Such a huge change but they gave ten minutes for questions? They say there will be public comment, but also say it’s absolutely going to pass; seems already decided. This could cost the county a lot in legal fees. There are also families that visit, and they want a big home, not 7 hotel rooms or 5 condos. They will go elsewhere.
The hotel lobby is winning here. So much of those profits from hotels goes off-island to companies like Hyatt and Marriott. This kills a lot of local businesses, whose profits stay on island.
The resorts and hotels are happy. Meanwhile, this may help, but the real change needed is to fix our zoning laws. Impossible to build a house here. Easy to build a resort.

Nothing Honorable about missin Bissen, maybe Fess up and tell the truth where you were and what you were doing on August 8th 2023 during the deadly firestorm! Maybe you can you tell us why you did not sound the sirens for 11 hours as the deadly fire killed some of your people who you never bothered to alert and warn. maybe you could explain why you can do an emergency phone call to stay on calling the National Guard? lots to explain to the Kakou and Public! from all over the world!

I wanted to say why couldn't you, mayor bissen, have made an emergency call to the state requesting National Guard help early in the morning? If you had called for extra help, then maybe all of those 69 people who died in central Lahaina, could have been warned rescued and saved!

What about building housing. It has been 9 months and why didn't Maui put funds quickly toward building?? You could have had so many units up by now.

Stupid solution. Some people loose housing from a disaster so take it away from others who are dependent upon the economy that STR's fuel.

Mahalo! Finally something for the people (not profit) of Lahaina. This is the beginning of a massive shift thats been needed since the beginning of the end of our town. Lahaina...Hawaii...NO PLACE...is what it is, without its people. We repriortize the truly important things & the rest will shift & work out for the highest 'good' of all. That is Law! Some will perceive hurt & damages but over-all, this is about protecting human beings & the core right we are born with to feel like we have safety, a secure home, belonging, grounding under our feet from mother earth, the Universe, God.
Thank you, Mayor, for correcting the language used in the last question posed. More mindfulness like this needs to be used when speaking. Words are powerful. Actions, though, are worth everything. Bless our community. #lahainastrong forever 💝🌄🙏🏼

Yes, Mayor Bissen could have used his words and action Early morning on 8/8/23 by calling out the National Guard and calling a state of Emergency to help clear Hwy. 30 For an evacuation route, and warning Kahua Street residents of need to possibly evacuate, to help work traffic stops, and help Police and Fire Dept, and HECO work crews who were actually working on DE-ENERGIZED LINES, to help you sound the sirens, and rescue People from the Flames! Yes words and action would have saved many a Life.......about 69 in Central Lahaina of which 40 were trapped in your ignorant and irresponsible gridlock on Kahua Street where there were no guards, there were no Bullhorns and there was no evacuation! No!, No! No!. ! You Failed!

@@lesliem.legaux3674 thank you dear Leslie, I have been studying this Firestorm for 9 months and this morning I woke up with a revelation answer, that put it all together for me, a few days after the fire, mayor vision and police chief Pelletier told the public that they had been telling all of their employees and officers all day to treat the down power poles and power lines as if they were energized and could electrocute people. But HECO told BBC news that they confirmed with Maui County that the power was off. HECO also reported that the Maui County and police department called HECOS Trouble Center 18 times to verify that power was off (and other matters) on August 8,2023. So, Mayor Bissen and Chief Pelletier new full and well that the power was off and no one was going to get electrocuted and there was no reason to tell the police officers or anyone else to treat lines as if they were energized or think the public would be in danger of being electrocuted if their car went over a downed line!!! I believe that Police Chief Pelletier wrongfully made and gave the orders to set up roadblocks road closures and the dangerous barricading of people into the deadly firestorm, because of his wrongful actions and falsification of the truth, the roadblocks caused a chain reaction of deadly gridlock throughout the town. When the fire went over the bypass, police and fire closed it, and contraflow Lionel Luna Road West to the ocean into Front Street which was backing up. Highway 30, one of the two major evacuation routes have been closed for 9 hours prior to the fire flare up. This also contributed to gridlock. In the inability of the people to mass evacuate. Kahua Camp area and Kahua Street was never pre-warned of possible evacuation early on in the day,, they were never warned of the fire by outdoor siren or bullhorn and were never evacuated! When the people we're trying to escape the flames they couldn't because they could not enter gridlocked Lahaina Luna Road ( that is my strong belief and it was not just due to the fallen mango tree and narrow, congested streets) so they were trapped and there they died, which is very unjust and upsetting to me. These people were the victims of the wrongful grid locking by Pelletier and who knows who else. All along, Pelletier has been attempting to defend himself by lying about zero roadblocks in the burn zone (he reported this 8 days after the fire) in lying saying his officers never directed people down Keauwe st. ( They did) and in his after-action report he included proof for his actions by including a heco Public safety notification on what to do with downed power lines, he also included Jeremy Lee KITV4 and Jonathan Hertzog Video as evidence that they were reporting propaganda about him and the police department. As he referred it to misinformation disinformation and mount information! But the truth is he did all of this because he's scared because he's guilty and he is trying to defend himself. He is the one at fault for causing the murderous gridlock. hope all is well with you. If you think I am wrong about any of this please tell me thank you
