- Since the beginning of Russia's war on Ukraine, more than 3.7 million people have been displaced by the war. Across the country, 10% of the housing stock has been damaged or destroyed, prolonging displacement of Ukrainians from their communities.
Housing is currently the sector most in need of reconstruction, followed by transport, businesses, agriculture and energy. The overall cost for reconstruction was already estimated to be 450 billion euro, 3 times the size of Ukrainian annual economic output.
Several private and public housing projects are contributing to the Ukrainian government's recovery programme. Cities and regions around Europe participate to the effort, as well as European and international institutions.
In this video, two people from Ukraine present a village built in 2023 on the outskirts of Kyiv. This village consists of 400 apartments. There will eventually be a thousand. Besides residence buildings, the project includes community services, shops, school and leisure spaces.
