Lyrics
Well, I just got back an I wish I never leave now
(Where'd ya' go?)
Who that Martian arrival at the airport, yeah?
(Where'd ya' go?)
How many local dollars for a local anesthetic?
(Where'd ya' go?)
The Johnny on the corner wasn't very sympathetic
(Where'd ya' go?)
I went to the place where every white face
Is an invitation to robbery
An' sitting here in my safe European home
Don't wanna go back there again
Wasn't I lucky, wouldn't it be lovely?
(Where'd ya' go?)
Send us all cards and have a lay in on Sunday
(Where'd ya' go?)
I was there for two weeks, so how come I never tell now?
(Where'd ya' go?)
That natty dread drinks at the Sheraton Hotel, yeah?
(Where'd ya' go?)
I went to the place where every white face
Is an invitation to robbery
An' sitting here in my safe European home
Don't wanna go back there again
They got the sun and they got the palm trees
(Where'd ya' go?)
They got the weed and they got the taxis
(Where'd ya' go?)
Whoa, "The Harder They Come"and the home of ol' Bluebeat
(Where'd ya' go?)
I'd stay and be a tourist but I can't take the gun play
(Where'd ya'?)
I went to the place where every white face
Is an invitation to robbery
An' sitting here in my safe European home
Don't wanna go back there again

(You got the nice guy European home)
(Explosive European home)
Rudie come up from Jamaica, 'cause Rudie can't fail
And twenty-four Track European home
Rudie, Rudie, Rudie, Rudie, Rudie loots and Rudie shoots
Elder come and the Rudie go but no one knows where police must go
That opening riff is one of the greatest in rock and roll history. Just goes from 0 to 150 in 2 seconds.
yeah there is god
they were petty good. Cheered up my life .
This song opens the album like a damn thunderbolt on a clear day. Sound and fury. And that ending... love it.
Classic !
Having been to Jamaica in the early 2000s I know EXACTLY why they wrote this.
too bloody true mate
Mick Jones stole the riff from Sammy Hagar.
The Clash - Safe European Home (Remastered) [Official Audio] 0800am 8.9.23 this used to be my favourite clash song. sadly, brand New Cadillac took that much vaunted title. the clash leads to Aki Olavi Kaurismäki cinematic enjoyment, for some reason....
Topper might be the .most underrated drummer ever !
The Clash never the same without him
Topper is def one of the more underrated Rock drummers
YES! BUT (he didn't drum on the amazing first LP) his drug addiction was the downfall of the band! dx
Mick's backing vocals are always additive and they made the reggae scratch seem like it was invented for punk.
Topper's drumming here is priceless ..... snare and kick drum in total unison.......
The drum sequence mid way still makes me shudder.....amazing ....the ultimate tune..
Sandy Pearlman who produced Give Em Enough Rope said Topper was the best rock drummer he had worked with.
@@RichardSmith-ew3xz Topper was also a multi-instrumentalist...
The Only Band That Matters.... forever and ever. 👏🏻👏🏻🤘🏻❣️
I wish I knew Clash fans like you around here!
Except for combat rock and after. No topper or mick, no Clash!😯😄😉
The only band that really mutters.
@@danieldesoto6787 wear a clash t-shirt, you will find them. When I wear mine I'm amazed at the amount of people who comment.
What a gay thing to say
I have got all albums and singels. Still a heavy listener , 63 now, been Clash fan since whith Riot and still are, its a treasure of music!!!
Their music makes me feel lucky! To exist, have ears, I dunno. Just joyous.
My favourite The Clash song. By far.
This or Tommy Gun…I could never choose.
@@Jett-Crash Tommy Gun is also great, but I find Safe European Home to be more explosive and interesting musically -although those guitar licks in Tommy Gun during the refrain are iconic and cool. And both are on the same underrated album!
I sing this to myself when I travel and visit companies, and the trip inevitably gets frustrating. Sissy fund managers sitting on their butt in cushy NYC and London don't know the bargains and fun they're missing in places like Uzbekistan, Egypt, Argentina, Pakistan, etc. All probably safer now than these "global financial capitals." Thanks to Joe, Mick, and the rest for these 3+ minutes of joy and upliftment.
What a hell of a way to start the album
One of my absolute favourite Clash songs
DYNAMITE
Top 3 along with Straight To Hell and my all time favorite Clampdown.
Mine, too! 😊 That and _Should I Stay or Should I Go._
you one of the dudes that robbed em lol?
Agree , so damn good
The first three track's on enough rope are the most powerful and potent combination of songs ever.
A tale of the boys being all excited and going to Jamaica finding out it wasn't as great as they anticipated
They went with it and rocked it !
They were right. The country is stunning and the people are vile.
sitting here in my safe European home I wanna go back there again
...cant see why, erm ive heard their still stuck in the 1890s culturally 😔
Yeah, as in how naive. UK government comes and pillages as usual the Jamaican landscape is left in ruins and they had expected a world-class 21 gun salute for their appearance?
Well, it wasn't exactly the 21 they had expected was it?😅
Such a great Clash song… the explosive opening just blows me away… Toppers drumming is superb!
This is the most incredible group of all time. What a fantastic album. Like every one was.
More than 4 decades on and this just kicks arse.
The Clash Forever…🥀
This is one of the best openers to an incredible ablum
Played this on the way back from war-torn Yugoslavia travelling into Austria in 2002. Felt good to be a UK European, coming back into the civilised fold. I'm glad nothing's come in the way of that since then.
Of course you’re being a bit on the levitous side correct?
Oh Superb.
I remember being aged approximately 18 years (53 now) and I purchased a Clash cassette, based upon ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’ re-surfacing in the charts.
I was wondering if I’d like them. Like them? Pure magic. They’re not made like this any more.
PREACH!!
this song is soooooo dope how they trade off the vocals ---- i love these guys
Brings me to tears every time
You're not alone there...
Great song! Saw them in 1977 with me school mates! Great memories!
Is Europe so safe? I dont care, London is my favorite city and I love live there. - John Coolman
Their best song. By far. Absolutely brilliant.
Bought the LP on it's release day! I was 13! IT STILL MOVES Me today in 2024 ! I am now 59! dx
This album is my favorite of them all been a fan since 1979
Give ‘‘em enough rope is underrated as fuck.
For sure! Many consider the debut to be a better album, but I think the second album is equally as awesome
@@xxRafaelProductions G.E.E.R. has more power and every bit as much conscience compared to their first album. If I had to take just one record to a desert island, it would be this one without question
Their best album
@dannyhernandez265
I certainly do concur 👍 !
Best tracks 4 sure.❤
An often underrated album, but my two favourite songs are on it. This and Stay Free
One of my favs songs by this heroes!
the pinnacle of rock n' roll
Totally forgot about this song! Thanks for uploading. The Clash are one of those bands that seems to just have an exuberant amount of content and that makes me really excited to explore them more. Comforting in times likes these.
Personally, I think this album is their best.
One of my favorites!
Saw them live five times, damn that was a long time ago.
Such a great song, reminds me of when I was in high school.
PS. I'm 21 actually.
Excellent soundtrack for your teenage indeed.
Stay Free
Same! Makes me nostalgic already, and I graduated high school in May 2022. Great soundtrack for teenage years as another commenter said
Did you go to high school in Jamaica? This song is about their trip to Jamaica.....so just wondering.
The Clash: The most underrated band in the century of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Called "Punk" in these days, today I mean it's called "Alternative Rock Music".
Who else thinks so?
Thx for upping this gem, R.I.P. Joe Strummer, we'll never forget you.
I agree. Punk came later
Alternative rock started with the Velvet Underground.
Definitively. Punk was the basis of their sound especially during their first two or three years, but their music always transcended the genre. They wrote many great songs and are very good musicians, on all three instruments (they also play other instruments, such as piano and harmonica), and they were also great singers, in their own right. They sometimes had excellent vocal harmonies, and Mick Jones played excellent solos and guitar fills, plenty of great rock and roll solos by Mick Jones (my favorite is 'Complete Control'). Both Joe Strummer and Mick Jones wrote amazing lyrics, and The Clash's lyrics are among the best in guitar-based music. These lyrics were always coming from the heart, and these musicians seemed to truly live their songs. They were and are heroes to many around the globe. You can often find comments on The Clash's videos that they were the next Beatles, and you can indeed notice many similarities between these two groundbreaking bands. Long live the Clash.
It's hard to understand what you even mean, but The Clash was, is and will always be one of the most celebrated punk bands in history. Not many punk rockers will say they weren't influenced by The Clash and the band's reach is superior to any other British punk band's reach by a vast measure and in every sense.
Punk was the same time actually why don’t y’all read a damn book
Rudie, rudie, rudie, rudie
Rudie can’t fail!
This song hits harder nowadays than ever.
CLASH...Forever in my life, in my blood, in my crazy...in eternety!!!!
yeah, they've been the one constant in my life for almost 40 years. And this was their best album
THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS
I read somewhere that The Clash went to Jamaica back in the day and this is about the trouble going on back then over there. Hence " ..... , don't wanna go back there again ". They've got the sun and they've got the palm trees. Look up the lyrics on Google this song is well written.
Yes.
"I went to a place where every white face was an invitation to robbery - sitting here in my safe European home, don't wanna go back there again""
Yup, that is exactly what this is about. They went to Jamaica and found that no one there knew who they were or cared about their reverence for reggae music. They had a very romanticized vision of Jamaica in their heads and they quickly learned that it was not the reality of the situation.
@AK99581 Dreadlock Holiday by 10cc in the same year talks about the same thing. Some 45 years later I bet things are alot better there. There performance at the Olympics leaves much to be admired.
@AK99581 To be completely honest to you, what do the crime rate figures show over time. Other things to such as the level of government corruption etc. Happy listening to The Clash.
@@AK99581 oh are you saying they went to a minority majority country and immediately got robbed and beat? crazy, would never happen lmao
By far my favorite song
Joe Strummer always admitted (despite all the later quarrels) that Mick Jones was one of the best arrangers (music) he ever met. This is impressively proven here.
Would have made a great single.
he said years later regarding Mick always turning up late that talent is worth waiting for...but I suppose at the time it pissed him off
Happy Birthday today(June 26) to Mick Jones. Cheers! 🥨
The album that changed my life.
me too
My first clash album
Their best album bar none imho. I know many of my fellow Clashinistas will disagree with that but, after all, Opinion is just that. Only opinion. Stay free is my very favorite track they ever did.
It's a cool song that combines pop and punk.
??? Any & Every quality/good/memorable punkrock song has a crucial pop basis .
I remember all these songs, the order and content(lyr/chord)
One of my favorites by them

Discovered the Clash through this tune on a mixtape I got from a charity shop for some reason
Im so happy I finally bought this album along with Combat Rock and London Calling
The first time I saw The Clash in concert was when they were touring America to promote this album, a little over two months before they released London Calling.
Another brilliant album. ❤
