Honestly me measuring/tracking my food last year was such a hassle and it was worse when I couldn’t achieve the goals I wanted even though I tracked everything. I believe as long as your consistent in your meals and eat whole foods , train regularly, and rest you’ll make great progress
All your videos are really informative. You are different (on a good way) to explain in detail, it’s easy to understand what you said. I’m sure you helped tons of people, continue to share your knowledge.
Hey brother, thanks for saying hi yesterday in Juji's live stream, That was much appreciated. I've been a bit depressed lately and both you & Juji giving me a shoutout lifted my spirits a lot, again thank you !!!
Counting calories and weighing food honestly made me eat more and binge. I started looking at food as numbers and it just made me wanna eat even when I wasn’t hungry “to get more numbers” I guess I’m not sure what the subconscious thought process was behind that. I’d also binge and eat more later in the day especially if I had gone over my goal even by a bit. After so long of counting calories and weighing everything and yo-yoing, I thought back to when I lost a lot of weight and went from being overweight to a good weight. I realized that at that time I didn’t really know much about calorie counting and I just eliminated junk food from my diet. Once I started counting I thought that if I stopped counting I would start eating way more than I thought, but really now I only eat when I’m hungry, I enjoy food more and can consistently stay in a deficit just by using eyeball/hand methods.
(Possible “receipt” for Mr. Angeletti) I think bulking really helps heal your relationship with food, I was once one of those overdieted 128 lbs 5’9” guys who was scared of any surplus and exactly like who he talks about that was measuring out grains of everything on the scale. Still use the scale for stuff that’s hard to eyeball and to portion certain things out but mostly I realized any “excess” calories that I might’ve not tracked from the scale can only aid in building muscle in a surplus and body fat actually helps your physique when your lifting in terms of getting bigger cause it’s more likely to be subcutaneous in areas that you use (your muscles) which just makes it look bigger. (Previous statement is kind of bro-science fee free to fact check me)
Nice video! For me, I can easily bulk by eyeballing my food (I'm a good few years into lifting at this stage so I know roughly what's what) but when I'm cutting I like to get obsessive. Having cut sub 10% once in my life, I never want to do it again. Ever. So the only purpose of my cuts is to get my bf % back to where bulking makes sense again. That being said, I prefer short, hard cuts. We're talking 25lbs down in 6 to 8 weeks. I like to go uber monk mode and track absolutely everything to the gram for that time. For me, performance isn't an issue during these style of cuts.
This video is more for the weight lifting people, and not the dieting people. I’ve been yo-yo dieting and had hundreds of failed diet plans in the last 18 years. All because of accidentally over eating and not seeing results. Ever since I started counting my calories, weighting and measuring my food. I’ve been the most successful at my diet ever. Almost reaching roughly 17% body fat, from my usual 25%-30% body fat. Its a must to be in a caloric deficit in order to lose weight, if you are not planning on exercising every day and often. Eating at maintenance or a 200 calorie surplus is fine too for weight loss if you are pushing your body. I’m down almost 40lbs, and feel great. If I didn’t weight my food, and get exactly what I need to reach my daily calorie limit, I would never lose weight, I’d just be running to the stove getting seconds, thirds of dinner and a snack. Eating Whole Foods and measuring with your hand is absolutely perfect for lifters, and it’ll eventually work, but not for the people who can’t stop eating. counting calories and telling yourself “you can’t go over!” Is the way to go.
Recreational lift that tracks down to the gram here, was never a hassle and I never had problems knowing my measurements are technically inaccurate to within X % as long as the bodyweight scale is trending in the right direction. I actually prefer it this way, different strokes for different folks
@@REVIVALFitness Try to; even with condiments like sugar into espresso, ketchup onto eggs, soy sauce into whatever and such; only thing I don't track is things like gum and the occasional bit of half and half into drip coffee. I do make rough guestimates when I go to restaurants or drink beer that's not listed online so my tracking isn't 100% accurate, think you're mostly spot on on that, but I lost 20ish lbs since the start of the year so my way's working ok for me for the most part. Best of luck on your contest man.

I don't own scales or anything like that. I'm not 6 pack shredded but I've been consistent in losing body fat. Ive stayed 91 kg for like 2 months but my appearance has been getting more slim. I just use the old school way of controlling portions. Using the fist method. If the portion is bigger than your fist then it's too much. Fist size in protein on the plate. 1.5 fists in veggies. And .5 of a fist in carbs. For me personally this works and it's more simple than using scales. And after a meal I'll down a whey isolate shake. To meet protein needs. Along with 1 5 g scoop of creatine monohydrate which you can take when ever. In the morning, or right after dinner when getting home from a work out.. It's nice to see him mention the hand method.
My cutting plan is pretty simple nowadays: no flour,no sweets,no fried food. I used to do iifym when I first started cutting for summer years ago,its not for me
I've been using the hand-meat method since I was about 14... Haven't stopped ever since. I also portion my food with my palm, but that's a separate thing.

Honestly the best thing I did to get right with eating was getting rid of all processed foods. Since I started eating as whole of foods as I could, my hunger just kinda balanced itself and the excess weight kinda just fell off. I don’t get anxiety all the time that feels like a painful amount of hunger. I just naturally start feeling hungry around eating time and then I feel satiated with a reasonable amount of food. In other countries it is more customary to use weight measurement when cooking, that's why people here (e.g. I live in Spain) don't usually consider weighing food as obsesive, it's just how we cook with recipes
Same here, nutrition values per 100g and recipes to follow, it's hard to imagine to go without. Like I eyeball a lot of stuff but generally because I already know what it more or less looks like. I don't fully believe in tracking either though, like today I spend a 11h shift on my feet, I got no idea how much I burned, I know I underate since 1200kcal, but too tired to be hungry so just leaving it. (Not bulking atm, I just can't in summer.)
Search ultra processed food then put a wealthy country name. Spain it's about 20%, Australia about 40%, USA about 55%. So in Australia it's more important for the average person to know how many seconds in the microwave, the package is already pre weighed in the factory. Ultra processed means outright junk food and as mentioned some of those things have ultraprocessed protein powder in them.
@@annoyedaussie3942 I think it's the ever increasing mentality of wanting things quick and easy, not to mention the addictive qualities of junk food. Although the mediterranean diet is not perfect (e.g. we put way too much oil on things for no reason), it's pretty healthy in my opinion, and it's sad seeing more and more processed food everywhere as time goes on.
Nobody intelligent recommends that of course, but a big sect of the modern flexible dieting crowd eat tons of processed junk in nearly every meal and justify it as healthy.
I never measured my food. In my 20's I simply ate 3000-4000 a day and trained 5-6 days a week. I was natty and got pretty big and was still fairly ripped. People always accused me of being on PEDs.
I weight out some foods, especially the more calorically dense ones anyway, but I find tracking everything you eat extremely taxing on the psyche. If I need to gain weight, I'll eat a little more and slowly gain. If I want to maintain, I eat around 2200-2500 calories approx and I stay stable. While cutting I measure out more food but I still dont track everything. I enjoy this method because it helps me reach my goals and not get mentally exausted.
I've never weighed food but I could definitely see myself getting mentally burned out by it. This also ties into eating the same things because the variables are far less.
I've been bulking and weighing foods for months now. I did it casually not too obsessive or precise and I gained 11lbs in 3 months. Still lean tho. I'm probably 15% bf (no abs but flat stomach and jawline etc.)
I don’t count calories but still weigh food. Imo not only it makes sure I’m eating ENOUGH, but also helps save money to properly portion things out across multiple days. (Because good meat is expensive)
What’s your honest opinion on Intermittent fasting to counteract hunger cravings? I’ve been practicing it for many years, it works very effectively for majority of people but for some it’s not quite as convenient
Well, TECHNICALLY, it IS calories in calories out for simply FAT loss. It's just that FAT loss isn't the ONLY aspect of good health. Yeah... You COULD, TECHNICALLY loose weight only eating donuts or hell, even drinking straight oil, but obviously that would kill you in no time, because calories isn't the ONLY thing we need from food to survive. We ALSO need macro and micro nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Our bodies aren't machines that run on PURE energy. We need a lot of things to regulate the basic bodily functions. Not just calories.
Agreed! :) Personally it somewhat boggles my mind that people still don't understand CICO and think it's flawed lol. Always the same refutals lol about genetics, hormones, TEF, food-quality etc etc, not understanding All these things, and more, already accounted for in the CICO equation(which isn't possible to calculate exactly yourself, but better trying than ignore obviously). What they have an issue with, isn't CICO but what they believe CICO is, plus the ignorant people giving CICO a bad name e.g not understanding calories out etc. Anyway, just wanted say happy to see your comment here, and BTW not a diss to revival(sorry not know hvis name yet lol) and Thanks to him for the video, appreciated and many good points for sure.
When I eat now I follow guidelines. 1. The main part of meal is protein 2. Serving of fruit 3. Healthy fat or fiber. Once those 3 are taken care of I will eat absolute crap like donuts and cookies. I've been experimenting more and more with "what can I get away with" and I've been surprised at the results. Losing fat has been extremely simple this cut
@@REVIVALFitness haha I do my best. I'm not super high level because my full time work is in machine learning and I'm not trying to be a pro. I just really enjoy combat sports and I love to compete when and where I can. Definitely nothing super impressive
Man even during competition prep I don't bother weighing food. I just know what kind of foods work for me and how my body responds to those foods. Every calculation is an estimate anyways, so I just eyeball it and do a morning physique check; toss in the scale each morning during competition prep.
There’s no way to have the precision people think they have. I hada high sodium meal last night and my veins filled out like crazy without a pump. I guess the old burger/fries before the show meme is real.
@@REVIVALFitness Absolutely man. Even the guys who have coaches doing all these "precise" calculations for them, measuring the food for them, etc...how often do they end up looking soft or flat on stage? That's why I believe it's more important to gain an extreme understanding of your body and how it responds to foods/water/electrolytes; rather than relying on someone else or calculations. And yes, figuring out that magic pre-stage meal is a real thing haha.
Couldn’t eating the same things every single day lead to intolerance? That’s what I usually do but at some point eating the same meals (mostly it happens with dairy and eggs for me) leads me to nausea so I’m forced to switch them for something else, at least for a time.
Intolerance is a matter of the body not handling given foods well. You can eat the same stuff every day for the rest of your life, and if you tolerate them well, there won’t be issues. Conversely, you can have a glass of milk once per week and if you’re lactose intolerant, issues.
Dude you look absolutely diced. Greg Doucette should take your recent pictures and say "See? He's shredded as hell and he still got big! That's because he maingained!!!"
Yo revival fitness im going to do high school wrestling as a freshman what type training should focus on ? I been lifting weights for lot time now im getting big i add 10 pounds im 190 and 6 foot and 15
Measuring with cups and tablespoons is just a different form of weighing…. Not saying your wrong to not weigh stuff I only use the scale during a cut so 2/12 months of the year but it does help and takes barely any time
I said I don’t totally paint him as a villain. I do think he’s gotten a pass to some extent but I don’t believe he has a history of any misleading claims when promoting products.
@@REVIVALFitness weighing some meat and grains while prepping meals just to be sure you're eating enough isn't difficult at all and can help one understand how much they really should eat to hit that amount of calories
What is your opinion on mass gainers? I'm not a skinny dude, not even close (I'm around 16% bf with slightly undeveloped mass), but I struggle to eat it's literally killing my mood recently 🤣 and I wanted to give it a try. It's some 1250 calorie per serving (I need 3300 a day) which means I'll drink the shake then I'll have 2-3 meals. (Better than having 5 like I have right know)
If I eat two 1/2 measuring cups of cooked rice per meal, how many calories is that roughly? I don’t have a scale anyways so I’m not sure how many grams of rice that is.
@@REVIVALFitness bag says every 1/4 cups is 160 cal so every 1/2 cup of rice is 320 cal but gym bros be telling me not to refer to bag label for rice since rice absorbs water after being cooked (unlike meats which lose water after being cook)
@@Roflmao30000 I think it becomes splitting hairs at that point. Unless I'm mistaken the bag measurements are intended to be taken as the food before it is cooked in any way.
This is overcomplicating a very simple issue. Just eat quality animal-sourced food. If you are gaining too much fat, eat a bit less. If you are not gaining muscle, eat a bit more. Simple.
A lot of people need estimates of how much they’re eating to make those adjustments. Once you establish a consistent way of eating, then it’s much easier to add or reduce a bit.
I don't get what's your problem with tasty food. Yes, sometimes (last weeks of extreme cut, dirty bulk, etc) it can be problematic, but fitness should be a lifestyle. An enjoyable one. If not, what's the point? 99,9% of people who want just look good will never compete. Eating the same boring food every day makes no sense unless you're a pro or make money with your look.
@@REVIVALFitness I'm a (former) powerlifter and a food blogger, my (and probably many other normie who enjoy their social/family life) expectations of "tasty" are different. For many people food is not just fuel (it WAS just a fuel for me when I was younger and single). It's time with family, friends and also a sensoric pleasure. There is probably a balance somwhere between gourmet and eating boring food every day. I mean, chicken with condiments, veggies and rice (just an example) is probably OK, but it's not how I imagine my diet for the rest of my life. And with a little effort and planning, prep time is not an issue. Of course your millage may vary, everyone's is different.
@@REVIVALFitness how long should the first bulk be if I’ve never worked out before? Im going to be a freshman in college next year so im tryna bulk and then cut for college
My appetite is definitely more controllable on low carb. Carnivore angers a lot of people. I’d like to see how/if I would gain fat if I ate as much beef, chicken, and eggs as I wanted to daily.
I think the "you have to get used to your food being boring" thing is pretty inaccurate. You don't have to be doing weird anabolic recipes to make interesting delicious food that's low calorie. It can take more time but imo it's usually worth it to get better at cooking
That's true. I tend to use 'boring' as an encompassing term, maybe it'd be better to say 'basic.' I enjoy regular chickne, eggs, beef, oats, broccoli, milk very much.
@@REVIVALFitness fair enough! I found making my own sauces or even just finding a spice blend I really like to be the easiest way to make even pretty basic stuff really delicious, I never understand why so many lifters don't even season their food
eating the same thing everyday is a cheatcode bruh, i measure my food for the first week i eat it but after that i never measure because i know exactly how much is how much calories so i know what to make everyday lmao, yall need to understand FOOD IS FUEL NOT DOPAMINE. look at it like you fuelin up on premium gas instead of regular gas
It’s hard for people to accept this. It’s also why the whole “anabolic food” and low calorie craze is so rampant, people still can’t kick their sugar addictions. I’m not immune either but I think I’ve found a much more reasonable way.
@@REVIVALFitness yeah it's really just how society created it so we mindlessly spend money to put in their pocket 😭 you not gonna understand if you don't want to but ignorance is bliss
I do agree that eating the same stuff all the time does make things easier though but I like to weigh things just because I worry about making mistakes
I've gotten pretty okay to decent at eye scanning my portions. But to really account for the margin of error, 10k steps a day helps a ton. Been rucking part of the 10k on off days.

Although the mediterranean diet is not perfect (e.g. we put way too much oil on things for no reason), it's pretty healthy in my opinion, and it's sad seeing more and more processed food everywhere as time goes on.

I have a huge problem measuring the amount of meat/chicken and pasta without weighing. With rice, beans, and such it's pretty easy.
The thickness is the problem. I eat a lot of Argentinian steak, and it's thick as fuck.
Most flexible dieting people preach mainly whole foods exactly like you. Very very few people are saying get all your calories from doughnuts
Nobody intelligent recommends that of course, but a big sect of the modern flexible dieting crowd eat tons of processed junk in nearly every meal and justify it as healthy.
Good stuff
Looking lean brother! 👏💪
Thank you 🔪
I never measured my food. In my 20's I simply ate 3000-4000 a day and trained 5-6 days a week. I was natty and got pretty big and was still fairly ripped. People always accused me of being on PEDs.
Did you ever compete?
@@REVIVALFitness Almost, but I never thought I was big enough. Most guys who in local shows were on PEDs.
@@JP5466 We'll see what happens but Idk if bodybuilding is something I want to do long term. It's endless craziness.
Eyeball work we don’t need no scale
I like weighing food but I think I’m an exception. I just find it fun and as a stats guy I like to know I’m being quasi-accurate
People that measure gram per gram 365 days ☠️💯
They often have very underwhelming numbers/physique which is the saddest part
I've been bulking and weighing foods for months now. I did it casually not too obsessive or precise and I gained 11lbs in 3 months. Still lean tho. I'm probably 15% bf (no abs but flat stomach and jawline etc.)
I don’t count calories but still weigh food. Imo not only it makes sure I’m eating ENOUGH, but also helps save money to properly portion things out across multiple days. (Because good meat is expensive)
No doubt about that. Worth it though I'd say.

I do MMA/combat sports comps. You don't need to weigh food. I also don't cut too much weight though, so make of that what you will
You out here beating people’s asses?
@@therippedemon You see it all the time. Week out on Instagram: "Holy f***." Show day: soft, looks like they gained 5% body fat somehow.
It can if you have a predisposition
Dude you look absolutely diced. Greg Doucette should take your recent pictures and say "See? He's shredded as hell and he still got big! That's because he maingained!!!"

Do what your coach tells you. I’d assume basic strength programming then wrestling specific practice.
Measuring with cups and tablespoons is just a different form of weighing….
Not saying your wrong to not weigh stuff I only use the scale during a cut so 2/12 months of the year but it does help and takes barely any time
I get your point. It all ends up in containers anyway if you're meal prepping.

@@REVIVALFitness fair call. I added in "Hall" 😁.
Greg’s audience has a small pass
Well I think that weighing food is simpler than what you've described
Weighing everything?
@@REVIVALFitness weighing some meat and grains while prepping meals just to be sure you're eating enough isn't difficult at all and can help one understand how much they really should eat to hit that amount of calories
@@meme-qg9pk It's doable for sure, it's still not an exact science though like many people seem to construe it as.

(Better than having 5 like I have right know)
People weigh they’re food? I just inhale a half a chicken breast with either rice or potato.
Classic. I like the simplicity of a basic plate.
we need them recipes bro
Cooking videos coming soon
You have to measure the single grain of rice

Have you improve after quitting weed?
Improve in what way?
Honestly, just buy a digital food scale. It's actually easier than trying to follow all these tips.
Probably. But weighing food can be a big eating disorder trigger in people.
What is your weight currently? You look freaking lean but at what point you’re going to maintain or bulk
Just over 170. I have my show in 2 weeks.
No need to mealprep, no need to weigh food when you just eat from my friggen cookbook and take turk.. but ok
If I eat two 1/2 measuring cups of cooked rice per meal, how many calories is that roughly? I don’t have a scale anyways so I’m not sure how many grams of rice that is.
The bag should have a serving size (often in cups) listed, I would refer to that. Will depend on the exact rice.
As you have been bulking I'm curious how much flexibility you have lost.
Brother I’ve been cutting for 5 months
But don't you think you would need to track anything bec you're like 2 weeks out?
I haven’t measured anything for this entire prep. Just slowing tapering down food and doing more cardio etc.
This is overcomplicating a very simple issue. Just eat quality animal-sourced food. If you are gaining too much fat, eat a bit less. If you are not gaining muscle, eat a bit more. Simple.
A lot of people need estimates of how much they’re eating to make those adjustments. Once you establish a consistent way of eating, then it’s much easier to add or reduce a bit.
is 2 pounds of splenda per day enough??

I don't get what's your problem with tasty food. Yes, sometimes (last weeks of extreme cut, dirty bulk, etc) it can be problematic, but fitness should be a lifestyle. An enjoyable one. If not, what's the point? 99,9% of people who want just look good will never compete. Eating the same boring food every day makes no sense unless you're a pro or make money with your look.
Boring doesn’t mean not tasty. Basic meat, grains, veggies etc are tasty if you’re remotely competent in the kitchen.
How long have you been bulking?
I bulked for 1.5 years from Sep 2020 to March 2022. Cutting since then.

Or you could just eat a ruminant only carnivore diet, and you'll never have to track anything just eat as much as you can everyday.
My appetite is definitely more controllable on low carb. Carnivore angers a lot of people. I’d like to see how/if I would gain fat if I ate as much beef, chicken, and eggs as I wanted to daily.

No worries, king
This sounds more complicated than weighting stuff
Maybe if you’re new to it. Over the long term I’d say it’s easier. The food ends up in containers either way.
I do agree that eating the same stuff all the time does make things easier though but I like to weigh things just because I worry about making mistakes
@@djredhareaus38 One of my points is that such mistakes are inherent to the process due to label inaccuracies. Utter precision just isn't feasible.
