2s bootlaces! Watch Sam's highlights as well a freak with 2 lethal feet and hands! But you can see why shwabby let our half back go to Dockers and sold a lot to get Hodge! Then got him back for Dockers to win 08! Will hawk's sell the lot including players this year to get reid of eagles?
@@mareewalker1096 as good as Reid is, I reckon our on-ball brigade is now as deep & as good as any other in the league, going forward....Key position players are where we are lacking most in terms of high quality..... a good spine is most crucial to premiership success....I'd prefer we focus on this most urgent need in the draft, including a good third tall/ high half forward - with Caddy, McCabe & archer Reid fitting this bill very nicely.
@@alansimmonds9030 yeah I agree I would not sell the lot for Reid we need key forward and back! I just put the question out there! We have ciss and lewis so we do have the spine but another Lewis and ciss will finish it of! I still think Denver will come good it was took Lewis years to come good Denver will to I hope! Yes...a pretty handy footballer. Superb grit and such determination to stay in the contest. Amazingly good kick on both feet. Sammy and Hodgy were such a great combo in the centre for years then they worked so well off half back. Our team was so full of top level class back then. We will be soon.
