Outstanding work you guys! You are historians and craftsmen in the making. People like you are helping to keep this important piece of history alive for future generations to gaze upon and enjoy. Your names will forever be etched in preserving this beautiful locomotive. 👍
Piston rings are rings on the outside of the piston that spreads apart against the cylinder wall. So even though we only scraped a hundred of a thousandth of a inch the ring will hug it anyway.
I’d love to be a volunteer but I’m from California, it’s nice seeing how hard you guys are working to keep restore this engine and it looks like all of the hard work is paying off. Hopefully I’ll be able to ride on a double header with 3751 and 2926 or see 2926 if it ever come to California once 2926 is ready for excursions!
So 2926 must be test ran on a line in Albuquerque and before that can happen we need to set up in the railyard and get the track that runs in between our site and the yard repaired.
The society will work with the state of New Mexico to run trips on NMDOT tracks from Albuquerque to Lamy, NM. Also, the society has been invited by the Grand Canyon Railway, but the society has to work out a deal with BNSF and Amtrak in order to get 2926 out there.
@@ricko3242 No problem. Before that can happen, they need financial support from the community to get their spur track connecting the mainline to level 2 standards to safely transfer 2926 from where it is now to the mainline. It would be greatly appreciated.
Amazingly, a lot of the original builder's construction drawings exist for locomotives and their equipment. Air compressors were so standardized that the FRA specs for testing them actually call them out by model. It's literally in the federal code. 49 CFR 230
As I watch...you're making me nervous in that isn't there some way to put new sleeves in each hole just to make sure . A PITA? You bet, but I'd sleep better at night.

*Even with automobile cylinders, HOW do you compensate for what was scraped out? Make piston slightly LARGER to hug newly honed out cylinder walls?*

better choice for an oil can might be something like an eagle 66 that can squirt oil at a distance more accurate.
Wow klesmer music
When are y'all gonna run her and where for that matter? Can y'all bring her to Temple Texas??

@@atsf2926 gotcha. Well, I'm excited to see her finally run
Nice progress, I think once the driver-side air compressor is all done the fireman-side air compressor should go next. if I may guess correctly.
These 2900's are monsters, its so great to see one fully restored. Is there any future plan/ opportunities to run this anywhere pulling an excursion?

@Chooch Thank you for the update!

Did someone noticed tf2 soundtrack in this video ?
My never-ending question here is that where do ya'll get your "spec's" from. (or is it "flying by the seat of your pants"), kind of thing?

It must be hard to work with all the worthless “volunteers” using up space. You know, the guy with the odd name.
