@@PhillipsVision So for clarification, just go directly to the emissions test site? Is that necessary? With the light having gone out since the use of the thinner, is that the assurance I need that the thinner actually cleaned the converter? Sorry to bug you.
@@lm7692 if the light went out on it’s own, you should be fine. If you have the ECU codes cleared, you’ll need to drive for a few days without codes before testing. They can see it was cleared and want the ECU computer to start building a driving log to show no issues detected.
I have an 02 trans am. The 0430 code came up and Im in the process of doing this and I have driven about 65 miles so far. Do I have to reset the code or will it disappear on its own?
You can clear the codes yourself but I prefer to make changes like a tuneup or this lacquer thinner/acetone engine and exhaust system procedure and see if codes clear after a number of on-off cycles. That's the real proof if something works. Codes cleared by the computer and monitoring systems by themselves.
Jabier Merlo if you run it through as mentioned in the video (1 gallon thinner added to a half tank of gas) and don’t do it often then it shouldn’t be a problem. If you do it often it can cause problems to the fuel system since it contains acetone.
@@PhillipsVision i herd the that you can put a blower fan in front of the engine and put it on 2500 rpm and run the the fule and mixture out that way, instead of driving it 150 miles
I can confirm that acetone is a very good engine and catalytic concerter cleaner. My engine ran rich for a long time and completely clogged itself (map sensor faillure). After the map sensor problem resolved it still ran like shit. But after the acetone, I used 2% pure acetone, the engine performances improved so much I could actually pinpoint the time it unclogged more and more on the road. I took a 400 miles road trip and refilled after to flush the acetone after the trip.
@@bangoutslim9879 I used 3% acetone. Between 3 and 10% would be the sweet spot. It's the same ratio of acetone than using cataclean or b12 chemtool (they use acetone as their main active ingredient). Be sure to use most of your fuel tank in one time the same day you put acetone in it. Acetone is very volatile, so if you don't use it soon enough it will just evaporate and may ruin your fuel pump or seals or evap system. In short, acetone and fuel, long trip 'till you got 1/4 to 1/8 of the tank, then refuel.
It doesn't matter which you do first but, you've got to clear the CEL code/light in order to know if everything is back to normal. Depending on the vehicle, disconnecting the - battery terminal for 10min should clear the computer. I often disconnect them overnight if I'm not driving anywhere but that's not necessary.

Well 1) Gas tank was halfway full 2) added lacquer thinner (same as Andy’s video Description [Brown label]) 2.5) upon adding lacquer thinner I drop about 5 percent of the 1Gallon on the floor because my funnel was not in place. Second I left about 5 of lacquer thinner in the canteen. Overall I didn’t pure 100 lacquer thinner probably 90 percent went in the half way tank. 3) drove my car right away on the highway 101 Ventura to the 118 highway No luck went over 150 miles ( I calculated my trip using my trip button on the odometer) 4) I have filled my gas tank since then and the code is still on.. Waiting to see if it clears out in about 400 miles A different driver on RUclips claimed that his codes cleared after 400 miles ( he didn’t drive fast on the highway or reached over 2000 rpm, he just drove regularly until the codes disappeared)
R5150i you need to add the full amount of thinner. You’ll need to burn the entire tank, then refill your gas tank. It could be that your cat is too far gone. This is not a guarantee for all failing cats
The thinner will not clean a cat because it's already combusted by the time it travels through it. However, thinner cleans the crap out of the fuel system, injectors and cylinders which may be why it works for some people.

I have read that to assure it is gone, first have it checked at say for example an auto zone, than have them clear the system, and apparently check it again to make certain that the converter code does not officially come back up.
It might go away if its work your engine need to cycle my every 71 miles/is it work , my work out awsome
You can clear the codes yourself but I prefer to make changes like a tuneup or this lacquer thinner/acetone engine and exhaust system procedure and see if codes clear after a number of on-off cycles. That's the real proof if something works. Codes cleared by the computer and monitoring systems by themselves.
Thank you
Does it do anything bad to the engine
Jabier Merlo if you run it through as mentioned in the video (1 gallon thinner added to a half tank of gas) and don’t do it often then it shouldn’t be a problem. If you do it often it can cause problems to the fuel system since it contains acetone.
Do you got to put all 150 to 200 miles drive all at once? Or can it be withing couple days?
You just need to run it completely through. I put all at once since I drive a lot for work
@@PhillipsVision i herd the that you can put a blower fan in front of the engine and put it on 2500 rpm and run the the fule and mixture out that way, instead of driving it 150 miles
I add a gallon of acetone to half tank (approx 10gal) in my Toyota suvs, turned two lights off at some point using the half tank in each
Do you recommend this on a BMW X5 ?
I don’t see why not, as long as you don’t over use it. Is does contain acetone which can cause damage if used too often.
Is it safe to use on a modern hemi?
I personally have not used it in one, but I don’t see why not
Is it good to use just for carbon clean?
Should be fine, but don’t do too often. The acetone in the thinner can be harmful to the fuel system if done too much
I can confirm that acetone is a very good engine and catalytic concerter cleaner.
@@ElectronikHeart thanks for reply
If I fill tank how much time should I add
@@bangoutslim9879 I used 3% acetone.
Between 3 and 10% would be the sweet spot. It's the same ratio of acetone than using cataclean or b12 chemtool (they use acetone as their main active ingredient).
Be sure to use most of your fuel tank in one time the same day you put acetone in it.
Acetone is very volatile, so if you don't use it soon enough it will just evaporate and may ruin your fuel pump or seals or evap system.
In short, acetone and fuel, long trip 'till you got 1/4 to 1/8 of the tank, then refuel.
Do i need to turn off the code first before i put the thinner!! Or it doesnt matter! Thanks!
ELKRIS 21 it doesn’t matter, but I like to clear all codes whenever I fix anything just to get an accurate reading
@@PhillipsVision thanks! I recently put some cataclean like 2 weeks ago that didnt help! Can i still put the thinner?
It doesn't matter which you do first but, you've got to clear the CEL code/light in order to know if everything is back to normal. Depending on the vehicle, disconnecting the - battery terminal for 10min should clear the computer. I often disconnect them overnight if I'm not driving anywhere but that's not necessary.
it worked from me
Dammm it didn’t work for me...
Well
1) Gas tank was halfway full
2) added lacquer thinner (same as Andy’s video Description [Brown label])
2.5) upon adding lacquer thinner I drop about 5 percent of the 1Gallon on the floor because my funnel was not in place. Second I left about 5 of lacquer thinner in the canteen. Overall I didn’t pure 100 lacquer thinner probably 90 percent went in the half way tank.
3) drove my car right away on the highway 101 Ventura to the 118 highway
No luck went over 150 miles ( I calculated my trip using my trip button on the odometer)
4) I have filled my gas tank since then and the code is still on..
Waiting to see if it clears out in about 400 miles
A different driver on RUclips claimed that his codes cleared after 400 miles ( he didn’t drive fast on the highway or reached over 2000 rpm, he just drove regularly until the codes disappeared)
R5150i you need to add the full amount of thinner. You’ll need to burn the entire tank, then refill your gas tank. It could be that your cat is too far gone. This is not a guarantee for all failing cats
Thanks
The thinner will not clean a cat because it's already combusted by the time it travels through it. However, thinner cleans the crap out of the fuel system, injectors and cylinders which may be why it works for some people.
There is never a clean complete burn. that is why a cat works. so there will still unburn products in the exhaust.
If we had a completely clean burn, everyone's cars would be so efficient making power and using fuel. This dream simply doesn't exist
I'll try this. Itll clean the fuel injector in the process lol
Did it work
I think I'll try spraying carb cleaner in the cat
I was told by my mechanic that its dangerous using laquer thinner for cleaning my cat. I was advied not to do it.
Blk Popeye every mechanic has their own opinion of it. I personally have heard more say in favor of it than against it. I don’t see it as dangerous if you measure it properly.
He could be telling you that because he doesn't want to lose a job he will make alot of money off of.
8 months ago now is 12/30/20 I just tried and worke good thanks god my headache went away with $2000 ,thanks you ,just awsome
Dangerous to his wallet? you just didn't hear that part.
What about a back pressure check
Just did this yesterday & it didn’t work.
If the catalytic converter is too bad it will need to be replaced. Cleaning only works if it is dirty and not bad.
Debería aser en espańol
My 16 accent is on limp mode and only driving 5 mph due to clogged cats. You think I should
Try this out before I have to spend $3000 for two 🐈 🥲
You could, but if they are badly clogged you may want to remove them and try cleaning them before buying new ones
Would you still recommend this? I have a 2009 Subaru Forester. Thanks
Yes, but if the cat is too bad off you will need to replace it
@@PhillipsVision this is the part that some other videos don’t point out. Some people saying it doesn’t work are the same people with cats that are too worn out of even broken honey combs XD of course its not gonna fix those issues.
