one of the chums my dad and i used was just chicken feed mixed with whole oats. the bulk of it is the chicken feed of course. all the bits are already the right size, so a bit of water and enough of a mix to get it all wet and you're set. works a treat. for the lure we would just take a cheap white artificial worm and cut them up into small enough bits that they just look like floating specks of the oats. they were more robust that way than a bit of bread stuck on the end of the hook.
Brilliant video mate. I'm going mullet fishing tomorrow and I can't wait. Catch and release only, the best channel around by far. Easy watch and eco friendly, win win in my eyes, ❤️ your work mate.
Bru, a gorgeous video and made me smile. I caught many mullet with my brother and father in Florida in my youth, we were allowed to use casting nets by law. Some days my dad's mates would catch dozens in an evening and spend happy times prepping them for food for their families. You really were a blessing with this video--well done.
Another great video mate 👍 i set a rod up for some mullet fishing recently. Never tried before so hoping to give it a go sometime soon. Cheers for the tips 👍
I fish for mullet in Jacksonville during the summer. I use chicken feed (layer crumble). Mix it with water and make small ball. Throw it in the water by your cork. Cut a tiny piece of white plastic worm to put on your hook as bait. It only takes me about 3 hours to get my 50 limit. Some people also use fat back rather than plastic worm pieces. Good luck.
Earl's Fishing Adventures haha thanks mate they really fight hard in light tackle 🔥 give it a go, your be hooked lol but they can be very frustrating sometimes
Hi jay,I'm back after personal illness, brilliant mullet fishing and well done to you both,I've been hunting the grey ghosts and had one just under 7lb, keep the mullet fishing videos coming 👍🎣🐟🐟.
Two beautiful Mullet, love the way you take care of them, from landing to putting them back, As always well filmed with plenty of great scenery. Poor Sam never seems to catch anything! Is there coarse fishing in the Channel Islands? If so and your interested can you do a video? Take care both of you and thanks for posting.
somerset beach fishing tony used to mullet fish a lot a few years back mate I was mad for it haha but as all mullets fishermen know they can be little buggers to catch sometimes haha
2 good fish there Jay, great fight on light tackle. I use to use Thai fish sauce to add to a chum mix, stinks a bit, but gets them going. Videos are great clarity by the way. Tight Lines
£18.95 a Kilo smash. That's like releasing nearly 4 bottles of Rum back into the ocean lol. With the lockdown you might have to grow a mullet. Thanks for the content.
I grew up eating mullet we called it Biloxi bacon. Biloxi is a town next to the town I grew up in Gulfport Mississippi. we call it the dirty dirty south because the Gulf of Mexico water is so gray looking. But great fishing.
Just come across your channel very informative and some cracking mullet also like the way make sure there fully recovered before you release them if you're not going to eat 👍
Another Florida comment. Every one of those mullet has a gizzard, like a bird. IMO, a plate of gizzards is worth the time spent catching the mullet. Cast net them. In season, they have roe that the Japanese beg for. There's yellow female roe and white male roe. IMO again, the white roe is best to fry and eat. You can mix the yellow roe into scrambled eggs. I've been eating mullet all my life.
Hey smash. I fished that exact spot on my last day on your beautiful island, I was heading home after that and couldn't take my gear with me, so I left everything closer to the road, hope someone picked it up. Thank you for the video. 👍🏽
Hi Jay and Sam! Hope all is well! The mullet is a very pretty fish. It is a popular fish in seafood restaurants in Florida. Glad that you two enjoyed yourselves. Be well!
I loved it Smash!! Great vid as you always do. Where did you get that 2# plastic bag to weigh fish in? :) You really cought some nice ones. Honestly the only Mullet I know of is on my fricken head..really need a haircut at this point.
I really enjoyed your video mate! I really want to do some mullet fishing before it gets cold, could you recommend me some good spots like the one your in? I'm assuming you're on the south coast?
Belting mullet there mate! My local rivermouth is usually full of them during summer when I go spinning for bass, never bothered with them before but will defo use these methods and give them a whirl. One question, what depth were they taken at? I see your trace was about 4ft? Is it weighted at all? Cheers, great content, got to say!
dukeofmodena mullet can be taken with bread strait off the surface dude it all depends on the ground we have 8 ft of water in that spot so we fish round 4 ft but if you go deeper or shallow don’t really matter as the chum will make them feed hard an soon as they see your bread they will come to it , the main key is to chum the area and make sure the mullet can’t see you or they will spook ,
Ive seen some biggens on a river cruising in the same spot and thought it's seabass...went with mackerel and squid and will not touch it...so i guess it's mullet...but never fished mullet..
One way to celebrate turning 36 smash fishing and a whopping mullet

With the lockdown you might have to grow a mullet. Thanks for the content.
Still waiting for my bass lures but I’ll give this a go, never liked floats.
So they hook themselves don’t actually have to watch just wait for a run?
Josh H Guernsey you have to set the hook on mullet mate or they will spit the hook
Fabulous Video Guys 👍🎣🎣. I use a old 12ft carp float fishing rod 😛. So much fun 😉
I grew up eating mullet we called it Biloxi bacon. Biloxi is a town next to the town I grew up in Gulfport Mississippi. we call it the dirty dirty south because the Gulf of Mexico water is so gray looking. But great fishing.

Whoever found it might have thought you had fallen in the sea 👎
@@MarkLeP that's true, I didn't think about that
very nice fishing
What's the best way to cook/eat mullet, please? They taste of mud with the flavour strained out usually.
Well done bud great little session that.
Crazy bro! Which area of britain did you fish?
Thanks Jay, it's what i asked for in the lives.👍
Mark Handley I remember you asking 👍 hopfully get some more tomorrow haha thanks for watching

Honestly the only Mullet I know of is on my fricken head..really need a haircut at this point.
what barbel rod was it you used?
i normally use a hard rod with 20lb lines, which can directly pull the fish out without wasting such a lot of time and effort.
I really enjoyed your video mate! I really want to do some mullet fishing before it gets cold, could you recommend me some good spots like the one your in? I'm assuming you're on the south coast?
I’m in guernsey mate anywere over hear you can get mullet
@@SMASHFISHING I will oneday, I like the simplicity of using your barbel rod, I think I'll do the same.
I have fished big ones on a lure on the lip same with big carp.
Wow, what a big fish, I also like fishing, boss

@@SMASHFISHING Brilliant, thanks for that, the area I go is about that depth when the tide floods. Chum seems to be the way to go, great info.
Ive seen some biggens on a river cruising in the same spot and thought it's seabass...went with mackerel and squid and will not touch it...so i guess it's mullet...but never fished mullet..
Class vid as usual Smash, just to clarify. is the float a slider? or do you fish on a set depth?
Roger Rug on a slider to adjust depth 👍
thought so, lovely rod, a bass on that rod would be fun!
Those gulls heard you say bread n lurked in the distance also that fish looks tasty
Thank you man😋I like your show
