  • Have you ever wondered how horses are selected by consignors to be sold in the 2-Year-Old Sales? At this year’s March Ocala Breeders’ Sales, we talked to John Sykes, owner of Woodford Thoroughbreds, and Shannon Castagnola, Director of Marketing & Client Relations at Woodford Thoroughbreds to learn more about the process.
They spoke about what sort of horse they pinpoint to bring to the earliest of the 2-year-old sales, emphasizing the need for horses with a mature body type and a good pedigree. They spoke about the day-to-day of getting the horses ready for the sale at their Woodford facility, and what it takes to build a foundation for these horses. They discuss in detail the importance of making all information about the horses available, and the importance of educating the horses so that they are prepared to transform into their careers as racehorses.
