    Hey Chloé. I’m a medical student who has had a similar experience personally with endometriosis. It’s an extremely common condition and most people that experience it are undiagnosed. Sometimes this can be managed extremely well through the contraceptive pill. I am aware of your background with body dysmorphia and eating disorders and that a lot of people are concerned about the pill possibly causing weight gain. However most contraceptives have less oestrogen nowadays (what can cause the weight gain) and there are also options such as progesterone only pills that don’t have oestrogen. Hope this helps and that you feel better soon

    It's best that you make an appointment with a gynecologist and get an MRI of your abdominal area including your ovaries and uterus. NOT EVERY CONDITION is due to mental or emotional upset. Too often women are told their discomfort is "in their mind".
    Young women can have many issues involving their reproductive system. Your physical conditions MUST be ruled out before you go looking for a therapist to help you fine tune your emotions. Serious conditions all start out as minor problems that have been ignored for any number of reasons. Common problems include endometriosis, ovarian cysts, blood clots. Many conditions can be treated to decrease or eliminate your discomfort.
    You don't have to wait for your finals to be over to make your doctor and MRI appointments.
    Please take care of yourself and take your physical symptoms SERIOUSLY! We have only one body to serve us for our entire lifetime. Physical discomfort is our body telling us it needs attention. ALWAYS eliminate physical causes of symptoms first, before looking into your mind for answers.

      You need a referral for a GI and it's pretty hard to get one, you definitely can't just see one for nausea. I have crohns, so I'm pretty experienced on that front. But if she was going to say more than that I was going to suggest it too. Since she's talking about it in association with her period it's worth mentioning to her pcp or gyn though for sure.

    Hi Chloe! I would recommend that you see an OBGYN and GI doctor. Cysts, IBS, and other health related things in regards to the abdomen and pelvic region is common in the young adult women population. Also stress can cause nausea, however, don’t let a doctor immediately just write you off. It’s very common for doctors to tell young women that their symptoms are all in their heads and not pursue further testing. There’s no doubt that stress can cause certain health ailments but do not be afraid to advocate for yourself! You know your body best.

    Definitely see an OBGYN! I've always had period issues- pain, heavy bleeding, bleeding for months and months, etc and I went through several tests, but they eventually found out what was wrong, and I had to try out different types of birth control, but the IUD seems to be helping me the most. No more pain, no more forever bleeding, and it even shrank my fibroid which they were considering surgery for. It is ok to switch doctors too..the first one I saw wrote off all my symptoms as stress, so I switched, and the 2nd doctor really helped me out.

    Im 25 and have been riding for 20 years now. When I was 12 I got my own horse who was so much harder to ride than any horse I had ever ridden before (at this point I was the youngest rider in the advanced class at my pony club but was also, well I don’t want to say ‘the best’ but I was the most experienced as I had been riding longer than the other girls so of course I would be better having had a couple years more riding experience than the others even though I was younger than them by at least two years and had also been instructing the beginner class for a year and a half, so I was by no means a new or even just an intermediate rider, my horse was just a lot more responsive and forward moving than any horse I had ridden at that point), the first lesson I had on him felt like I was learning to ride for the first time all over again. He had been trained as a competitive dressage horse in a previous home (I had done show jumping in the past at that point and was moving on to western/stock style riding and was racing barrels by this point) so he would have immediate and energetic responses to even the slightest commands (I could make him go from a walk to a canter without a trot in between just by squeezing my legs slights and collecting my reigns to move my hands forward a tiny bit as an example) in the 6 riding years we had together before I had to retire him and let him live out his last years as a paddock mate to the other horses I only had to kick him 3 times and it was always because he was distracted and I needed to get him to focus on his commands and the kicks were really just tapping him with my heals gently haha. My instructor who to this day I view as my dad and he calls me his daughter, gave him to me because he knew we would be perfect for each other, we just had to learn from each other first. It took me SIX MONTHS to feel like when I rode him I was doing just as well as I would on any of the other 50 (give or take a few) horses I had ridden to that point. I learnt more in those first 6 months from just riding him and getting to know him and figuring out how to handle him with only instruction when I was really stuck than I had in the 7 years I had been riding before that. He made me the rider I am today, and my instructor was right, we did need each other and became the best of friends. I always had to go out to see him first when I would arrive before I went in the house because if I didn’t he would stand in the paddock as close to the house as possible and just Winnie non stop until I came out and gave him love haha, in the last 18 months of his life he even decided that he loved to lick my hair, so I often ended up with bits of chewed grass and hay in my hair lol. When I had cancer from the ages of 14-16 I had a framed photo of him next to my bed that would come with me between the hospital, and our accomodation and in the hardest moments I would look at it and think of him and picture us running of the train in the bush down by the river, just running free and enjoying the beautiful Australian bush scenery together and that’s what would get me through. When I would come home to visit I would sit in the paddock with a book and he would come and stand behind me so my back could fist on his front legs and he would hang his head over my shoulder and sniff my face and just stand like that with me for hours while I read and continued this practice until he passed away when I was 20.
    Anyway sorry I got carried away with my rambling and reminiscing on my best friend, the point I wanted to make was that with horses, often times it’s the horses that make us feel like we know nothing about horses or riding at all, that will teach us the most and will make us into the best riders we can be, and the ones that end up meaning the most to us because of how hard we have to work to get to that point of moving and functioning together as one and having the type of connection where horse and rider can read each other and anticipate each other’s next move before it’s even made. I worked soooo hard with George and every bit of sweat, blood and tears (and you can bet all three were spilt in those first 6 months) was 1000000% worth it. I know today felt like a fail on this knew horse, but I promise you it wasn’t, you learnt so much today that you don’t even know you have learnt yet. Even if you go back to gray next time, you will find that something you do with her is suddenly easier and you won’t know why and it will be because of something this knew horse has taught you that haven’t realised you know yet. And remember that with horses, the learning part never stops, you could ride every day your entire life and learn at least 1 new this about them each and every day of your life. I know a lot of old cowboys and they will all say that that learnt something new about horses or riding over breaky that day or around the fire last night and that they will learnt something else today and tomorrow and every day that follows until your last.
    Also, I don’t know if you have ever heard of trick riding before, but with your amazing dance background I think you would love it, even if it is just as a spectator. You should RUclips it if you haven’t heard of it or seen it before. Best of luck!

    Hi Chloe, I also deal with nausea on a daily basis. I've had crohns disease since I was a young child and I've had many surgeries to remove blocked parts of my intestine. At this point I only have one metre of intestine left which causes many issues and from that I have many complications and other illnesses. I'm not suggesting that you have crohns disease I'm just trying to say you are not alone and that I understand how nausea can be debilitating. Everyone is different so I can only talk about my experience and what I do to try and treat my nausea. In the past I've tried peppermints, peppermint tea, ginger, Chinese medicine mainly using a pressure point found on your wrist (you can get wrist bands for this but they need to be tight to make sure the pressure is strong enough), mindfulness and anti nausea medications. When I am nauseated dry crackers and lemonade can help just make sure the lemonade isn't a sugar free. When I'm nauseated I often can't tell if it's at a point where I need to throw up or eat something I'll drink a glass of milk to test what is going on. The medication that I've been prescribed at present is ondansetron and scopoderm patches that last for three days and are placed just behind the ear. The country I live in has a decent public health system and those two treatments are free but I recognise that in America you most likely have to pay for it which could prohibit your access. There are many reasons for nausea including low iron which can relate to how much blood you loose when you have your period but you would be surprised how little blood you loose during your period. I think that you need to see your doctor so that tests and procedures can determine what is causing the nausea so you can get treatment. In the meantime hang in there, rest when can and try not to be hard on yourself. You have proven that you are strong, resilient and intelligent. It's really appreciated that you use your platform to talk about both physical and mental health because unfortunately it's still something that has stigma attached to it. I wish you all the best and if you want someone outside of your current life to talk to you can find me here or through Facebook using my full name and my picture is of a couple off cakes I made for my neice and nephew. Xx

      I have colitis and the nausea is real. I’ve tried so many things to help. None have worked. I also don’t have coverage for medication so it’s expensive to keep trying meds to see if they’ll work. It’s rough. I’ve honestly just learnt to just put one foot in front of the other and keep going. It’s rough

    • @amyrivers4093
      @amyrivers4093 2 года назад

      @@LivvyAlexW it's not fair that you have to suffer and that money is a factor in treatment. I'm very blessed to get free medication except for a $NZ5.00 (approximately $US3.40) charge on the first 20 prescriptions in every year and then it's free for the rest of the year. Some medications aren't subsidised or are only partially subsidised but the majority are fully subsidised. I've been going to the same chemist for over 25 years, they are amazing and they always tell me if I can get medications etc exchanged for a free substitute and they are aware of any free trials etc. It could be something you can ask advice on where you get your meds. I understand that you wouldn't want to spend a lot of money trying different medications and I know that over the years I've had to find other medications that work when my body gets used to a drug rendering it useless. I've been on many anti nausea medications and the three that have worked best are ondansetron, cyclizine and scopoderm patches. I know that everyone reacts differently to meds but I would suggest trying ondansetron. This drug used to cost $NZ19 dollars with 6 doses a month free. It is now fully subsidised here and comes in a tablet, liquid and a tablet that dissolves under the tongue. I don't know how much it costs to see your specialist but they may know of a way to get the medication for free or cheaper, on a trial, sponsored or even crowd funding. I wish that I could send you some in the mail but I don't think it's legal to do that. I spent a lot of my years as a school teacher vomiting and going straight back to work until I finally was able to get the right medicine regime. I think that a lot of people think nausea comes from not eating regularly but it's not always the case. I feel so mad and frustrated that you could try different anti nausea treatments if your government chose to use tax money on a medical system that can be accessed by everyone ideally for free but at the very least a small charge. I've lost a few USA friends from a Facebook support group because they haven't been able to pay for life saving medications. I know that I can't help much but if you ever want to talk to someone who cares, relates and is supportive please stay in contact. I wish you all the best and please don't hesitate to contact me. My specialists regularly ask me to talk to patients who are struggling in some way with their diagnosis and or treatment which I am more than happy to do because I feel like everything I go through medically is worthwhile if it means I can use my experiences and knowledge to help someone else. I also have given lectures to medical students and I participate in a panel of doctors that examine junior doctors when they are applying to become registrars focusing mainly on those applying to be gastroenterologists. I'm telling you this so that you can see the level of experience and knowledge I have and that I'm always happy to do what I can to help others to cope and to empower people to really take control of their health as much as possible. You are a very strong person just getting on with things but you do deserve a better quality of life. Take care, look after yourself and reach out if you want someone outside your support system to talk to or even just to vent and share your emotions with. Ive gone through stages where I’ve dealt with a lot of GI issues. Super cold yellow Gatorade and/or apples with peanut butter always help when I’m super nauseous.
    I found out I have an intolerance to fluoride and that was causing a lot of my issues for years. Years. I stopped using my prescription grade fluoride toothpaste, and mouth wash and started double filtering all water that I drink and I feel 98% better. Sometimes when I’m out in public and have water the nausea hits again because it’s not filtered enough. Sounds so crazy, but the littlest imbalance like that can completely hijack your GI system. Hope you get to the bottom of your issue and find healing!
    Also, try organic cotton tampons, they can help with bad period symptoms.

I'm not sure if it's because I did have a baby that it's worse but it is hellish. I do hope you feel better. Try ice lollies, or what you guys call Popsicles? The ice surgary flavours should help. They ways help balance out my nausea.
    You can also feel sick if there are any signs of ovarian cysts. The nausea and pain in the ovaries go hand in hand.

    Hey girl, I have had crohns over half my life lol. I don't think you have IBD. Just chat with your pcp or gyn in addition to working on your mental health. The natural stuff for nausea is great (mint and ginger) but there are some meds they can try and finding out if there's a physical cause is obviously important too; since you mentioned some period changes it'd be good to see if there's some endo or pcos or something going on! Entering into adulthood comes with so many changes hormonally etc. Hang in there!

  • @scarredlove
    @scarredlove 2 года назад +9

    You should see an OBGYN or your primary and talk to them about this. It’s not normal for your period to change that drastically, and nausea shouldn’t persist after your cycle.

  • @mylifeontheElist
    @mylifeontheElist 2 года назад +2

    Obgyn is a good place to start for stuff around your cycle, a gastroenterologist could be good too. I had an ulcer and my nausea would get way worse on my period

  • @ReaCreates
    @ReaCreates 2 года назад +13

    I also have a neasous issue. I use to dance/tumble and did not get my period until 16, and even at that it was very little. But as I get older (I am same age as you) and I am in college, not working out a crazy number of hours a week, they have gotten worse. I am on a pill which could cause neasea, but I have noticed it heavily relies on what I eat. Pretty much anytime I eat out I feel sick, and some mornings I eat ginger drops or rice. I would love an update if you do see a doctor.

    I hope you are able to find relief soon, Chloe! My two cents: I am a fertility educator, so I teach women about their cycles in depth. NaPro OB-GYNs are amazing. Birth control could alleviate the symptoms, but it’s more of a band aid than a solution. If you find a GYN trained in NaPro, check them out! They check your hormone levels and get to the root of menstrual cycles issues. I’ll echo that finding a GI doc might also be helpful :)

  • @gsacks0812

    I second everyone seeing a GI. My husband is one and I have horrific ibs (among other autoimmune conditions). he always reminds me that, when I’m constipated, I need to do whatever I need to do because my flares cause me to be hugely nauseated. (I’m a therapist and can also second how much stress impacts our gut). good luck sweet girl!

    It's definitely important to go to therapy if there's a need for it. I've been in therapy for many, many years and I will say it's very cool that you can use cerebral online, however, I have tried both online and in-person therapy and I much prefer the in-person therapy. You just feel the person and the energy and the situation so much better when you sit in front of a person instead of staring at a screen. So keep that in mind if you are trying it and don't feel it's helping you as much, maybe doing in-person meetings is better. Also, DON'T settle for a therapist if you don't feel like you connect or like he/she doesn't understand you, there is definitely a better match for you out there

    Consult with your doctor about a nausea medication patch called Scopalomine. Ive struggled with intense, insane, and overwhelming nausea due to several severe pain conditions. The nausea tablets I used to get never worked for me & would ALWAYS cause me to be more nauseous… the scopalomine patches are nude colored & small, and you wear them behind one of your ears… it was originally used to treat motion/ocean/air sickness, but is VERY widely/commonly used to treat chronic nausea in general. It’s extremely effective (you only have to change them every 3 days), VERY safe, quick acting (typically only taking about 3 hrs to kick in), and has truly almost NO side effects (I had a tiny bit of sleepiness for the 1st couple of weeks of using them)! I’ve been using them everyday of my life for about a decade now, and they’ve been a SERIOUS game changer for me!! I wish you the best, hope that you start feeling better soon, & I also hope this has been a helpful bit of information! 😊

    Please see your OB, but also your general practicioner. Might be lime disease - or an autoimmune disorder. If you google aversion to meat suddenly or nausea with meat, there are a few out there that come on suddenly. My husband is 100% vegetarian, because it also makes him sick and he has been this way since he was 7 years old, even though no one in his family was vegetarian.
    Also, consider switching to a menstrual cup.

    Hi clo clo!!! So, the NAUSEA 😢boy do I know and feel exactly what you’re feeling. I have Endo. I got ablations to remove them and the nausea eased but then they actually discovered that..MY PANCREAS was not functioning therefore causing me to have severe nausea and issues swallowing and so they went in and put stents in my pancreas and all those symptoms stopped. Unfortunately 10 years later I’m having the same issues again so the first thing I’m going to do is get my pancreas levels checked and see if it’s inflamed and then check my female organs. Then there’s extreme anxiety and mood disorders that cause extreme nausea in my case and so many others. Your doing a great job at life hun! But don’t wait to see the doctor, if you feel your body is off then go talk to a doctor, better safe then sorry! I'm a 19 year old pre med student I get a lot of nausea too. Midol (over the counter) can help for period related symptoms but for nausea I find Bonine (also over the counter) works really well. It's actually for car sickness but it helps. I got some in LA yesterday the worst of it is it's 10$ a pack in California. Of course consult with a dr to make sure you aren't allergic or anything like that. Doctors nowadays are quick to recommend birth control for every girls problem but it has a lot of terrible side effects from mental health to worse symptoms so personally I always reject it since OTC options exist with less risk of furthur problems.
