    Please note: Resistance/continuity setting is only for non-live circuits. You can damage your meter or cause injury if you test resistance on a live circuit.

    If you have a megger/insulation tester, you should do a video on insulation testing and leakage current next. It could be a nice way to start out a new advanced techniques series of videos.

    You should do a video on how to find a neutral in a control circuit. I know you won't ever see relays out in the field, but the use of control relays is a big part of any industrial setting. I've noticed that some people will get confused when a relay is being controlled by a neutral and not a hot. Relay power terminals do not have polarity, so it doesn't matter which wire you put on the 7 or 2 to energize the coil.

  • @mattsmith1318

    2:50 I'm an electrician apprentice and my dad asked me the other day about some sort of device you're supposed to plug in near your circuit breaker to help lower your energy cost. You just gave the perfect example of why it works great for an industrial application but not for residential. When I looked into it, an article explained about how it basically evened out that power Spike that industrial Motors cause..

    One bad thing about using the continuity setting to check a wire is that it will show complete continuity on a multi strand wire even if all but one strand are broken which is bad because that one intact strand will lead to thinking the wire is good and can handle the current when in most cases it will not handle the current which may lead to that wire over heating and causing a fire. Same thing applies when using the resistance setting.

    • @cesarroca9988
      @cesarroca9988 3 года назад

      So how would you check a wire then?

    • @DrunkHippos
      @DrunkHippos 3 года назад +1

      I cant imagine a scenario where the situation you described is even possible to cause a fire without a breaker tripping or whatever was connected to the circuit stop functioning. even if there is somehow only one strand connected inside of the insulation, it would evaporate itself under load and the circuit would break way faster than it would take to create any meaningful heat source to anything else

    • @jkbrown5496
      @jkbrown5496 3 года назад

      @@cesarroca9988 You have to test under a load. They make testers that will put the line under load and test the voltage drop.

    Always heard to turn off the power before working on wires but, what are safety procedures when using a multimeter(the power must be on) would you not get electrocuted?.
    Do we just wear insulation?
    Sorry I am ignorant about electricity but, learned alot from Electrician U's videos.

    • @AlexanderThaGreat746
      @AlexanderThaGreat746 5 месяцев назад

      You should always take safety measures but in order to get a reading for voltage or amperage the power must be on. ONLY when you are checking for (resistance) that circuit must be off. I’ve seen guys blow meters up with a back feed of electricity coming back to the meter when checking for resistance. Be safe and if you are not sure call a professional. Your life is worth more than whatever a service call may be. Hope that helped you

    Question, when your measuring resistance and you touch the prode with your bare hands, aren't you measuring the resistance of your body and not the metal conductor?

    With that initial spike in amperage with the motor being turned on, your breaker must also be rated to handle that spike. The spike was ~16Amps, so a 20Amp breaker would be sufficient?
