  • Follow me as I show you step by step how to replace the passenger front door latch / lock actuator on a 2011 Ford F150 5.0 crew cab. This is found to be a common problem. The procedure requires the removal of the door panel as shown. The door lock actuator is what locks and unlocks your door electronically. If you have to manually lock and unlock your door, this may be your fix!

Doing my drivers side door this weekend on my 2010 STX Supercab. I pray my passenger side doesn't fail in the next 2 days or my truck will be as useful as a glass hammer. Your straightforward video gives me some relief regarding the process. I picked up a Dorman 937-673 Front Left unit for $123+tax Lifetime Warranty. I didn't want to go the eBay/Amazon route for fear of premature failure. They had some cheapies, but on err of caution I was quick to avoid. Tremendous thanks for making the video and to the people that create these step by step guides.

The only thing that was different for me was that I had to disconnect a rod that connects the actuator to the key hole. Once I figured that out it was just a process of following your video. Saved me a couple hundred dollars by doing it myself. Thanks again.

I would not have had any idea how to do it without your video. The only difference was my door has another connection for the keyless keypad. Great video! I wish I had spent more time on the diagnosis. A broken wire can give similar symptoms to a failing actuator. Mine would work sometimes but not always. There are 4 wires on the actuator electrical connector. One should be positive all the time, one will not show power, and of the other two, one locks and the other unlocks so you would only see power on them for a moment after locking or unlocking. If you're not getting this, you probably have a bad switch or broken wire. My broken wire was about an inch from the connector in the door frame where there's a lot of stress as the door opens and closes. The boot was torn up as well. Just check things out really well before ordering the actuator.

ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO I just changed the rear driver’s side door lock on my 2014 F150 Super Crew, and it keeps showing a warning message that the door is ajar. Is that because it’s an after-market actuator (Dorman), or is there some sort of system reset needed? Also great job on this video. One handed? You are incredible. I used 2 hands and a few curse words and still had issues Tetris-ing it out of the door cavity! I could have used another hand or two!

I just did this same repair on a 2008 Ford Focus. The door latch assembly looks identical to the Focus one. I had to go with an aftermarket one since I couldn't find a Ford one online. On the Focus, the latch assembly attaches to the door handle reinforcement which I had just replaced on this car about two weeks prior and so that rod that attaches to that pink clip that you opened comes out all together. I just pinched the retainer buttons on the other side of that pink clip so I didn't have to open that clip when replacing the latch assembly. Nice video.

Worked for me, and I also had that SOB door lock rod with the IMPOSSIBLE one way clip. You might want to add to make SURE the door handle rod isn't stuck behind the edge of the latch when you install the latch bolts. I had to completely unbolt it to let the latch drop enough to get the rod out in front where it belongs, and undo the IMPOSSIBLE one way door lock rod clip, AGAIN... Other than that standard tight spaces, no visibility, not enough light, etc etc....
