The pirates gave him the scars. there were 5 canon balls, 5 dots of his back. You can cleary see the explosion. Even with Tekkai activated, it shows that he was strong enough to survive 5 explosive canon balls

So in conclusion the soldier saying they are out men isn't really insubordination he just is telling his psycho commander wtf are we doing. If its insubordination, he should be imprisoned and court martialed later, not executed.

The "Keep going; RESOLUTELY!" line you noticed as an oft repeated phrase from Tom is/was originally "‼️ Do it with a *DON* ‼️" , which is something said when working on a project of some kind, and is a common phrase in Japan that would be similar to the word "Ganbatte!"(Good luck, do your best, etc.,) but more specifically geared toward trades work or skilled craftsmanship. The *DON* represents the sound of hitting a big drum; it makes a physical action into an exclamation point. I am surprised they bothered to change it at all, since it's an iconic and memorable affectation that makes fans immediately think of Tom.
"Do it with a DON" is such a lazy translation I'm glad it was changed. It physically hurts me when a "translation" requires knowledge of the original language to make sense. That said, "Do X with a BANG" would probably have been more more fun than "resolutely".
I hate translations like this, Naruto's "believe it" is the worst offender of it. They should have just ignored it in Naruto. The do it with a Bang is way better.

Don is onomatopoetic and when used by Tom and others you hear them say the word and the actual sound effect(a heavy drum hit) is used in the audio track.
This episode felt like all hope was about to be lost! That there were not much our heroes could do, but sit back and let the destruction unfold! Robins reaktion was perfect and sad, as her Childhood traumas were awakened by the events! It really shows the effects the horrors she have experienced, has on her! The highlight however was the fight between Luffy and Lucci, as it reaches another level of tension, incredible animation for its time and a chilling display of abilities! Luffy really has come far and you can tell he will never give up, even when things looked very bleak! This is the point where you wanna finish the rest of Enies Lobby in an instant!
Iron Body is strong, but it's not impervious. We've seen several of our heroes break through it. I believe that cannonballs would cause at least some amount of damage, even if superficial, and that this scene is where he got the scars. However, keep in mind that this backstory is ANIME-ONLY, meaning it's not canon.

That's what this arc is about: the extermination of Ohara, the navy shooting at its own ships and soldiers - they were and are "necessary sacrifices to protect the world and peace". Of course, there a lot more about political control, controlling the masses, maintaning the status quo, etc., but this is the meaning of "dark justice".

Yes, Lucci's scar was caused by the cannons in that incident; Iron Body isn't invincible after all. As a general rule Lucci just really likes fighting and killing, especially strong opponents, and really hates people who don't have their own strength or who expect others to carry them. So apart from hating Spandam on principal, the fact that he was proud of beating up Robin while she was helpless when he'd never even dare try if she was loose is actually disgusting to Lucci. Evil isn't necessarily a wrong term, but he has a code of sorts that is sometimes at odds with what he's ordered to do. That said, Kaku had a similar upbringing and is clearly happier with less murder, so it isn't all on the WG that he's this way.

As a general rule Lucci just really likes fighting and killing, especially strong opponents, and really hates people who don't have their own strength or who expect others to carry them. So apart from hating Spandam on principal, the fact that he was proud of beating up Robin while she was helpless when he'd never even dare try if she was loose is actually disgusting to Lucci. Evil isn't necessarily a wrong term, but he has a code of sorts that is sometimes at odds with what he's ordered to do. That said, Kaku had a similar upbringing and is clearly happier with less murder, so it isn't all on the WG that he's this way.
To this day. Luffy Vs. Lucci is still my favorite fight in the series.
