On joining Airfix tracks, back in the days (1960s) when Airfix tanks came in bags with a header stapled on, I found I could re-use the staples to join the tracks, though those staples were a bit big. Later on I got a mini-stapler which uses much smaller staples, and that has worked fine for me ever since (50+ years). You do have to think out where to position the staple so it will be least visible, and you have to use the stapler before you put the tracks on the tank, which can be a problem if they are a tight fit as you might dislodge a drive sprocket or idler. An option is to make the holes for the staple, fit the track, then fit the staple and close it with flat tweezers, which is a fiddle but works. I also successfully sewed tracks with cotton, which leaves the knot to be concealed. It is actually quite easy to hide lumps on tracks with "mud".
Adapt and overcome. You did a noble job battling this kit. Glad you didn't quit it. They make lead weights for fishing that can weigh a model down. Use them on planes too to stop tail sitting. Happy modeling. Bill PS: I'm a Armor modeler, so I hope you try to build another one some time. They are lots of fun, especially when used in a diorama.
Thank you so much! I tell ya what, on stream I was nearly crying. I was so upset! But I'm glad that I got it in the end! Yeah I used to have loads of lead so I'm going to order some come pay day to start balancing them again! Thanks for your comments as usual. See you in the next one (with new Format...scary!)
You have an original and distinctive approach and the potential to really make a mark among RUclips modellers, not least your bubbly enthusiasm brings the subject to life. Well done. Good that you speak slower than in your other posts I’ve seen. That’s vital is you want to build a following among non-British speakers of English. Tally ho, good luck 😉! Not a tank fan either but the great thing is it is something to do with your hands, after which you can pack them away in a box and you won’t have bits falling off like aeroplane propellers and landing gear.
I like trying to do different things to push myself! Though one or two have not yet got made! I've made 3 tanks now in total and I'm a lot more of a fan than I was originally. It's weird watching these videos now considering how much better my new ones (like the Gnat) are! I'll defo remember to speak slower! Thanks for your kind words 😁💜
Super glue has a GEL form?! HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?! Though I have just discovered the joys of UV resin...and my god that may be my new favourite thing! Thanks for your kind words 😁💕
Hi Ms Modeller my local model shop (I'm lucky enough to have one) has loads of Heller matchbox airfix kits, very much like the ones you have done so far. I wlil pop down there after work and can make a list of what they have for you.😀
"Nothing gets left behind" The Marine philosophy of model building! Very commendable. My philosophy of, "Hmm I've stalled, what do I need to do to get going again, I know...start another kit!" doesn't really work! lol The wet on wet camo worked well A clean black would be too stark in this scale imho The scale is 1/76. Airfix produced vehicles in this scale to fit in with model trains. Hence the OO/HO There's not a lot of difference imho I loved that Scorpion kit Hopefully Airfix will re release it in the Classics range
Hopefully the do re-release it as it's such a cutie! Somehow I only have one on my shelf of doom! Luckily any I do for a video tends to get finished! 💜
Lol, this is a model of my actual tank in the 1980s. Airfix were sent to my troop to consult and resulted in a hilarious conversation with the designer who asked me what the typical configuration was...to which i replied there wasnt one. Each squadron tried to standardise but every squadron and every regiment was different, so i suggested he included a variety of add ons so people could customise theirs just as we did. Back then we even customised our uniforms. Sorry you struggled with it...
Oh wow! That's really cool! Thank you for sharing🙏. I hope to go back to this kit and get it done properly! Because I would love to re-do this video in my current format!
Excelent. I was hoping it was this. I have a die cast 1/72 version and this and they are the same size to the naked eye even though this is supposed to be 1/76....and the tracks are a bloody nightmare to put on. Love it.
I feel your pain on the rubber tracks. They are garbage. They are a little bit easier on 1/35th scale. But I prefer individual link tracks. Much easier but can not rush building them eh. I am glad you decided to show the kit who is the boss and trucked on through. Other then the hover tracks the tank turned out Awesome.
Wow I built one of those many many many many years ago :) after I drove one actually. Kit was ok for it's day but tracks are a nightmare, thankfully things seemed to have moved on, surprised Airfix still issue that kit with those yukky things :) Try newer tank kits, I gather the tracks are a lot better. Well done in persevering wit hit though.
I definately will try newer tools - this is one of the older ones by far, and I really hated the tracks...but otherwise it was really fun to do something different! Thanks for your kind words as usual! 😁💕
I remember trying to build tanks kits when I was a boy and ending up making an awful mess of the tracks. Although I've never tried this technique, should you wish to have another go, try using the glue used to fix punctures on a bike, vailable on amazon. It is a pitty to have to buy a tube of glue for one task, but it might save on tears.
I remember trying to make this kit it ended up in the bin as my tracks were too short to fit around all the wheels. I just ended up buying resin kits of all the CVRT series (fv101 to fv108) from S & S models. I just need to get the fv109 to complete the set which will probably be a scratch build on a chassis.
I've seen the resin kits and they're quite tempting. Maybe I should get them? I' glad I'm not the only one who struggled with the tracks! Do you recommend the S/S ones? Thanks for watching 😁💜
@@MsModeller it sure is.. Little being the operative word. Next to the two on my shelf I have the Airfix 1/76 long wheelbase land-rover with trailer and that's actually slightly longer than the Scorpion.. Even in real life they are tiny.
@@MsModeller if you are doing a "things I have never built before" series of videos may I suggest you try a Gundam kit. I really think you would like them. 👍😊
If you think the tracks on this are a nightmare be thankfull you didn't buy a revell tank as the tracks on them are made up of individual track links.. I bought 1 of their Leopard tank kits and didn't realise the tracks were individual links and when I discovered it I gave it away, NEVER even started it.
This was by far bad enough, so the idea of it having individual links? NIGHTMARE FUEL. Though I'll end up trying it some point I'm sure! Thanks for your kind words as usual 😁💕
@@MsModeller if its any help you can always pretend your scorpion is SUPPOSED to look like it does, it's an experimental vechile testing out new technology for coming up with hover tanks. That's the fun of modelling.. Its YOUR model and it can be anything YOU want it to be. 👍👍👍👍👍
If you think that is bad I have a couple of IGB 1/72 Bren Carriers with individual links. Maybe I could raise some cash by having a sweepstake on how many will ping into the maws of the carpet monster! lol The links are teeeeny lol
Funny thing it's not actually a tank. Yes I know it looks like 1 and everybody calls it a tank, even airfix callit a tank and palitoy called theirs a tank when the released 1 in the action man toy line in the 70s /80s but the type of vechile that it is is a cvr(t)... Combat vechile reconnaissance (tracked) and its just 1 of a family of vechiles based on this chassis produced by the Alvis armaments company.
