  • EASY JAPANESE SALAD DRESSING RECIPE IN UNDER 1 MIN - COOKING WITH CHEF DAI
    Ingredients (for 1 large family salad):
    olive oil or any other oil x 3 Tbsp
    dark soy sauce x 1 Tbsp
    balsamic or malt vinegar x 1 tsp (or substitute with lemon juice)
    freshly ground black pepper
    salt (preferably sea salt)
    lemon juice x 1 Tbsp
    Salad in this recipe:
    cherry vine tomatoes x 17
    chalotte x 2
    shiso leaves x 3
    This salad dressing has always been my "to go to" option when I'm short on time or want to enjoy a salad with a really light and simple taste profile. The saltiness from the soya sauce and the tartness from the lemon juice and vinegar really complement each other and leave your taste buds with a well rounded and balanced flavour.
    My Mother used to make this for me as a child and I have continued that tradition by regularly making this for my own family. Personally I would recommend preparing a mixed salad in a large bowl, throw in a few cut cucumbers, tomatoes, sliced raw onions and a regular can of tuna. Mix throughly with this dressing, salt, pepper and lemon juice and I guarantee you'll be hooked on the taste.....so easy!!!!!!

    Thank you for sharing your recipe. I've tried a cucumber salad dressing similar to this, but it was a little off. Thank you for making me smile about these three things: the tomato peeling trick (definitely going to try that some day); measuring table spoons with a big silverware spoon (I did the same thing just yesterday making creme brulee); the way you pronounce shallots was interesting in comparison with the American pronunciation (we emphasize the first syllable). :)

    1. I thought this was a summery watermelon salad at first glance of the thumbnail.
    2. Even as tomato this looks ABBSSOLUTELY DELISH!! and the dressing sounds like a perfect companion.

      you've given me an idea there. I should've presented these cherry tomatoes alongside watermelon balls. That would've been cool.......element of surprise and illusion is always pretty fun to do!
      Please try this recipe, I promise you'll enjoy it!!!!

    I made this salad yesterday. The only ingredient I did not have is the shiso leaf so I used Thai basil. The next time I make this, I'm going also add a drop or two of sesame oil. I can get shiso leaves, but I've never tasted them so I don't know what the flavor profile is like. Thanks for the video.

      Cooking with Chef Dai
      If you are under 30kg I can put you in my bag :)
      I am not going until next April, I just had 2 weeks in Malaysia on a food safari, Penang is awesome.
      Thanks for the tip, they have a Saizeriya in Shinkuku so I printed off a map and added it to my itinerary. I am there for 2 weeks, Ill stay in Shinjuku for the first couple nights then train it out to Hakone, a couple nights near Gora then a couple nights in Fuijiyoshida, bus back to Shinjuku, I saw the cool food market in Ueno so Ill hit that up, Ill just play my second week by ear. Happy cooking, Thanks John

    • @CookingwithChefDai
      @CookingwithChefDai  8 лет назад +1

      jonnywaselectric lol, if I diet from now until April, I may be able to get under 60kg's....under 30kgs, no chance.
      I've never been to Penang before but I would love to do a food tour of South East Asia in the future, definitely a dream of mine!!!
      WOW, it appears as though you've got your itinerary down to a T. Definitely check out Ueno, there's loads of cool little shops and restaurants around there. As you'll be there during April, I'm sure the weather will be nice enough to sit outside in one of the many restaurants that have an outside seating area. I really love that place!!!!
      Also, check our Naka Meguro in April. They have some quaint little restaurants around there and you'll be able to enjoy the Sakura cherry blossom trees plotted along the canal around that area.
      Also, check out the large departments stores in Japan. They usually have supermarkets and food halls in the basement areas....the abundance of great food and gifts are out of this world.
      The best food in Japan, apart from the obvious michelin restaurants, will be found in izakaya restaurants....make sure you visit lots of them. You can enjoy great variety of food and alcohol in those places.
      OMG, I could go on and on for hours writing about Tokyo. and you'll love Hakone too, beautiful countryside, great food and wonderful hot springs!!!!
      again, PM me closer the time of departure and I'll recommend you some cool little spots.
      Cheers John....

      @jonnywaselectric 7 лет назад +1

      lol, departing from Sydney Australia too so a bit far away.
      Ill have added Nakameguro to the itinerary, it looks amazing day or night.
      I like to ask locals where they eat for lunch, I found an awesome place in Kuala Lumpur where no tourists go, it had the most amazing chinese bbq duck and rice for 5.50 ringits which is about $1.82AUD or £1.05GBP, it even came with a small bowl of the house soup.
      I am getting pekish thinking about all this now, thanks for your suggestions. :)

    Olá! Eu sou do Brasil, estou gostando de seu canal ! Gostaria de saber que folha verde é essa que você usa, eu não conheço, acho que aqui no Brasil não tem. Posso substituir a folha verde, por outra?

      Olá! A folha chama "shiso". O cozinheiro diz que você pode trocar o shiso para otras ervas (por examplo coentro). Desculpa se o meo portugues tem algumos defeitos, vive na alemanha, mas a mãe é portuguesa. Muitos cumprimentos.

      Use plain sesame oil, not toasted. I traded it instead of the toasted one and like it much more. Now, unless is required to use toasted sesame oil I use the plain. I think it will work nicely in this salad. I will use malt vinegar and see how it goes.
      Good luck. Regards!

    in the state I've never had a tomato without the skin especially a cherry tomatoes does it make a big difference?

    • @CookingwithChefDai
      @CookingwithChefDai  8 лет назад

      hmmm, I sometimes like tomatoes with and sometimes without. These particular tomatoes had quite a tough skin and I wanted to enjoy a softer texture against the crunchy shallots. These little tomatoes were sweet, juicy and exploded with favour. You should try it out! Great to see you again here Tracey. Thanks!!!!

    Where in London can I get a shiso leaves? I searched in Japancentre and local Asian markets but without any luck. I was also considering trying to grow my own shiso plant but after reading comments that most of the seeds don't grow I gave up. How... where... please!

    although that looks great, I hoped to find something like the dressing my favorite KBBQ spot uses... its not really a vinaigrette but more like apple sauce in texture, and its garlic and nom nom nom...

    Add some "more" lemon juice? You never mentioned lemon juice at all. Also, five & a half minutes for an "under 1 minute" salad dressing recipe is extremely misleading.

    • @CookingwithChefDai
      @CookingwithChefDai  7 лет назад +11

      the video is 5 and a half minutes in length. The dressing can be made in under 1 minute. I don't think I was being misleading at all Diane.......

    • @1ro868
      @1ro868 7 лет назад +2

      Diane C he did mention the lemon juice as an option after the balsamic vinegar. and it is under one minutes when you try to make the dressing. its not mislead.
