There's something to your voice I can't place. At times a little "country", somewhat bluesy. It's soulful and great, regardless. Excellent cover of a song that could easily be butchered, loved it.
Just pinpoint perfection, i watched this video fully through and had to wait till the end the write this comment just because it held my eyes in place. The phrasing, the bass notes, along with the jazzed up chords... it just all meshed together like some robotic kick-ass explosion of awesomeness... Jesus christ.
Even now, with 16 years having passed since you posted this video, this is still the best cover of Drive by Incubus that I've ever heard. The vocal range and guitar phrasing are both rather difficult to perform simultaneously, but you do it effortlessly. Powerful, clean and driven (pun most certainly intended)😎
For you people who thumb downed this cover.. go get your ears checked. Good Job fella, I've been working on this tune for the last few days and your video is going to help me along the process
Gautham b I haven't seen this video in quite a while and heard of UPS driver have it on in his truck and I looked up this video and yes you're right it's one of the best videos on RUclips. I tried learning the song On My Guitar but the fingering is so difficult plus this guy has a great voice!
That muscular tenor tone and bit of tin in the strum kicks this one into the sound strato memory. I return to this vid at least once a year because it sits in my memory like a thirst (heard it six years ago when it was 7 years old). As is, this cut would do well in any filmed scene appropriate to its feel.
Much much respect, on the guitar playing and the originality of singing in your own voice and not trying to mimic Brandon's... cheers mate awesome cover keep pushing on that talent!
Josh, you are my favorite singer/guitarist on RUclips. I'm just learning how to play, and I use your video's as my bench-mark. You have a gift my friend.
have to say that..that was the best cover any has done and that I've heard in my life, but im not talking just the Incubus-drive Covers im talking about all the covers made for all them songs out there..great job my friend great job
Amazing cover of a song I absolutely love. Otis and I are going to cover this next as a result of your inspiration and phenomenal version of this tune. Beautiful! Wild Beef
There's people on here that cover this song with extra instruments recorded and overdubbed etc. But this is the best version of the song with just 1 guitar and 1 voice on youtube imo. Keep up the good work, love the Chris Cornell vibe with the vocals.
I just wanna say to you/ your cameraman. thank's a million for the close up shots of the neck throughout the song. It's a great help to anyone looking to learn the songs and a great courtesy to other guitarists like myself. the sound is incredible too. excellent work. keep em coming.
Geez, I have been working on this song for a month and never could get the singing down with the playing. Watching your vid. made it all click. I think the transitions between chords with mutes is the key. Great voice! Great guitar. I am getting the 914 this spring!
Absolutely nailed it, bro. The subleties in the projection and vibrito in your voice are perfectly placed and compliment an equally beautiful tone and texture from your Taylor. Not to mention a very fluid style of playing. Great performance...
You're one of the few people on youtube who can actually play this song right. It baffles me how the most viewed covers didn't even take the time to learn the song right.
First of all - your playing and vocals are fantastic! A true talent. I think your processing (post?) is simply unbelievable. What rig for reverb/delay are you using? Rack mount? Tube? Pre-amp? It's a perfect mix of cut through, voicing, and a rich full sound with sounding overly processed. It just sounds great. I've noted the progression from your earlier videos and the sound is dramatically improved - you've hit the right formula - Thanks, man.
thanks for the link . I m now in a small town but I am going to look into it. I was considering LR Baggs stuff for live, but this is an interesting system. Thanks so much!
Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear Take the wheel and steer It's driven me before And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal But lately I am beginning to find That I should be the one behind the wheel Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there with open arms and open eyes Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there, I'll be there So if I decide to waiver my chance To be one of the hive Will I choose water over wine And hold my own and drive? It's driven me before And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around But lately I am beginning to find That when I drive myself my light is found So whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there with open arms and open eyes Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there, I'll be there Would you choose water over wine Hold the wheel and drive? Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there with open arms and open eyes Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there, I'll be there
Got it -- thanks for the follow-up! (I pretty much answered my own question when I went back to play it on my own, although I was deadening the 5th string. Same difference, I guess). 'Preciate the clarification, in any case!
Dude this is an awesome cover. Certainly no one is Brandon Boyd, and it didn't seem like you were trying to match him at all. The uniqueness of your voice kind of made the song like your own thing. That was cool. Big plus on the Taylor guitar. They are the best, in my opinion, for acoustic.
Wow. I love your voice a wonderful woody quality. Those who don't like the vocals just want to hear Incubus play it again which is stupid, I love your spin of the song.
This is just THE BEST cover of this song on You Tube - would you please please release the tabs/chords or better still produce a video lesson for this? Many of your fans including me would be very greatful, thank you!
That was great all way around, even the vocals which are hard for me to accept someone else voice after being used to the original.but you hit it pretty straight on.
Fantastic rendition of this tune, dude! I think I DO like this better than the original, or for sure better than Incubus' acoustic versions I've heard. Damn good...
NICE cover! One of my favorite songs very nicely done. Just picked up guitar (Taylor 214ce) a few weeks ago. Taking lessons and practicing like crazy hoping my fingers will finally decide to cooperate. Great motivation seeing you play. Thanks for posting vid.
I love this song and you have done it justice. Excellent Guitar and vocals buddy. I have been struggling with the chord changes and right hand on this one. I have a cheat version that sounds so-so, but i will get it after a few 1000 hours. Great job!!!
Just simply watch him play the chords, his videos are great at showing you the chords.
Interesting seeing you here!
I asked him for the tab. Plus he sings and plays together. Its more difficult. Those are not d, c, and g. 3 chords and the truth
Since when did you listen to this type of music??
How are you now?
I can't imagine who would give this a thumbs down. Definitely not anyone who can play and sing. Awesome job dude - love it.
There's something to your voice I can't place. At times a little "country", somewhat bluesy. It's soulful and great, regardless. Excellent cover of a song that could easily be butchered, loved it.
He's a bit like Harry Connick, Jr. So like swing.
You don't have to sound exactly like the original artist. He has an excellent voice and skills
I think it's much more interesting when artists add their colors to the palette of the original, such as here.

One of the best covers I've ever listened
Dude, brilliant cover, your voice is like perfectly harmonious with it.
Old video I know, but this is probably the best vocal/guitar cover I've heard here. Great stuff.
Kind of sounds like Chris Cornell when you go high !
omg yes!
Well called, friend. :)
Rip
I’m not hearing that. Not that it matters.

Love that sound setting of the guitar. Great cover !
this is absolutely incredible production value for a 14 year old yt video, great stuff dude
So many years have passed and yet this is Still the best cover of this song out here in RUclips..👌👌

Perfect mastery of voice, rhythm and chords. Tried to sync my singing and strumming so I found this legend. Thank you
I saw this vid about 5 months ago when I was trying to learn this song. You've got some serious skills. Cheers.
I love the vibe of this version, really does sound like Chris Cornell to me. And almost a million views. Well deserved, great version.

Awesome guitar skills and what a great voice!! Especially the deep vocals in the verse!
i really don't see how anyone could fault his playing OR his voice - they're perfect :)
love your guitar
Great cover of great song. made it your own without disrespecting the original version. good voice. Love your style.
