Awesome video! I also own a 79 Y84 SE Bandit Trans Am with the 400/4-speed package. Ever since I was five years old I wanted a late 70's Trans Am after seeing Smokey and the Bandit for the first time and I promised myself that I would buy one like it. Fast forward to 2019 when I was 21 and an opportunity came along that would be life changing. My Grandparents' neighbor had a 79 Special Edition Bandit Trans Am that she bought brand new in January, 1979. She loved that car and her husband wanted to restore it, but had to sideline the project due to health issues and had parked the car outside with the engine taken out and stored inside their garage. The T/A sat outside for many years and I would go over to see it many times as it was my dream car. Sadly the owner passed away in April, 2019 and her son asked me to make him an offer since he knew how much I wanted a Trans Am. It was in need of a frame-off restoration and I offered $3,000 for it since it was a rare Y84 SE Bandit T/A with the W72 Pontiac 400 and 4-speed transmission. He said that if I promised to show him the progress and let him see the car when its done, he would let me have it for $1,000 along with all of the parts for it. The car is mostly complete with the original W72 400 Pontiac motor and original documents such as the original warranty and the build sheet, confirming it is a real Y84 SE with the rare W72 400/4-speed performance package. It is also equipped with the deluxe Hobnail cloth interior, power windows, power locks, remote trunk release, power antenna, rear defrost, AC, and of course factory Fisher T-tops. I am working hard to restore my dream car and pay tribute to the original owner and the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds. I'm also considering to do a RUclips series on the car and document the restoration. Great video and an amazing car!

That is a great story, Nikolas! Please keep us updated on the progress of the restoration. We'd love to see how you've documented the process as well.

In 1979 a Trans Am was in Rocky II, therefor the 79 is a Balboa Edition!

Very nice TA. My only comment is the shaker scoop decals were installed incorrectly. They should be placed nearer to the back of the hood scoop.

@@LeithCarsNC I used to own a 71 TA & had it repainted back in the 80's so I used the GM shaker decals which came with very specific instructions on the exact placement of the decals. I am assuming your decal kit is a reproduction so I would not know if it came with instructions like the originals. I see many restored TA's that have the same issue as your car. By the way, the '79 TA's were the last 2nd gen with the Pontiac 400 so I expect the values to grow even more. Hold on to that 79 SE.

Just a bit pick. The Trans Ams used in filming Smokey and the Bandit were all actually 76 models . You can see a few scenes where they are wearing honeycomb rims. Pontiac did provide snowflake rims and front end clips for the 77 model year.
      Beautiful 79 SE!

@@DustyBalz Yes, you are correct as the movie was made in 1976 for summer '77 theatrical release, so the studio had to use 1976 models but like you said, with the new 1977 front-end clip.

79's were crap because of emsission restrictions. Best T/A's were pre 79. But survivor cars still beautiful

Really enjoyed the video, but just to nitpick a bit, there was never a "Bandit" edition Trans Am. They were called "Special Edition", or "SE" for short. I have a '77 SE, Y82, which means it has the Hurst t-tops; the Y81 was a solid hardtop. I think the same designations were used in '78, but I could be wrong.

We just used the term "Bandit edition" to make it easier to find on RUclips. But yes, you are correct...Special Edition it is. Glad you liked the video.😊

1978 would have Y82 for those with Hurst T tops and later in the year Y84 with Fisher T tops.

Agreed; shame to see a nice car with dull tires and dingy white letters.

Shaker Decals are in the wrong spot. He's got 255/60/15's on it they look like balloons. It is a 400 4spd Y84 car though. Up close shots showed cracking on the front bumper and dirt that needs to be sanded and polished out. Not worth anywhere near $60k. He is dreaming. Maybe Half that price. Also the front Headlights are " Frenched " into the bumper. Not scalloped , and Like someone else said, this should be the Balboa edition. It has nothing to do with Smokey. It was in Rocky II. I hate to sound like a dinkle berry but misinformation is worse than my opinion

Yes, the car owner's comments about the value of the car have been pointed out in viewers' comments quite often. He may have been referring to certain "fine" and rare examples but not necessarily his own car?
