      The trick is just to do your best to ignore the urge to breath like when it gets hard then you need to fight it by not paying attention to it
      I went from 1m:15s to 1m:51s to 2m:13s so my old record was just over a minute then my first try got me close to 2 minutes and then i got it and i think i can go for 2m:30 in a few tries and maby within a week i might get 3 minutes

    I recently started mermaiding and my biggest challenge is breath-holding (I could only hold for maybe 10-15 seconds). I've tried other techniques that didn't work for me. I just tried your techniques and I was able to hold for 1:18! I'll practice frequently to build it up. Thank you for such a comprehensive approach!

    Thank you for the instruction, Gert! I really enjoyed your video. I'm at 1 min 30 sec sitting here at my desk (which I attempted before watching your video instructing me to do this while lying down!) I plan to go snorkeling in five months time, so I am hoping to improve my breath holding, using your techniques. I will try to remember to post my progress. I have been a fan of breath holding and freediving, ever since reading 'Through the Tunnel' as a young man. I would always swim underwater in the pool from end-to-end to practice, but this was before the web and I didn't know what I was doing and information was hard to find, so I never seriously pursued the sport. Now that I am older (53) I am becoming interested again, because I appreciate the mental (yoga) aspect to it and it seems like a sport in which age doesn't have the same negative effects. I have subscribed and hope to learn much from you. Thank you, again!

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  9 месяцев назад +1

      to be fair, the breatheup technique in this video can be considered as a mild form of hyperventilation as well. it is meant for beginners to practice on land.

    Omg! when I tried measuring for fun I was able to hold my breath for about 40 seconds, after trying to do what you said I was able to hold it for 1:36 minutes on the first try and I managed to stay really calm and only felt the urge to breathe in the last few seconds. Will do it a lot more! Thanks.

    wow, thank you!! I was able to hold usually 1 minute. Now on first try the timer disrupted me at two minutes, and I was still ok, just after contractions. But i started breathing to reset, and not overdo it :D
    Definitely great instruction!

    You're such a good instructor. I just now, after watching this video, tried holding my breath following your insctructions, sitting in my chair in my office and I managed to do 2:15, which I never thought possible. There were some minor convulsions later on and my brain really wanted to trick me to breathe, but I just relaxed and it worked. Can't wait to try in the water together with equalization, which I up to this day didn't know existed, so I dove only about 4m max. Thank you.

    I really cannot believe this, I started with my personal best at 1:30, and after 30min and literally 4 tries it went up to 2:41. After watching your "How to STATIC APNEA?", it went from 1:30 up to 2:10 in 3 tries (at the 3rd exercise in that video) and after this video and the breathing exercises it went all the way to 2:40. I really cannot believe that it's all in our heads. Great video! I'm gonna check your "hold your breath 3min video" now 😁🤞

    I set the timmer to two minutes on my watch, it was dark so I couldn't see well. When I took my last breath I pressed the button to activate the timmer only thing is it was on the chronometer and I didn't realize. I held my breath waiting for the beep at two minutes. When I couldn't go any longer I took a breath and looked at my watch and that's when I realized I had started the chronometer insted of the timmer. 3'34 minutes had passed.

    Fantastic info! I love free diving. It’s pretty relaxing to hold one’s breath and feel the pressure of the water, once you dive deeper and deeper. It’s a bit scary when you start a free fall. One thing I wouldn’t recommend beginners is not to hyperventilate before the dive.

    • @gertleroy
